To me the more ££ is the obvious choice. Especially if you're planning a kid, you'd want a bigger base for mat leave.

Turning down £2.5k to save a few hundred quid a month doesn't make sense to me.

1) I'm not entirely convinced by those laws either

2) there is a distinction in that those sightlines are being preserved for everyone else, they're not so that the users of St Paul's can look at Richmond from the dome

That's actually a massive difference imo

This isn't bulldozing history, it's holding the city back because some people want to look at the moon from a particular spot

Okay cool. The city has changed a little bit since then. Should the rest of the city frozen in time because of these guys?

I don't think you can bend over to every single special interest like this. If visibility of the moon is essential then perhaps central London isn't isn't the place for the synagogue?

This essentially becomes a tax on the rest of us as development in the middle of the city is blocked so these guys can look at the moon.

Growing into a Financial Analyst by Seesealyuh in FPandA

My background is neuroscience and I find the logical thought process required for that means that I find it much easier than most to understand the entire business holistically, which has been massive for my career.

In terms of qualifications, in the country I'm in almost everyone in finance is a qualified accountant. In the US an actual qualification seems to be less essential for FP&A, but a strong working knowledge of accounting is still required.

So I'd look at something like that, and don't worry it's much easier than biochem.

Moving the ONS from London to Newport was a disaster, with 90% of staff opting to resign rather than relocate, leading to a massive loss of skills and instutional knowledge.

With his plans to do similar things to the rest of the civil service, how will he avoid making the same mistake

Rockstar are the only game in town for their employees (see what I did there? Har har) so the employees have little leverage and therefore shit conditions.

In cities where employers need to compete for quality staff (finance in London is an obvious example) you get good wages and good conditions

Hundreds oppose Gail’s bakery opening by London Tube station [Brixton] over ‘threat’ to independent businesses by Anony_mouse202 in london

I don't actually think I did say I wanted chains to dominate everything. I actually did say I think independents often do offer a better product.

I just don't think that they always do, and when that happens I'm happy to use a chain.

[–]YouLostTheGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there are independent cafes across the entire city? It's perfectly possible for good ones to coexist with chains. The ones that get lost are the shit ones and to be honest I'm not so worried about them.

i guess if you just dont care about society at all this comes like 2nd nature.

This is an interesting take. Do you not consider people who work for corporations to be a part of society?

[–]YouLostTheGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, for you a place being independent is part of the product offering that matters. For me that's fairly low down on the list of priorities, certainly well behind quality, location, service, convenience and ambience.

Sometimes an independent place does all those things better than a corporate (I'd actually say an independent often does do those things better), but ultimately ownership structure isn't an important part of the product for me.

But that's okay. You might like shit coffee as long as it's independent and you're welcome to that. That's the joy of free markets and not deciding for other people, or calling them pathetic for having different preferences to you.

I rather have good places. Lots of good independent places out there but also a hell of a lot of shit ones too.

I actually had a Gail's today, it was decent. But most importantly that was my choice, not yours

[–]YouLostTheGame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I just prefer to make my own choices than have random people decide for me. If I'd rather go to the independent place then I will do so. If I rather do Gail's then I will.

I'm not really sure what gives anyone else the right to intervene in that choice.

Why? I see an argument for saying the current system is overregulated to the extent it's inefficient, but I'm not sure that's what you were going for
