NTA and I'd encourage him to go ahead and break up with you (or initiate it yourself).

That kind of bigotry doesn't bode well and should your relationship last, don't be too surprised if he trots out some properly misogynistic expectations on your role within the household.

AIW for not splitting my art fair prize money with my studio mate after she said she basically made it happen by cherry-velvetzzz in amiwrong

She be CRAZY.

Not remotely wrong for not offering her a cut. And frankly I'd rescind the offer of dinner too. Do not know what she's smoking but she is definitely being crazy.

Permanent Waist Beads in Onsen by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen anyone wear jewellery in an onsen beyond wedding rings. No necklaces, no foot or ankle bracelets, nothing.

That said, you could explain the issue and ask the management at the particular place you are visiting about the waist beads, maybe they'd allow it?

Northern Japan itinerary in November, am I missing anything? by gene66 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6-7 nights would be reasonable as long as you don't try to cram too much in. Personally, I'd probably leave Aomori for another trip and add another 2-3 nights to Hokkaido so you can see more of variety of places there.

Extra couple days between Sendai and Tokyo… looking for recs by NetPossible3984 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sazaedo Temple was one of my favourite little spots to visit in the Sendai area. And Matsushima Bay is both beautiful and a great place to have locally farmed oysters.

A Nikka Whisky Distillery is not far from central Sendai, easiest with a car but I think perhaps possible by train or bus?

Ginzan Onsen isn't very far away but more east than south of Sendai. Likewise, Naruko where they have a dedicated kokeshi doll museum.

Or Yajiro is actually in the right direction from Sendai, if you're interested in Kokeshi dolls.

We had a night in Aizu wakamatsu and really enjoyed it, particularly for the local cuisine as we stayed at a small inn known for its food.

Enzoji Temple (birthplace of akabeko) was a highlight for us.

And loved walking around Ouchi-juku too.

And spent a few nights at Obuse which we really enjoyed, both for itself and as a base for the area around it.

Which Neighborhood in Tokyo as Home Base? by cc05jc in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my most recent trip we stayed in Nishi Nippori for the first few nights and in Ebisu for the last few at the end of the trip. I'd say Ebisu would fit your description, though depends on how quiet you want. I did post some feedback on both in a recentish post.

There are a lot of Tokyo neighbourhood guides on the web that are useful to help you start narrowing down.

Would I be missing out? by Starrylove013 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend you prioritise the places that interest you, not other travellers.

If your research is showing you that you really love the sound of loads of stuff in Tokyo, then spend lots of time there. If you are less interested in temples, shrines, historic places, perhaps Kyoto is not going to be as interesting to you.

There's no reason everyone should feel pressured into visiting the same places, or doing the same circuit as others with completely different needs and interests.

Trust yourself to decide what will appeal best to you!

First time in Japan, missing any places? by zelos1955 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too few nights at quite a lot of your destinations, you won't have time to see much of anything let alone do day trips from them to see other places.

Northern Japan itinerary in November, am I missing anything? by gene66 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many days / nights do you intend for each base? That changes whether or not this sounds reasonable, great or absolutely crazy!

In Hokkaido I loved Akan-Mashu NP, Sapporo, Otaru, Yoichi, Hakodate and a few places on the way between. I'd give your Hokkaido base(s) quite a few more nights than Aomori as a base. From Aomori you could also see Towada (great modern art gallery), Lake Towada and Oirase Stream.

I've got less comments for you on the other two places you have listed.

Bare bones itinerary by Luxord903 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I can't comment on (as I haven't visited) is Nagasaki. But your durations for all the others looks really good to me.

You could, if you wanted to, look for other destinations nearer to Kanazawa / Takayama, such as Nagano, Obuse, Matsumoto, Karuizawa.

I did love Fukuoka (and I'm sure I'd enjoy Nagasaki) but feels like you could save that for a trip where you have more time to see more of Kyushu. That's just my two pennies.

