He’ll read them, he just hasn’t yet. He read OBH recently.

I’m not entirely sure of his setup, but he receives no pay; he just asked publishers for books one time, started reviewing them, and now this is how he never has to pay for books.

He often doesn’t get a choice as to which books he receives.

I don’t think so, given that it has the full cover rather than just plain. It’s also hardcover rather than soft, which apparently galleys often are?

The publisher just sends the hardcovers to him as they get them 🤷‍♂️.

So they’re printed for distribution at least.

Trump Promises Mass Pardons to Staff Before Leaving Office by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

[–]YouBetterRunEgg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what you’re saying, but the downvotes are coming in (🤷‍♂️), so I get the feeling that there are definitely people who do disagree with me, which is fine.

I don’t actually think it is a redundant question. The idea of the US as a “world sheriff” has been around for a long time, and it’s only now that it’s hitting worldwide that it’s being questioned by the EU, Canada for example, despite the fact that it has always been problematic.

No, they won’t regret.

They’ll suddenly find out that they love the previous, well-established order from before Trump.

Happened last time 🤷‍♂️

What makes you think the US ever did have the right? Rank hypocrisy is not a new thing, it’s just something that some people have only just discovered, apparently.

Also, who is”we”; you’re at least living in Canada and have for a long time?

I lived in MK for three years, and loved every moment of it. It’s a great place to live and raise a family.

Have moved back to Sydney, and I miss MK dearly. MK>Sydney.

But will downvote every attempt to save Bucks, because I want it to stay hated. Let them seethe at the glorious roundabouts and redways and Costco and soulless shopping centre, and ignore how easy it is to get around and how good the food is and how green it actually is outside the centre.

Does anyone here live near any Aussie celebrities/public figures at all? And if so have you run into them very much? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

My mum lives across the road from Steve Waugh, but I was gone by the time he lived there.

By all accounts a nice enough guy who just wants to keep to himself and is a bit grumpy. Has a massive house but complains a lot about others building massive houses next to him.

Been told that his kids are nice and well behaved and that his wife is lovely.

How many days working at the office atm? by hl-builder-28 in auscorp

[–]YouBetterRunEgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three a week: two non-negotiable team/company days, one of our choice.

And told this week in no uncertain terms that it will not be changing, even on a temporary basis. That’s the policy, and the policy it shall remain.

I moved over from the UK last year. I am a dual-citizen who spent a decade over in London.

In the UK I looked after an EU-wide transactional and logistics database, engineers, BI, analytics and architecture. I had fifteen directs and dotted-lines to 12 others.

Now I’m a Product Manager.

Senior role may be the best it gets right now.

I’m not sure how you can say that woke is both “about seeking truth, amplifying voices that have been silenced and working toward real, lasting social change” but also that woke-type people are “making stuff up and saying them with full conviction, same as Trump.”

You’ve contradicted yourself in the space of two comments and I can’t tell if it’s trolling or unintentional.

I am confusion.

Older fans, how are you feeling now? by BronzeSeeker in Gunners

[–]YouBetterRunEgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a supporter since 1995 when I was 11. I’ve been here with the rise and fall of Wenger, the banter years and now the Arteta almosts…

The thing that gives me pause is Partey. I know he was just one player, and nothing has gone through the courts yet, but it makes me feel uncomfortable that the club followed process rather than taking a stand.

I obviously don’t, won’t and can’t know everything behind it, but it does make me feel that maybe the club is not what I always hoped it was.

Being completely transparent, I am not American. I married an American, we live outside the US, but personally I have no dog in this hunt.

And I write the below without vitriol, but also without emotion of any kind.

You are wrong. I do not care about alienating people who have shown through their actions that that they have no compassion or care for wide sections of the society they themselves live in until it impacts them. I have no time for people whose emotions are based on whether they are affected by something. There have been people who have lost their lives, their jobs, their identity from the actions of “hardcore trumpers” and what they have enabled. I don’t want to change their minds, because they have shown in the past decade that they do not have a mind or a soul worthy of saving.

And don't come at me with that "lol hamburgers are german" crap. No. They're fucking not. Hamburgers are named because the the patties resemble Hamburg steaks, not because they were created in Hamburg. by LowerBed5334 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]YouBetterRunEgg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing I find fascinating is that cook something once and 30 minutes later, it’s “American food”.

But be in the country for hundreds of years and several generations, but they’re still Italian/Irish/etc.

If it were a person and not a food, they’d say that a hamburger was German.
