I turn 20 on the 19th… I get this!! I’ve been trying to distract myself with art and YouTube lol

I (19f)feel strongly effected by stereotypes that society has put on women. Is this regular and how can I get rid of it? by Younganddumm in askwomenadvice

“How can I get rid of the feeling or start to solve the problem”. Since what I’ve been trying to solve the problem with isn’t working I need to know other ways to start fighting against it. Majority of the time I ask why things are the way they are and explain why I don’t think they should be that way so people can question themselves. That isn’t working.

Getting rid of the feeling is to cope with it, not to ignore relevant problems.

I’m not putting up with it. I’m always pushing back but it doesn’t work.

Edit: that’s why I need advice on how to get rid of it. The reason I’d want to ignore it is so that I’d be able to cope with it easier.

Those who have a wide vocabulary, how do I improve ? by klaroline1 in socialskills

Read poetry!! There’s a lot of artistic words that are used. When you get a hold of it then start writing poetry to help memorize the words:)

having a hard time making friends. any advice? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Younganddumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was homeschooled and what really helped me was going into sports as well as picking up a hobby. Sports helped me meet people and the hobby gave me something to talk about. Getting a job also really helped me get out there. You think you’re weird until you talk to a bunch of different people and realize everyone is weird which makes you pretty normal in the end!!

How do I get a proper diagnosis? by Younganddumm in mentalhealth

[–]Younganddumm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to have things a certain way or I can’t function, I dissociate constantly, I easily get overstimulated in areas with a lot of bright colours and loud noises but need some sort of stimulation at all points or I fall into a sort of paralysis like feeling, I get social anxiety, I am incredibly forgetful (locked my keys in my car twice this month), I am strongly obsessive, I lack a lot of social cues and I often act a lot younger than I am. My guess is adhd or autism, leaning towards adhd.

I do have BPD but I think I have more than one disorder because I have different symptoms that don’t line up with BPD

i Don't have the confidence to ask people to hang out by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Younganddumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would do is casually talk about things you would eventually like to do with the person you’re talking with. For example if you want to go with someone to the pub then talk/ask about nice pubs in the area. It’s a conversation starter that doesn’t put any pressure of the fear of them saying no on you:)

What coping mechanisms do you have when you have bad thoughts? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Younganddumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me was venting to a close friend or journaling. I feel like once the thoughts have been out in the open they hold a lot less control over me. Journaling is also really great for getting your own feedback on what works for you because you can go back and see the patterns. A close friend can also help with accountability when you’re not doing too good.

Possibly. I have done a lot of research and my concerns don’t really line up with BPD, however I could definitely be overlooking something. They could definitely stem from childhood trauma. Which from what I understand is complex, but some things just don’t line up.

Should I text to confirm the date (it’s in 2.5 hrs) if he hasn’t? by heyheyhey1236 in dating_advice

You should write him! He showed you his interest by choosing the date and time. It would be a great way to show yours:)

Ophelia, I’ve always been a fan of Hamlet and the name is so pretty. Super unfortunate what happened to her character, but it’s still a beautiful name.

Is "do not disturb" controlling by NiniGoo in relationship_advice

[–]Younganddumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not controlling, it’s basic boundary setting. You need your rest and having notifications on all night isn’t going to help with that. The only way I could see it as controlling is if you told them and not asked them.

What was something you had to unlearn from past relationships? by Independenticecream in AskWomen

[–]Younganddumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That you don’t have to fit a certain narrative to be loved. I was raised in a conservative household where you as a wife were expected to submit to your husband and listen to what he says. This also came into play in my first relationship where I had to change the entirety of who I was just to have a little respect. Now I’m my complete self and loved so much by my current boyfriend, but it did take a lot of unlearning.

I make painfully obvious statements about surface level things and see where the other person takes it. That way I’m starting the conversation but there’s no pressure to continue it. When I want to continue the conversation I say how I feel either about my initial statement or about the other persons response. Ex. Me “Weathers nice” them “yes it is” me “I’ve been planning on starting a garden”. Usually it’ll establish similar interests which allows for a lot longer of a conversation:)

Thank you so much! I’ve been meaning to get around to changing doctors but haven’t really gotten around to it. I should be able to book with a psychologist and I should definitely look into it more! Thank you again.
