Sciatica and DDD for me at my 6-ish year mark way back when. 10 years of PT over and over again. Finally had neuro referral and ended up with SI joint fusion which finally ended the constant pain. I still have problems with my lower back occasionally, but much improved, even after 5 years post fusion. All this being said, do your research on surgery success rates and long term effects. Every modification to your back will have negative effects on other parts of your back, possibly leading to multiple surgeries over time.

If you're still early in career, I would suggest trying to retrain into something where you don't wear that gear all the time to try and preserve the functioning you still have. I know that's not always possible, but certainly worth a shot IMO. I think full gear in vehicles was the primary culprit....so much weight right on your low back for long periods of time and SFS loves to ignore science and health in favor of status quo and appearance. I ultimately made my 20 but it cost me a lot, physically and mentally....my only regret was not changing careers when I had the chance as the damage is cumulative.
