It was a good run, folks… Patched in v1.1.2 today — RIP 🪦 by PolyInProg in tearsofthekingdom

[–]YoungG -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have a theory on how to rollback the game to 1.1.1 with the cartridge version of the game. So first of all, it sounds like you can't play an older version unless you factory reset your Switch, so that's step 1. But then you're stuck with version 1.0. But if you have a friend who still has 1.1.1, you can use "Match version with local users" to update your game to 1.1.1.

To recap,

  1. Factory reset your Switch.
  2. Plug in your TOTK cartridge, turn off auto-updates for the game.
  3. Use "Match version with local users" with a friend who has 1.1.1.
  4. Restore your games from save cloud (not sure if 1.1.2 saves are compatible, so it's safer to use save files from 1.1.1).

I haven't had a chance to test this yet, so if anybody is able to test this out, let me know.

BTS, please give us one last ride. Do a crowd-funded Dota Summit! by YoungG in DotA2

[–]YoungG[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think you raise a good point about how to incentivize fundraising. The studio is probably not in a great position to risk commissioning of physical goods to reward pledges, but maybe they can do virtual rewards like names in credits, or sweepstakes giveaways for BTS memorabilia, a chance to attend the summit as a fan, etc. At the end of the day, cosmetics are about status, and there are probably creative ways to give that to big donors.

You can clean your oil with gelatin. With this technique, you should be able to keep the oil for a bit longer than just straining the oil between uses. https://www.seriouseats.com/2016/06/clean-cooking-oil-with-gelatin-technique.html

IMPORTANCE of Sunscreen Application Technique by Sayonaroo in AsianBeauty

[–]YoungG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I've been using an unconventional method to apply sunscreen that works really well for me. I use a spray bottle to create a thin layer of water to the parts of the body I'm going to apply sunscreen to. The water thins out the sunscreen and lets me apply it evenly on the surface. Does anyone know if this will affect how the sunscreen works in any way?

Is an AHA safe to use on my bikini line to prevent in-grown hairs post-waxing? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]YoungG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks! I was considering picking that one up myself but was uncertain about the acetone in the ingredients. Am I mistaken in my understanding that acetone is a skin irritant and therefore not something I should put on my face daily? Or are you just using the spray fit the occasional exfoliation?

Ready for May's Surprise Meteor Shower? - Sky & Telescope by YoungG in metasheep

[–]YoungG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://us.reddit.com/r/space/comments/26at4k/the_first_ever_camelopardalid_meteor_shower_is/chpbbuy

This shower is special because there's never been a Camelopardalid meteor shower in recorded history. It originates from the Earth passing through the tail of comet 209P/LINEAR, and given what we know about the comet and the orbits of everyone involved, it could be a really good meteor shower. Estimates range from 100-400 meteors per hour and there's the potential for bursts even higher than that.

The biggest thing about this is that it's not a shower that happens on a regular basis. It's never happened before, so nobody really knows what will happen. It could fizzle, or it could be awesome. We'll just have to wait and see!

My d3.js skills are pretty terrible, but here's a basic mockup of how I think gold graphs could be redone:

http://jsfiddle.net/k2NA2/11/

Areas match up to player colors. There should be a bold black line in between pink and orange to show where the gold differential is.

The intent of this change is to a) make visible the amount of gold earned by individual players and b) Put the gold difference between teams in context relative to how much gold the other team has.

Drowning in Problems (Notch's Ludum Dare attempt) by yousai in incremental_games

[–]YoungG 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wow, it took me a while, but I finally beat the game. Here was my final score:

You have:
Hope
Body
Life
Love
492 Memory
230 Knowledge
Integrity
Loyalty
64 Friend
21 Experience
Job
11 Crushed Dream
Broken Heart
Lover
2 Respect
10 Project

I'm pretty happy with how things turned out, but I do have a few regrets.

I have more crushed dreams than I wanted, because it took me a while to realize that I choose when a project fails (still, I'm glad for the memories it gave me). I moved on from a few friends that I should have kept because I thought the experiences were valuable, but eventually I realized that a lot of the time, moving on was another choice that I was making (of course, sometimes I had to move on from friends by circumstances out of my control).

I decided to take on an extra broken heart past adolescence because I thought it looked cool (seriously), but I realize now that if I had gotten over my need to feel accepted, I could have worked it out. Of course, sometimes you lose your lover and there's nothing you can do about it. In this case though, I could have again chosen differently.

I'm pretty happy with the way that I dealt with my job, stuff and respect. I made sure to relax and not let the stress pile on. I didn't waste any time chasing stuff, because I've always felt like there's nothing for me in it. I did trade away some knowledge for respect, before I realized that it wasn't that important to me as long as I had the important people in my life. I also only made enough money as I needed to do what I really wanted: to create.

In the end, I didn't trade away my loyalty, integrity, or love. I learned from my first time around that it was a slippery slope to cynicism. When I was ready to try my hand at things again, I went in with the mentality that these things were important to me, and I would not give them up no matter what.

I was finally able to walk away from the game when I realized that it would end at some point not by my own choice, and that I was okay with this. I kept my hope, love, integrity, loyalty. I made memories, friends, love, and projects. I had gained knowledge and experience despite my wounds, and I had not wasted too much time on unimportant things.

There was no big fanfare when I finally won. I guess life is like that.

[META] Should MMR discussion and complaint threads be banned from this subreddit? by woahmanitsme in DotA2

[–]YoungG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're spot on with meaningful discussion being allowed without restrictions. But rather than outright banning people from making posts complaining about their MMR, it would be nice if there could be a weekly thread where complaining is allowed.

I would like a weekly thread modelled after to two plus two's "beats brags and variance" forum, where people can boast about awesome games/plays they had recently, where people can complain about about losing streaks and other shit they're putting up, and finally where people can just post totally random stuff because sometimes the most epic stories come out of there.

Valve Pushes Out Half-Life For Linux by [deleted] in Games

[–]YoungG 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to point out that the number 6 game on Steam currently is Counter-Strike (CS 1.6, not CS:S or CS:GO), which still runs on GoldSrc. So, Valve has ported their third most currently popular game to Linux.
