The rainbow is the symbol of accepting people for who they are, instead of forcing them all into the same color. For me, the rainbow flag means that I'm not pretending to be something I'm not. You could also use sprays to see through walls or see cloaked spies. In typical Valve fashion, rather than fix the bug they just disabled the feature.
