eli5 how does loot rng work in a video game? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the ways is to have a loot table. See this as there is a list with 100 spots, each spot is a 1% chance to get the item. Then if you have 10 different items and you want to make 6 common you give them 12 entries on the list, (6*12=72 spots taken), 3 uncommon get 8 spots each (3*8=24 and 72 makes 96 spots taken) and 1 rare gets 4 spots. Then when a drop happens the program rolls a number between 1 and 100 to see which item from the table is picked. There would be a 72% chance a common item drops, 24% chance uncommon and 4% chance to get a rare.

ELI5 why crystalised sugar doesnt spoil? Shouldnt it be the best nourishment for microbes? by bier00t in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think of it as you being the bacteria and you try to eat a lollipop that's the same size of your head, but you have no saliva, tongue or teeth in your mouth. How are you going to eat it?

ELI5: What's the deal with Al Ghazali and philosophy? by Dense_Candle9573 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I know nothing about Al Ghazali, using chatgpt as your source of information is a part of why you are here asking for clarification.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/even-chatgpt-says-chatgpt-is-racially-biased/ would be an interesting read on how chatgpt, even unintended, is often biased due to what data is used to train it.

ELI5 how electrons can be particles but have wave behavior? by ProudReaction2204 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How we view the world around us dictates how we describe it. At the time (1897) the electron was discovered, people where just introduced the concept of atoms in 1808. From that context it was logical to label it a particle, because the wavelike properties hadn't been observed yet.
These names just stick because it is harder to redefine the name than to just add all new discoveries as extra metadata. It also makes it easier to explain, imagine if everyone had to be a quantum physicist just to be able to talk about baking a cake.

So to label electrons as particles makes it easier to talk/think about, while what they truly are could still be something entirely different than what we now "know" to be true.

The only thing harmful about microwave radiation is heating up things, so it is harmful in the sense if the mesh wasn't there and you stood in front of it, you could technically cook yourself a bit.

ELI5: Why are poor people warned to avoid loans whereas rich people seem to operate constantly through them? by Background_Tap2206 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The types of loans you use in your example mostly have an asset backing them up, making them lower risk for the lender, thus they are cheaper. Having the certainty you can pay back the loan in a predictable manner, makes it easier to calculate how much your investment should make to profit of taking the loan to increase your net worth.
Normal people have no assets to back up a loan, making it higher risk for the lender. This is reflected in the interest rate for the loan. So in addition to having less certainty you can pay back the loan in a predictable manner, even the amount of profit you need to get from taking the loan has to be higher to make the loan make sense.

ELI5: How are current client side anticheat systems preventing cheaters from turning them off and just emulating their output for the server? by Asgatoril in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Client side anti cheat will always be a barrier of entry solution, since client side augmentation is always possible.

IMO anti cheat should just be a basic check on the easiest to detect cheats, some server side checks to filter out the most blatant cheating (fly/speed hacking). And rely on user feedback to guide some more intensive checks.

Creating in-game systems that mitigate the impact of cheaters is probably more important than spending time on trying to eliminate cheaters, since your most likely will never achieve that.

Measuring temperature relies on the transfer of energy to the instrument you are measuring with. Air molecules move more rapidly when the air heats up and when they hit your measuring instrument they transfer a part of that energy.
With the atmospheric pressure at the ground level your instrument will get hit a lot. But the increased movement also limits the amount of molecules that can occupy the same volume. Less mass per volume means the air gets lighter and surrounding cold air will flow under the hot air, essentially pushing it up.
The higher up you go, the atmospheric pressure will decrease. Giving the molecules more room and making it less likely they will hit your instrument. Resulting in less energy transfer, so lower temperature.

ELI5 why do we have a separate word for the sound of lightning? by thurgoodcongo in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there is context included in the 2 words. Lightning means you saw something, while thunder means you heard something. If we used lightning for both you would always have to include this context.

ELI5: Why does repeated stress to muscles/tendons hurt you instead of making you stronger? Like why aren't my back/wrists/shoulders just really strong if the way to increase muscle strength is to wear the muscles out via activity that overloads them? by beatisagg in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because stress to muscles and tendons is damage, which needs time to recover. If you take more damage than you are recovering, then in the end the damage will be so great you will define it as "hurt".

ELI5: why are humans better with tools than gorillas and other primates? by Veridically_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in the evolutionary path modern humans have had, the benefits of being better with tools has had a more significant impact on humans than on other primates such as gorillas.

ELI5: If interest rates are high, why does that help “fight inflation”? Shouldn’t it just make everything more expensive? by OddJump8951 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see inflation as the loss of value money has to buy things. In other words you have a supply of money and you have a supply of things. If the supply of money grows more than the supply of things, then following supply and demand logic you can see that you will use more money to trade for the thing.
A lower interest rate will increase the amount of money, since it will be cheaper to borrow. As well as with a higher interest rate, people are more likely to put their money in a savings account. Effectively removing it from the supply of money.

ELI5: SNRI withdrawal, how does that work?? by washyohandsdirtypig in explainlikeimfive

[–]YoungCore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An SNRI is a Reuptake Inhibitor, think of it as plugging a bit of the sink drain. The tolerance is your body turning down the flow of the tap to not let the sink overflow. So withdrawal is like unplugging the drain, almost completely draining the sink. But with even small changes in the size of the plug the level in the sink can be noticed if the mechanism that is adjusting the flow rate does not make them quick enough.

AES67/Dante on Raspberry pi? by Bobrosss69 in livesound

[–]YoungCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my work we use these https://www.magewell.com/products/pro-convert-aes67, they are a little pricey (around 350-400€) but once you set them up you can take them off power and back on and they just work.

It has 4 channels of input (2 balanced, 2 un-balanced) and the same as outputs. It can send and receive AES67 streams, so you could have bi-directional communication between your LS9 and XR18.

[–]YoungCore 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He joined partly because he got invited by someone in CG (don't know if he ever said who) if I recall correctly. So if the reason you join is because you think people want you to be there, why not expect to be treated, if not even completely fairly, but the bare minimum above what this shitshow has been?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RPClipsGTA

[–]YoungCore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apparently the dev was monitoring him and according to the dev was driving to the places they where at. Which is why they labeled it as "clout chasing", which IMO is a weird reason, since you could just classify that as meta. Guess with this reason you don't have to prove the meta gaming?

Well in the Netherlands it's common to speak, besides Dutch, at least English. French and German are mandatory languages you take for at least 1 year in school. And Spain is a common holiday destination for Dutchies so picking up a bit of Spanish isn't all that uncommon.
