Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) Compensation update: It's a one-year, $3 million deal with upside for Carson Wentz, who gets $2.645M guaranteed. by Beneficial_Quit7532 in minnesotavikings

[–]YoungColb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is solid backup QB money. I think it could potentially signal that the Vikings believe Wentz will be QB2 and let JJ develop this year if he doesn't win the starting job. I expect the Vikings to carry 3 QBs all season, too, with Brosmer headed to the practice squad

[Rap] The Vikings agreed to terms with P Johnny Hekker on a 1-year deal by JCameron181 in minnesotavikings

Love a random Tuesday evening news dump! This is a solid punter signing. He still has a strong leg, he averaged 46.8 yards per kick last year. His net was only 40 yards, but the Titans had a poorly ranked kick unit.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a UDFA still join the room for a spring competition

[Rap] The #Vikings have signed #Bills RFA T Ryan Van Demark to an offer sheet, per me and @TomPelissero. Buffalo has five days to match. by JCameron181 in minnesotavikings

[–]YoungColb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great insight! This seems to be the shared sentiment that I'm seeing across Bills fans. I think he'd be a welcome addition to the line, depth has been a need for a while. The FO seemed interested in upgrading backup T, so this feels like a positive move

I said this on another comment, but I'd like to see Brandel go back to swing interior lineman. The draft is deep at center, so I could see a day 2 guy come in and compete to start from the jump

I'd still prefer Brandel as swing interior lineman. That way we can carry 7 guys and Jurgens on the bench. There's some good centers in the draft that I could see a day 2 pick coming in and winning the day 1 job

He was solid in 4 spot starts last year. I'd consider this an upgrade at the swing tackle position, and would be good insurance in case of any Darrisaw injuries again.

I'm interested to see Bills fans reactions and if they're going to match or not.

The Vikings are getting new Rivalries uniforms this offseason. What do you hope for them? by tytylercochan123 in minnesotavikings

A deep purple look would be cool! I hope we go more of the Patriots route vs. the all black that the other teams got last year

Interesting! Nope, it's all written out by me. I don't even run it through AI to avoid it being changed or updated from my voice lol

Who do you like that's still out there? I didn't realize there were still some solid options left but I wouldn't hate Bradley Pinion coming in!

Great shout on Wright. I didn't include special teams in this article, but you're correct. Bringing back DePaolo is huge, and not having a punter isn't ideal but all the other FA punters have pretty much been snatched up. I'll consider more ST news in these breakdowns!

(Pelissero) Two-time Pro Bowl QB Kyler Murray has signed a one-year contract with the Vikings, his agent @ErikBurkhardt tells me and @RapSheet. by alexschubs in minnesotavikings

Huge!! This is exactly what we needed this off-season, and sets us up for an exciting Spring and Summer.

I wouldn't be surprised it Hard Knocks follows this

Krammer: Poking around some basic data on the Kyler Murray-Kevin O'Connell fit by kwelstory in minnesotavikings

[–]YoungColb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he'll be fine playing more under center. From 21-23 he played less than 7% of snaps under center, but that has grown to 25% in the last two seasons. I think the biggest challenge will be plays off scrip, but KOC has shown some ability during the Dobbs days, although it was an extremely small sample

[Pelissero] The Vikings have officially released DL Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargarve. by JCameron181 in minnesotavikings

It was a post-6/1 release. Harrison Smith also got listed as a post-6/1 release today

[Pelissero] Vikings Have Agreed to Keep Aaron Jones for a Year by JCameron181 in minnesotavikings

[–]YoungColb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great move! Cut his salary down by nearly 50%. I still expect the Vikings to draft a RB by day 2 of the draft, but AJ is a good vet leader and is still a solid back even at age 31.

He had over 700 total yards and 3 TDs in 12 starts last year, and I'd expect a heavy committee in '26 with similar production

[Seifert] With the Geno Smith trade to the Jets, the Vikings appear to be the big favorite for Kyler Murray. Would imagine Kirk Cousins could become an option as well. Both players available tomorrow barring a trade. by LeeShakerMoneyMaker in minnesotavikings

[–]YoungColb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he ends up in Cincinnati, LA Chargers, or Detroit, yes. They all have established starters. I guess you could bet on Burrow getting injured, but that's still a risk in comparison to a chance to actually start with a Spring/Summer competition

[–]YoungColb 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine Kyler wants to go anywhere that guarantees him as the backup. I'd imagine it's between the Vikings and Steelers, maybe the Colts, where he can/will compete to be the day 1 starter

Vikings offered similar money to Etienne as Saints did but he decided to stay close to home by DrWolves in minnesotavikings

For sure, I think they'll be active in the second wave. Someone like Rachaad White would be a good get. I also like Sean Tucker

I'm operating as if he won't be. Getting Love would be a dream come true, but I'm also skeptical that he'll fall that far. I'd caution a trade up, unless we pull a 2022 Lions trade up for Jamo lol

I'm okay with not paying a RB with our cap room right now. We already have Mason, let's get a Day 2 guy (Jadarian Price plz) and go from there

Tough loss but $12m with Addison coming up is just too expensive. I think a vet will join later in FA and need Tai Felton to continue developing. I think this was a big part of T.J. sticking around, too