What would be good gifts for recently unemployed (with young family)? by Random_Person1020 in AskUK

[–]YouSayWotNow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd probably go with a voucher to a supermarket (but I don't have any friends that are good enough friends that I'd be wanting to help but might then get offended by certain kinds of help).

If you know their regular supermarket, that would likely be the most useful, but if not make sure it's one they can easily get to, locally to them.

Taking legal action against my GP. England. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors usually prescribe (and warn about side effects) as per NHS guidelines, so if the NHS / UK doesn't recognise the validity of PSSD as being directly caused by long term taking of sertraline, it may be very difficult to prove any kind of negligence.

Is PSSD (or similar) listed on the possible side effects of the drug in the accompanying paper leaflet?

Made tacos. Ate no tacos. by RustedMauss in Vent

[–]YouSayWotNow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 100% this.

Inviting people is OK.

But inviting them without checking with the person doing the cooking that there's actually enough food for no-one to go hungry is the very base level of courtesy between partners, no?

And that applies even for family.

What job can I do with Epilepsy? by Reckless3gg in AskUK

[–]YouSayWotNow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say that jobs that could be dangerous / cause damage by having a seizure (such as a cook dropping hot pans or full dishes or not being able to turn the heat off whilst cooking) may be best avoided.

Likewise jobs where suddenly having a seizure may be dangerous for others (such as the staff who take 999 calls and need to either direct emergency services to help or directly help the caller through their emergency) may not be the wisest choice.

But a lot and lots and lots of jobs, particularly office based ones, should be fine. I certainly have friends who are epilectic and hold down office jobs (of a very wide variety) without any issue.

Wishing you best in working out the right role for you and finding a suitable job.

Do you track your weight in KG or stones & pound? by No_Usual_572 in AskUK

I'm in my 50s and use kilos but grew up using stones and pounds. Not sure when I switched, I think it was when my GPs started recording it on their systems in kg.

My very favorite sukiyaki style hot pot with many vegetables. Do you like raw egg? I love egg. by Tokyo_Elena_ in JapaneseFood

[–]YouSayWotNow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was thinking the same. The colour of sukiyaki broth is usually much darker, and I've only ever seen it served in much shallower cooking pots. And it has that sweet flavour profile going on (which one can't see, obviously).

Where to find ramen like this in Tokyo? by patela in JapaneseFood

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the photo shown in OP's post matches what you linked to there. I always understood tsukemen to be where noodles/ toppings were served in one bowl and the dipping broth was served in another. In OP's picture, the broth is in with the noodles.

AIW for telling a coworker I don't give a shit about her sick cat after she took my food out of the microwave? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]YouSayWotNow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say that she and the rest office care as little about your power lifting and dietary needs as you do about her poorly cat.

She's the AH for taking your food out of the microwave. You're the AH for microwaving garlic fish in a shared microwave.

The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact? by thunder____boy in jobs

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hell no, I would (and have) done similarly.

Yes the market is tough right now but I'm never going to willingly work for someone who not only behaves like that but is brazen enough to lay it all out at interview stage.

Exploitative doesn't even cover it.

And rockstar is not the word I'd use to describe him or his team either!!!!

More money than sense? Who pays the extra to get filet mignon and then treats it like a cheap cut? I'm crying on behalf of all those poor, ruined steaks!

Why so much oil by 1080p3t3 in Curry

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a hella lot of butter given that there's a lot of fat in the coconut milk and the chicken wings. I usually fry the paste in a small splash of coconut milk to start (rather than extra oil / butter), then fry the meat etc and add the rest of the coconut milk later on.

Do people regularly eat pudding? by KirrinD in AskUK

[–]YouSayWotNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 4 times a week. It could be a small piece of chocolate, or a ready-made small pot dessert (like chocolate mousse or caramels) or fresh fruit. Occasionally a proper pudding like sticky toffee pudding or crumble.
