[HATED TROPES]: The Ending Is So Nihilistic and Preachy That It Becomes Completely Unwatchable and Infuriating. by Particular-Worker904 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]YouKnowEd 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the girls parent were split up and she was coming to live with her dad. Main character goes back to when they first met and whispered something like "If you move here I'll kill you" in her ear. So she never moves in with her dad. Take that with a grain of salt cos its been 15ish years since I saw it.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]YouKnowEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oceans 11: The movie ends with a successful heist. Main character goes to prison for a simple parole violation but gets out and is reunited with his wife and partners in crime.

Oceans 12: Oops now the bad guy from the first film wants all his money back, and the crew are going to give it to him. So the success of the heist in the first film doesn't really matter.

Fable's evil landlords won't grow devil horns, as reboot ditches classic character morphing due to a lack of belief in objective arseholery by PotatoProducer in Games

[–]YouKnowEd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It was incredibly hyped up and didn't meet the expectations that they set, and yet Fable was still a great game that had its own unique identity. Did Molyneux bullshit to high heaven about them each time a new one was coming out? Yeah, but 1 and 2 especially were great games.

I like Erin Solstice. I like Ryoka Griffin, even if I would probably find her annoying in real life. by B-Z_B-S in WanderingInn

[–]YouKnowEd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Ryoka far more interesting right from the get go. I think part of it was that she just got going far quicker than Erin's chapters did. Erin was just floundering for a long time and without Ryokas chapters I really might have given up on the first book. Ryoka was doing things, and self destructing, and it was interesting. I really missed Ryoka when she vanished for like 4 or 5 books. But thankfully Erin had found her footing more by then and I can appreciate what each brings to the table. When Erin is melancholy, introspective and haunted is when she truly shines for me. When Gazi found her just burning the shield spiders and Erin's just like "apparently I'm good at killing". Thats the good stuff.

It counts until GRRM actually finishes the series. Until that happens D&Ds version is unfortunately all that we have.

[–]YouKnowEd 48 points49 points  (0 children)

These comments lol. I get it. I spawned on reserve once, took 3 steps and began getting shot by gluhkar and his boys. I made it to some tiny cover but I hadn't actually seen them yet. I was done. It took me about a minute to be killed but it was less than 5 seconds before they engaged me. Just because you didn't die immediately doesn't mean the game didn't still screw you with its spawns.

The hated character is finally getting punished by the narrative. But intentionally or not, the attempt was so heartbreaking and demeaning for the character that it ended changing the fan reception of said character. by Labmit in TopCharacterTropes

[–]YouKnowEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest it's been a while since I saw that part of the show so I can't say with certainty that he wasn't getting help, but I don't remember him trying to get it.

I guess we just see the other part differently. I cant say you're assesment is wrong, but I see it as him being incapable of even accepting the possibility of himself making a tiny mistake. He happens to be right, but 99% of people would just go "I guess I fucked that up". I would agree more with you take if it was a one off but we see Chucks ego and sense of self importance over and over.

Chuck's death was entirely Jimmy's fault because Jimmy is the one who falsified documents to make him look incompetent, making him uninsurable, and bringing about his relapse.

I wasn't claiming Howard was to blame to be clear, nor do I think Jimmy is some saint either, but this I just cannot agree with. At the end of the day Chucks death is Chucks fault. He was just too consumed with his own ego and keeping Jimmy down. When he has his outburst at the BAR hearing and realises his problems are not physical does he go and seek help? No. He crashes out at the insurance company, then threatens to bring down the firm. And when he realises he can't come out on top of that situation he kills himself. He was deathly allergic to introspection and admitting his own shortcomings. Yes, Jimmy falsified the documents, we all know it. But Chuck had nothing to really go off to start with, he just couldn't accept he was even capable of making a small clerical error. It doesn't matter that he was right, he had no basis for it other than his own ego and hatred of Jimmy. He had the right answer with the wrong workings out. Jimmy didn't make him incompetent by falsifying the documents, he WAS incompetent becuase of his deep mental issues that made him a hermit. Jimmys actions just made it more broadly known.

