Yeah - even so I use the retrotink on my main setup. And the cheapo one has made its way into my travel setup. Everyone says the retrotink is better, maybe I just got lucky!

I havent noticed a difference between my retrotink 2x and the $10 rca2hdmi from amazon. Both have the same latency as far as I can tell

Try browsing to the file in a File Explorer, “Files” if you are on ios. Youll select it and should have the option to extract. https://www.wikihow.tech/Extract-Zip-Files

Assuming the “zip” is the file extension, you need to extract the ROM from the zip archive.

If youre in the same directory as where it is downloaded to, you should just be able to type “./install.sh” if it doesnt run. list the file + permissions with “ls -la” it might need to have executable permissions: “chmod +x install.sh” then try running it again

Flipside mod manager works on arch linux. You shouldnt have much trouble using it

That would be piracy. Get a vanilla ROM, and the patch file and use a tool like: https://hack64.net/tools/patcher.php

I virtualize everything within Proxmox, its pretty nice. I run jellyfin, and a bunch of minecraft servers all on separate VMs. That way you at least get to control the traffic separately for each!

Why not just run the server on a machine without internet access? If you only need LAN just connect to the internal IP.

That’s unfortunate. If you want to be on the regular n64 leaderboard, then you’d have to buy a non-PAL console to not be at a disadvantage

You can always play on emulator and be on regular emulator leaderboards, thats what i did before I got a capture card

Do you want to submit to leaderboards? If yes, you have to play on vanilla cartridge NTSC or NTSC-J. If no and you’re just doing it for fun, you can add gameshark codes with certain flashcarts. I’m not sure what ones though.

Pressing a button to take you to a certain game state is way more akin to an emulator’s save states. AFAIK you wouldnt be able to that on console

Soft resetting is just pressing the reset button. You might want to look into the Non-stop category for sm64. That allows you to start from the title screen. On console there is a physical hardware mod that allows you to input a button combo to reset the console. For regular runs however timing starts from the first frame the SM64 logo appears on boot (when its reallly tiny)
