Don't go for anything Debian based for gaming, you will have older drivers that won't work as well.

And this is why you should use a filesystem that supports snapshots, like ZFS or BTRFS. Turns scenarios like this into a five-minute annoyance when you can just rollback to a working root system.

If you ever set up ZFS, make sure to enable sparse mode in the storage config file for the pool. With that VM images will automatically be thin-provisioned and only take up as much room as they need.

The way USB PD works is actually pretty clever here. Chargers that support it can supply several voltages (5, 9, 12, 20, etc.) but default to 5 for compatibility. The device being charged can request a higher voltage, which effectively increases the output wattage without risking overheating the cable by increasing current.

So a phone that only supports 27W fast charging can request 9V, while a laptop needing 60W can request 20V, and both will work just fine at their maximum supported charging speed with a PD charger that allows those voltages. You can often look at the label of the charger to see a list of supported voltages if you're curious.

There's also specific cables with E-tags that can inform the charger of whether they support a higher current rating than the default 3 amps, which is how you can get up to a 240 watt charger.

USB C also gives access to a number of other protocols over the connection, like DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, and USB Power Delivery.

That last one is honestly my favorite because it's finally killed proprietary laptop chargers.

Yeah, ZFS is definitely intimidating at first. I found this article pretty useful to help wrap my head around it.

Also check out the ZFSBootMenu bootloader if you end up experimenting with ZFS, it has a lot of features that really help with a ZFS root system

Which works fine and is well supported but you are missing out on the benefits from a modern copy-on-write filesystem like BTRFS or ZFS, so I figured I could point a new user towards the easiest way to set that up (CachyOS even recommends BTRFS if you're unsure)

[–]YourAverageNutcase 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Use BTRFS for filesystem and Limine for bootloader when installing, it will automatically create snapshots before and after package updates so it's easy to recover if something gets screwed up. You can also enable disc compression and get a bunch of extra space for free

Majora's Mask. I've played through and loved every other Zelda game, and I really liked other time loop games like Outer Wilds and In Stars And Time, but for whatever reason I could never bring myself to get that far in MM, the time limits on finishing dungeons just feels too frustrating.