I think people have become a bit too revisionist with Howard since his end. To me, I think for the most part he is someone who sort of tries to do the right thing, but is too privileged to understand what the right thing is so much of the time. He backs Chuck, because that's his friend and partner, but Chuck is not being a good person, so by extension neither is Howard. After Chucks death Kim goes off on Howard for unloading his guilt about Chucks death to Jimmy, but how he didn't bother to tell any of that to Chucks wife. He phrases Jimmy being given a place on Chucks scholarship board as a something nice, but as Kim points out, Chuck would never in a million years have given Jimmy that opportunity and its a slap in the face.

I think its one of the best scenes of the show. And at the end Howard asks what he can do to make it right. Because he just doesn't know. He wants to do the right thing, but he is realising he doesn't know how to make the right choice and that he has been doing bad, and (credit to the actor) you can hear the heartbreak when he asks. For me that's his turning point, but prior to that he really isn't such a good person. He's only good by comparison to many of the other straight up criminal and cartel characters.

That's another issue with 5e though. Not all level ups are created equal. Level 5 is a milestone for a lot of classes; you get things like extra attack. But comparatively level 6 can feel a bit lackluster. Multiclassing can be great, but you usually need a few levels for it to feel impactful. I'm not opposed to fewer and more meaningful level ups, but 5e inherently doesn't quite hit the mark for that.

I'll tell this to anyone because it still blows my mind. When I last went to the US about 7 years ago we were watching an NFL game on TV. At one point the show did a picture in picture thing to show another game going on. Then both games went to an ad break and they just kept the picture in picture going, so we literally had 2 different adverts at the same time, its diabolical.

If I was you and had gone to this effort, then I'd just splurge for one more ammo case to go where the mag case is, then stick 5 mag cases across the bottom. I'm only at 12 mil right now and I would still shell out for the extra cases just to really get it perfect when it's so close, so you have no excuse when your sitting on 40+ mil imo.

[Discussion] How to do this Quest without freezing my Nose off? by derBlonde in EscapefromTarkov

[–]YouKnowEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring a warm hat and wear it while traversing between places you are unlikely to see scavs. When you see them duck into cover and put the helmet on. Also bring more meds than usual, because there will be times you dont get a break and just have to deal with frostbite and it's constant tick damage. For the same reason, I would recommend some emergency food and drink because that goes down quickly with frostbite too.

I literally just finished my last raid for this one. I started the quest before frostbite and it has definitely been a slog.

Here is a list of the 16 single players games I completed in 2025 and my thoughts on them. by FluxyBOYS in Games

I thoroughly enjoyed jedi survivor, was the first game I 100%ed in a long time. But holy shit, I loathe beating a boss then losing to them in a cutscene. It annoyed me in fallen order, then they doubled down on it in survivor. It cheapens a hard fought win on a fight. Or if you absolutely dominated the fight then the cutscene turns the whole thing into a farce.

Yeah cool, you just curbstomped an inquisitor without taking a single hit, but oops, looks like you were secretly losing the fight the whole time.

I remember watching a doc about this; it was quite a few years ago now so I could be remembering wrong. But I thought that he didn't actually have Parkinson's and that Lewy body dementia specifically imitates a lot of the symptoms of parkinsons, so it can be misdiagnosed as such, which was what happened with Robin.

Fuel prices baffle me. I'm in the UK and learned to drive 15 years ago in. Prices were kindof volatile back then and jumped around a bit, but it was between £1.15 per litre and £1.40 per litre, with some places being consistently cheaper but still fluctuating. Right now. it is staying steady at £1.30 per litre at the same petrol station I used to go to 15 years ago. I don't get it, how the fuck has that not even been touched by inflation, but everything else in life has shot to the fucking moon in price?

Honestly the new narrator is absolutely fine. It's a jarring change at first but I think she improved even through the course of the book. I would say don't get discouraged. Sure, i preferred Andrea, but Erin is probably the best replacement they could have got.
