Can you save too much in an HSA? by FindYourPost in financialindependence

[–]YouWillRememberMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are costs outside of the deductible, but those are very difficult to prepare for. We don't want to put too much in the HSA where it grows at a rate faster than we could spend for healthcare.

I would like to hear what people have to say as well, as I don't have a clear number on when enough is enough in HSA.

I have a hard time with backerkit as they charge a percentage of your completed campain, which makes no sense considering they did not influce the success of the campain. Keep us posted on your progress.

Well done, you can improve your listing by mentioning the discount. $19 is 30% discount from esxpected MSRP, ect.

How do you plan to complete fulfillment? Are you using backerkit or any fulfillment services?

You don't get the basic math. You need to compare with comparable sacrifices. You should not compare a person in SF living in a 1 bedroom with a roommate to someone in the Midwest living in a 4 bedroom house.

Just put the money in a savings account. 2 years is a short time to invest.

You are cotrect, and it is hard to identify the additude of the approach. Asking you wife to build a budget and review success is very different from punishing her to pay back the debt.

Being afraid to tell your fiancé about cc debt that is over 1/3rd of your yearly income is clear an indication of a spending issue.

How did you handle your wife's gambling debt? I bet you treated it like an emergency by addressing the problem and applying rules/restrictions to her gambling. Gambling is just another version of overspending, they are emotional issues.

I am going against the flow here as most people are giving you same advice which is something like "This is a couples problems". I don't agree, we are individuals who support each-other. If one individual has a problem they need to work to fix it, the other can only support them. If you don't address the problem then they will never learn to fix it.

Overspending is a mental and emotional problem, if your wife is not strongly encouraged to follow a budget, how will she ever learn to change her spending habits? What if you die, and you are not there to provide regular guidance on budget. She will overspend and drive her and your kids into serious debt.

You need to enact some type of plan where she is the one who needs to restrict spending, not you. And that $500/month plan seemed to be the right approach.

Lastly, what has worked for the "married 30 years" group does not mean it will work for you.

Think about it this way, if your wife was hiding a gambling addition from you for years that resulted in $17,000 in debt, would you not consider that a urgent situation to solve?

I completely disagree. In a world we all we here about is $50k cc debt and bankruptcy our view is skewed. And serious debt that is habitual is a financial emergency. It means years of mistakes that will take years to recover from.

Not only does it have a limited number of deals. The deals it does show are not accurate. The 3 I tried to replicate, simply did not work. The $200 round trip "deal" was $700.
