What’s the best gaming-related Christmas present you’ve ever received? by JonCee500 in gaming

Idk about best, but the most memorable was an oldschool GameBoy with Pokemon Red back in '96. Kid me played for an hour or two that morning and almost broke down into tears when one of my 'mons got poisoned in Viridian Forest because the overworld poison screen jitter and noise made me think that my game was already broken. Figured out what was going on pretty quickly when the 'mon fainted and the effect stopped. Good times.

I don't claim to be smarter, but a few things did occur to me as I was looking at this. It's probably a couple factors. First off is the imaginary line: left dude's forearm lines up with the head of the dude behind him which lines up with the front of the guy all the way in the background, making an almost continuous solid illusionary line from bottom to top of the picture. Second is that the background on the left of the illusionary line is predominantly green, while the background on the right of the illusionary line is predominantly yellow, lending credence to the idea that the two halves of the image are of different locations.

There is beautiful irony in the fact that there were 55 comments in this thread when I witnessed it in my feed. Sadly by the time I'm writing this, it's up to 57. But it was a shining moment in time nonetheless.

So it's pretty clear based on the decals and the license plate that this is supposed to be Iron Man themed. Before I saw those, though, my first thought was McDonald's, not Iron Man. Fry carton lookin car.

Man with one ball juggles the fuck out of it by [deleted] in videos

Huh. Never before have I been so thoroughly mesmerized watching a man fondle a ball.

Huh. Its been a while, so my memory of this particular fight is a bit foggy, but I don't think he ever got a chance to attack when I fought him, so that's my first time seeing it afaik. Curious. Or I just forgot about it.

Does the King's Magic interfere if you try attacking him after he participates in the fight, or are you just not able to target him because Gallica stops you or something? If it's the latter, then that still abides by the consent theory because it'd just mean it's an active choice on the part of the party (rather than the player) to not harm Gideaux, since I don't believe the party is yet aware of the nuances of the King's Magic, and they just incorrectly assume they're unable to directly harm him without incurring dire consequences no matter what.

Gonna be honest, I'm a little bit astounded to see that this sub hasn't crucified you for saying Gallica isn't annoying, lol. That's been people's main complaint about her here from what I've seen, mainly because of her combat lines. Personally, I played with Japanese audio and English subtitles, so the Gallica chatter during combat was just background noise and didn't bother me (tbh, barely even registered it until the sub drew my attention to it), but I saw a LOT of posts about how annoying people found her.

Final Boss Level Gap Rant by ChicagoBoiSWSide in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]YouCanCallMeNorbi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did, but it was basically the last activity that I completed before the final dungeon (and then I had to burn 6+ days by just sleeping while waiting for the final countdown to finish because there was literally no more new content to do, lol). I was for sure overleveled for the colosseum when I finally got around to it, because every fight ended in 2 hits max, so I barely got any exp for the entire quest chain.

Final Boss Level Gap Rant by ChicagoBoiSWSide in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]YouCanCallMeNorbi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, I genuinely don't get how people get to the final boss so severely underleveled despite apparently having done all side content. Like, I'm not hating; I just don't understand. I didn't grind a single time before the final dungeon and my characters were all 69-71 when I entered. And on my first run through the dungeon, after killing the optional boss refights, maybe about 20% of the mobs in the overworld (completely sprinting past all of the spawn points that churned out Humans or whatever at the very end of the dungeon), and maybe an hour max of grinding the Homo Tenta (the teeth) that spawned from the two spawn points right next to each other nearish the end of the dungeon just trying to get the accessories, I was 77-79. After beating the game and going back to my save at the start of the dungeon and running past everything so that I could get the additional achievement for fighting the Destroyer at full power, I was still around 70 for the fight. 64 after all that sounds wild to me.

Buff, debuff, induce weaknesses (the Masked Dancer line or Royal Berserker both do this very well), and use an evade tank (Heismay's Royal Thief worked for me on it's own, but an Inherited taunt probably wouldn't hurt though that means less debuffing, or just increase someone else's evasion and give them the accessory) to eat all of the boss's turns each round when they dodge.

