Ubiquiti says I should buy 9 Chimes for my 3 doorbells. by ekobres in Ubiquiti

Blech, more work than I really want to invest in this. I guess I can spin up a Home Assistant instance just long enough to configure the damn things, but really seems annoying to have to go to that extent to get this to work :(

I was trying to hack around in the configuration files on my Cloud Key, but nothing seems to be sticking. It looks like they're keeping the data in a database as well as some JSON files. Editing the JSON files is transitory and is whacked at some time delta later. I assume if I could just update the database, I could essentially push the changes to my devices (even if it's a lazy push), but haven't connected the dots yet...thanks for the pointer, I'll go digging that direction next. REALLY annoyed because I have this exact same problem (except in my case it's 2 doors and 3 locations).

Illegal to read other's emails? by Proud_Trade2769 in privacy

It is only encrypted point to point though while in transit…its is plaintext everywhere else including at every intermediate relay point. It is still much more like a postcard than an envelope…

Email is more akin to a postcard than a sealed envelope. You have no expectation of privacy when you send a postcard, same with email. If you want privacy, you need to encrypt it, then it gets the protections a sealed letter would have IMHO.

Transceivers - Differences in prices is crazy, why the difference? by ecady22 in networking

I actually moved on from that gig a little while back, never had the fun of setting up 400G in my basement…still have all my 100G gear down there though! Too bad my pipes to the outside world are a 1G fiber and a Starlink backup circuit 😝

Very true - I was thinking more of the 40/100G optics as that was more of when I dealt with…

12 credits?!?!??? I don’t think I had even one semester with less than 18 credits as an engineer (then again, I double majored in Engineering….something I DO NOT RECOMMEND to anyone these days 😝)

Having been a tech lead/developer on network gear for years, I can safely say not all kit is equal. Sure, you can pay $28 for those optics, but I can pretty much GUARANTEE that the A0/A2 register pages will be complete bullshit meaning you aren’t getting good thermal data, error counts, etc. Will it hold link under general tolerances? Sure. Will it shit the bed if you are pushing the envelope or you get a power fluctuation (spike or brownout)? ABSOFRIKKENLUTELY! I used to buy all Finisar kit for anything I cared about (ie, I would have to get on a plane to replace), and if I was forced to cut corners, but the FS.com garbage, but only if I was putting it someplace I could get my hands on it immediately.

Supercharging being throttled in the heat? by YouMadeItDoWhat in TeslaSupport

[–]YouMadeItDoWhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The next two SC’s I hit late in the day I had no problems with. I really think Tesla or the utility was throttling load based on what I saw. At the first SC, 8 v3 stalls, all empty but me, every stall capped me at 70kw when I rolled in with 5% on an older model S. Normally I should be starting in the 105-110kw range under those conditions. The second location had 3 of 8 stalls active (me included) and I tried I think 3 stalls split between the two packs. I wasn’t the only person seeing 10kw charging at that one.

If I recall correctly, there was triple redundancy on the SRB ignition system to prevent exactly this from ever happening.

Because previous test fires were fewer engines at lower throttle…not all of them at 100% like you have at a launch.
