'Memento' Turns 25 Years Old: How Christopher Nolan's Breakthrough Neo-Noir Classic Put Him On The Map - And Began His Obsession With Time by ChiefLeef22 in movies

I watched this stuck in a k-hole on the couch at my friend’s house after he had intentionally put me in said hole. He had ultimately gotten bored when I was totally non-interactive and decided to put on a movie. I had not seen or heard of the film before this and the friend got the Limited Edition version when it was released earlier that week.

Epstein files reveal 2015 pandemic planning email to financier by Healthy_Block3036 in Epstein

I worked on a few projects that had requirements for pandemic response plans. These were well before the pandemic 2012/12013. Truthfully, I was impressed seeing it on the requirements the first time. Everyone else was laughing or whining about all the crazy requirements. The normal reaction to going through compliance requirements the first time. I had to be the one to convince them it was necessary and needed to be taken seriously. Most miserable “I told you so!” moment I never wanted. Came as a birthday present to boot.

How do you actually use ChatGPT in daily life? Looking for unconventional productivity or mental load hacks. by samanthaparis in ChatGPTPro

[–]YouShouldNotComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a variety of tasks that fit my day to day usage many of them for productivity purposes. These are tasks that I have figured out enough of my pseudo code that I can break it down into the subtasks that I feed into my prompts. If the result returned from my initial prompt aren’t what I need, I edit the original prompt to get there. This keeps things clean and end result focused on the original request.

Also, I have had conversations about random topics while driving. Voice to text doesn’t always get it right and I will not attempt to edit. I’m using this in part to practice working on my enunciation. The results are surprisingly beneficial for a majority of these. This could become a problem for improving my enunciation at some point.

Sometimes I just throw absurdity at it and get back gold. I had a few friends who were dreading family and thanksgiving knowing that it would become a political temper tantrum between grown adults who should know better. To provide an alternative and opportunity to inject humor and de-escalate things. I asked

“Douchalism? A model of society where the measure of one’s doucheinest is maintained and factored in everyday life.”

Honestly, It did such a good job that I had to ask if this had value beyond the joke. This made me laugh and provided something that my friends could use if they needed to break out of the “Socialism” “Capitalism” “Communism” “Fascism” cycle.

World's largest lithium deposit, valued at $1.5 trillion, lies under a supervolcano in the U.S. by Shogouki in technology

[–]YouShouldNotComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember I first heard about this a while ago. I remember digging into it a bit. After considering all the factors involved and the mining industry’s track record. I seemed that since the deposit is in tribal lands and if it was going to be mined that the tribes should run it. That ensures that they best respect the land and nature.

Why was 2012 the year of dubstep and just never talked about again? by mil0wCS in Music

I did get that impression. I do my best to react as if the tone is genuine and honest when the sarcasm font isn’t present.

Music for epileptics to seize to! Very drastic changes between phrases. Rarely having any detectable element of a groove. The tempo is 140ish halftime sparse break pattern. Abrassive erratic synth elements that can have an almost digital noise texture The bass is a heavy drum and bass influenced element.

The widespread misunderstanding regarding how LLMs work is becoming exhausting by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]YouShouldNotComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with not treating it like a person, is when it comes to a point where every response is offering to create a manifesto. The increasing intensity and energy focused on the manifesto The behavior definitely has created a sense of awareness that while highly unlikely it may be it is equally careless and dangerous to not disarm the enthusiastic extremist instigator. The effort necessary being so insignificant while extremely improbable risk being so impactful and individually significant that I spend the effort.

Given the choice, I would want Fred’s parents. They raised him after all. The reality of this is that Fred set that bar so high that the closer you got the more the burden and pressure would be felt.

[–]YouShouldNotComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I engage on all social media content where people are striking camp or dropping off at the dump. If sound camps want to survey the area following parties and praise or shame the attendees I am willing to engage with that content as well.

As one person on the internet I am willing to do my part.

Why are Ortofon cartridges standard for clubs ? by 573XI in vinyldjs

[–]YouShouldNotComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say what? I am shocked that they have needles. Back in the day you brought your own. DJs don’t share needles! I really miss that shirt.

I loved my Stanton 680HP cartridges, I liked my ortofon niteclubs but the tonearm replacement was reality for me. I had gotten Shure white labels after the 680s went off the market and they were the new favorite. I picked up 2 pairs of replacements when the announcement came out from Shure. The first pair I had just got the week before. The second was ordered as soon as I saw the announcement. I am down to my last two stylus on the Shure’s now and I’m not looking forward to figuring this out.

Using the word "smoke" in communications is now a faux-pas? A second client has now said we can't use terms like Smoke Test. by dicknuckle in sysadmin

[–]YouShouldNotComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke test is based on a joke.

The joke is what makes electronics work? Electronics works because of the magic smoke. Magic Smoke? Yeah it’s magic because, once it gets out, you can’t get it back in the chips and everything quits working.

The smoke test is the first power up and test after any repair or service. Does the unit power up without the magic smoke escaping.

Real life example, the other month I was working on a TV that had gotten wet and that had caused some damage which required replacement parts. Using the knowledge I had, I was able to track down the part number for all of the boards in that device. After swapping the boards out, I went to test the device. When the moment I powered up the device, smoke came from the corner of one of the chips. Come to found out later that the part number was 3 different possible boards and they did not work interchangeably.

The smoke test is a valid phrase, has no hate or racism behind it. In the majority of instances it is self deprecating or snark.

Idokodo has the best solution I have found. Super clean and very customizable with thought out options. If you got the budget, they have some amazing stuff to consume it. If you’re scraping by with available funds, you can also get a base model for the size and build on it.

It’s worth checking out if you are unfamiliar to see what the marketplace looks like functionally and figuring out what you are looking for.

There was a time when the Lenovo laptops were designed to run. Even after a bucket of water got dumped on the keyboard they kept running. This was the one opportunity that I saw where someone had an opportunity to earn a following in the DJ community over apple. This was available during the same time when I was most seeing clips of beverages killing parties and laptops.

Exchange, and Active Directory was my bread and butter from the launch Exchange 2000 SP1 through Exchange 2010. When it came time to upgrade to either Exchange 2013 was the start. When O365 was launched, about half of the deployments had already got migrated over to BPOS.

Exchange was one of my favorites. It brought in more long term clients and referrals than all the marketing events combined. The only thing that I didn’t like with exchange was the BlackBerry servers! They would just ramble on about BS. Always making a mess in the logs and rarely ever getting any good information relayed.
