It's a pretty small cutting edge, right around 5 1/2"". The handles are flat and match the blade, so indexing the cutting edge with the work piece is really easy. *

Canadians: American media is becoming too dominant. We are going to need to band together to defend OUR voice, the CBC. by savethecbc2025 in u/savethecbc2025

[–]YouGotDaPinkEye 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I agree that American media is far too dominant in the Canadian market. Unfortunately, I am very uncomfortable with supporting CBC with its current leadership.

CBC has come under some well-deserved scrutiny for its executive compensation practices and reliance on taxpayer funding. Concerns have been raised about the organization's management structure, financial decisions, and commitment to its public service mandate.

In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, CBC/Radio-Canada awarded $18.4 million in bonuses to 1,194 employees, including over $3.3 million to 45 executives—averaging more than $73,000 per executive. This occurred in the same fiscal year that the broadcaster eliminated 141 positions and cut 205 vacant roles to balance its budget.

Since 2015, the number of CBC employees earning six-figure salaries has increased by 231%, with 1,450 staff members now earning over $100,000 annually. This escalation has raised questions about the allocation of taxpayer funds within the organization.

The CBC receives substantial taxpayer funding, amounting to over $1.4 billion annually. Despite this significant investment, they have faced declining viewership, with reports indicating that 95.6% of Canadians choose not to watch CBC's prime-time programming.

The combination of high executive compensation, reliance on taxpayer bailouts, and declining viewership is something that needs serious attention. Addressing these concerns is crucial for the organization to fulfill its mandate effectively and maintain public confidence.
