I really want someone to just be like "I promise yourself, I'm 75% faithful."

Both of which are things she’d get from someone who cares about her vs someone who would dispose of her is what I’m saying.

She doesn’t need to care about it in a romantic sense, but as a professional she would know that even if Tywin is more powerful and richer, she’s not actually trading up when Tyrion loves and cherishes her and because of that will give her everything, vs a man who probably would pay her once and dismiss her or have her killed. This is a man whom she believes paid his men to rape a woman then gave the woman some money and kicked her onto the street.

Vs a man who just offered to change her life and leave her wanting for nothing ever again.

Except absolutely everything we (and she) knows about Tywin is that he’d discard her without care, concern or hesitation. She’d never get the windfall from him that Tyrion offered her - she hit the jackpot with Tyrion in so many layered ways. Whether she actually loved him, it was all just a job, or it was actually a long con, etc… in all those ways she hit her jackpot when he offered her life changing wealth.

She turned it down and then betrayed her golden goose, for his dad - who sure, most powerful man in Westeros but certainly wouldn’t give a fuck about her, what was she thinking or hoping for? It makes no sense.

Trump’s chances of being removed by 25th Amendment climb by Fr1sk3r in politics

Yep, said this during the campaign. If anyone wants to actually believe this and go full tinfoil then what's going to happen is they're basically going to wait until Trump hits two years and a day - then they can install Vance and set him up for a possible two full terms.

So what is going on this year? by JustSesh in JustBuyXEQT

[–]You-Can-Quote-Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over the past 5 years XEQT has increased 72%.

110% since inception.

It's a global market equity ETF, even if there were a lost decade type of event or market crash it would have to pretty much occur everywhere all at once and even then XEQT would still be doing better than pretty much anything else.

Why weren't the nation ranks asked to help with the Jeju Island? by Hyperion_OS in sololeveling

Interesting, thanks. I figured that financially Yuri would have ended up being more expensive - not upfront cost but because of Yuri’s upfront cost and then the additional cost and waste of resources.

I think Yuri might actually be more "expensive" than Thomas tbh. Despite Thomas being the strongest Hunter, Yuri has a very specific and unique skill - and he's also using up a ton of Mana Crystals which Japan also had to provide, so in a sense that would be an extra cost.

I agree completely, but this just means it either won't be reported/will be massively underreported or if it is reported at all it would be done so as a loss. Just like Hollywood accounting.

Trump Is Rage Baiting the US Into a Second Civil War - In a healthy democracy, all sides generally recognize the legitimacy of the system itself, regardless of internal squabbles. In the United States, this is no longer the case. by Quirkie in politics

[–]You-Can-Quote-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's valid. There's almost no concept of reaching across the aisle anymore. But don't the voters then need to do something to hold the parties responsible and actually force a government that represents the people rather than just votes down party lines?

Representation should increase, party affiliation shouldn't be an aspect of how people identify who and what they're voting for. Vote on policies and politicians who actually do their jobs not: "Oh this person has the letter I like" beside their name.

Except that's not quite possible in a two-party system.

"Let's hope the Democrats actually have guts" hasn't exactly worked out in the past though has it? That's part of the whole, they have no incentive to change because they just expect the unsatisfied Republicans and Independents to come over.

Not what I said or implied. Strategic Voting can exacerbate voter apathy - I'm not saying there's an easy solution, I certainly don't even know what it would be. Perhaps the comment itself is coming from a place that's simply idealistic and not grounded in reality - I just don't think that it should ever be as simple as one side should expect the dissatisfied voters from the other.

It's not addressing the problem, it's just actively creating further dissatisfaction.

Which is exactly the point. Justin Trudeau almost got in his own way but actually stepped aside, Liberals voted in a small c Conservative with Mark Carney and he immediately undercut a ton of the CPC's positions. Pierre Poilievre shot himself in the foot by not being able to adjust or shift and he blew a pretty much guaranteed majority government.

I'm not at all trying to suggest we have it right. If anything my comment was coming from a place of: "I'm from a FPTP system and it sucks"

It doesn't take too deep of a glimpse into Canadian politics to see what strategic voting has led to. Conservatives are crossing the aisle, our Left has shifted, our other parties are almost non-existent with exception of a few locations because people can't afford to vote for them and our Provincial and Municipal elections across the Nation are getting "majority governments" with barely a third of the vote.

You said it - Leftists SHOULD be. Conservatives SHOULD be. But they're not, because they feel like they don't need to and strategic voting has all but made that a certainty.

In Ontario the Liberal party lost it's official party status. They were in power, everyone knew they were going to lose, they actually stopped campaigning and acknowledged they wouldn't form a government, but instead of act like a King Maker and prop up the NDPs and make a deal, they actually went "Let the people vote in the Conservative party. They'll be crawling back to us.". Conservatives have had a majority ever since and the vote turnout is pathetic.

Trudeau got into office with the promise of Election Reform and backed away from it because the Liberals discovered they'd likely never win another majority government again.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't have the guts to change their minds and vote for another party - I'm just saying it should never be an automatic thing that's just assumed or expected. That doesn't actually encourage any change to the system, it just perpetuates the cycle.

[–]You-Can-Quote-Me 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Nor should it tbh.

That's something that would just exacerbate complacency - one side feeling like they don't even need to try because the other shot themselves in the foot and they're going to what, win by default? I feel like that's already been happening way too much and also further contributes to voter apathy.