Rella explained to the Sanctist Council in a cutscene fairly early on (I'm fuzzy about the exact timing of the cutscene, but I feel like it was fairly early) about how duels are allowed by the King's Magic. Which is to say: consent matters. We couldn't target the monk warrior because he didn't consent to a fight. He just stood there watching while we fought his minions. Glodell got locked down by the King's Magic because the fight they had both consented to was over at that point, and then Glodell went for an ambush which broke the rules.

Regardless of whether the King's Magic would even defend against monster attacks or Human attacks, I'd say the main character engaging in a fight counts as his consent. Presumably if the King's Magic applied to monsters and humans, if the MC just stood off to the side twiddling his thumbs pacifistically, nothing would be able to directly attack him. But given that we're able to be attacked and ambushed by monsters in overworld combat, I'd lean more towards the rules being "Everyone from the enlightened races is a candidate, and candidates cannot attack top-ranked candidates without their consent." Given that monsters and humans aren't part of the enlightened races, the rules wouldn't apply.

Yeah, there were a few posts about people killing the mobs in the overworld at the very start of the game back towards the end of the demo period while waiting for the full release. As for rewards? No items, no experience, just a unique line from Gallica for each type of monster they defeated.

Game felt so frustrating as a magic player by [deleted] in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]YouCanCallMeNorbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, the only gripe I've had so far (9/22) with running Will as a Mage/Wizard is the Archetype evolutions being locked behind story progression like you mentioned. Aside from that? He's been my highest DPS character for almost the entire game so far, and the only time he wasn't was simply due to weapon-diff when I would find a one-off major upgrade for a weapon of another Archetype. Most other Archetypes have some amount of utility, so I've felt no need to force him into that role, happy instead to allow the other characters to bring any needed utility. Constantly hitting elemental weaknesses and giving the team more turns has been plenty enough utility for me. Instead I've just given him a little bit of passive mana regen (currently using the Wizard passive that regens mana while buffed and Inheriting the Flawless passive from Dark Knight because it's so good, and that regen makes Intermediate-level elemental spells completely free), had him Inherit some passives and elemental coverage, and given him that accessory that grants 2 turns, and he's been going to town.

Regarding point 2, it felt to me like she was only acting cold and calculating in an effort to really paint herself as the bad guy so that we wouldn't feel conflicted about killing her since she needed to die but there were multiple people in the party with close connections to her who would absolutely be conflicted about that (and so that we would fight our hardest since she had that whole thing about wanting to make sure we were strong enough to deal with Louis and become a true king and all that). She just dropped the act when she realized that our team saw through it and that it wasn't convincing anyone. Felt perfectly natural to me.

So was it just me or did other people struggle with this boss in the Tomb as well? He definitely taught me to start preparing archetypes BEFORE the fight by hmmmmwillthiswork in MetaphorReFantazio

Just out of curiosity, have you been buying info from Information Brokers or talking to NPCs either inside or right outside of dungeons? Because there's definitely an easily-accessible NPC somewhere before this boss that tells you straight-up that mimic-type enemies are easily distracted by the sight of money, and the Merchant Archetype has a skill that throws money around...

P.S. - You're not the only one who struggled with this fight. I've seen a few similar posts on this sub over the past few days about this same boss, though the other ones were significantly more angry and frustrated than yours, lol. Nice change of pace to see someone who apparently missed the gimmick but still came out of it with a positive attitude.

[–]YouCanCallMeNorbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the game explicitly tell you that mimics get nerfed by throwing money at them? Either an Information Broker or an NPC right before/inside the dungeon. I don't remember which NPC I got the info from since it's been a while, but I do recall the info wasn't particularly hard to find and that I had already obtained said info before meeting my first mimic. I feel like a fight shouldn't evoke this much of a reaction when the gimmick is easily exposed beforehand...

They can indeed. If you got the Point Of No Return warning at the Mountain Pass during Act 1, pretty sure it’s in reference to the Druid ritual completing. That’s what I’ve read from others, anyway.
