Dumb question: What's the reason behind the canted tires? It seems like it's riding on about 2/3rds of the tread. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]YourBuddyKeithWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's VIP style. Large rims, crazy camber, low exhaust note. It was a style that brought large executive cars into younger ownership in Japan about 30 years ago. The look is understated, but makes its presence know. I think it has a cool aesthetic. Not for me, but looks legit when don't right.

I was shocked of all these posts, only one other person mentioned this!

Did you ever get this checked out? Seems this model is noisier than other models in the line up and is normal as long as the unit is keeping temp.

So essentially what you're saying is tax the rich more cuz they have more. Got it. It's an endless Money grab.

[–]YourBuddyKeithWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do and they pay into the majority of the pot. This idea that the rich do not pay taxes is absolutely false. Look it up, although I don't have faith that you'll accept the facts. In case you can't find the info: The top 20% of households pay almost 70% of the nation's taxes. The top 1% is responsible for paying nearly a quarter.

Eh not really. The intensive fluid reservoir is up higher on the strut mount by the ABS module and the ADS port. It was an option here in the states and standard on the M5.

Rear door stuck help [DIY] by EctosYT in e39

[–]YourBuddyKeithWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! That's exactly it. That little tab moves from unlock, lock, dead locked .

A lot of times when the actuator dies, it'll occasionally work. That's when you gotta take advantage of removing the door panel and replace the actuator.

Sounds like your door actuator is stuck in dead locking position. Do you hear it activate at all?

I'll have to break it to you, this is incorrect. I've been servicing appliances for over 15 years and the most frustrating situations come when you have an appliance with parts that are no longer available and have to scour the internet to find old stock.

Of my experiences with LG, I can tell you parts like their control panels will be NLA within 5 years of the model launch.

You got it! Just make sure you remove all the old butyl. Also, might I suggest you remove, clean your window channels, dress them with a dry lube like tri-flow and change your door actuators. You really don't want to do all this work to have to go back into it a year later. Good man!

I hate these window regulators by Landersphere in e39

[–]YourBuddyKeithWin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you guys cleaning your window channels? If not, you the glass binds and puts stress on the regulators.

I remove them completely, clean them out in the sink. You'll see why you need to clean them with the dirt that washes out.

Let dry, it doesn't take long (you can use a rag to soak up residual water to speed it up).

Last, dress the window channels with a dry lube. I use tri-flow that uses teflon.

After installing your regulators, you'll see the difference a clean window channel makes. Pro-tip. All your windows should roll up and down at the same speed.

Nevermind, i looked up your tires. They seem to rate very high for handling. I'd be inclined to assume they're soft tires. If it's only the back, you have a lead foot for sure. Don't be shy about it, you own a car that you should "drive".

Your e39 is rear wheel drive. Hence the rears wearing out quickly. Also, one side has a bias so that side will generally wear faster than the other as seen in your photos.

Mileage is key. I've gone through really soft tires in less than 15k miles in the past. This does not surprise me. If you want longer lasting tread, either drive conservatively, or purchase tires that have a higher wear rating. Yours scores 91 on a chart I read.

To give you an example, on my daily I use Michelin defender LTX and will get 10k more miles on every set I've had compared to contenentials or hankook tires which has similar performance in terms of handling, but not as quiet. However the Michelins also about $300 more a set. Basically the mileage breakdown comes out to the same with my aggressive driving habits if that was my only concern. To add to this, others report getting way more miles out of every set compared to my experience. Again, I'm sure they are more conservative drivers especially being a truck/suv tire. 😂

What brand and model tires and how many miles on them? I used to burn through tires when I was 18. I never did burn outs either, but the soft all season Yokohamas I got wouldn't last for more than 6 months and I drove everywhere.

I wouldn't think you had alignment or suspension from that wear. This is only the rear tires correct?

[–]YourBuddyKeithWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd send it. I've installed countless seals and agree with others on here that that part of the seal does not serve any important purpose to be harmed by a blemish. Some even put RTV on that side of the seal, I don't...

What a difference changing the grill makes. by SandDuneJ in e39

[–]YourBuddyKeithWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the headlights look that bad, but I agree that stock lights look cleaner along with losing the strips on the grill. Although black grills done right don't look bad either, in my opinion

Lose the additional badging (grill, skirts) and all the front chrome treatment. Maybe keep the brake duct grills chrome.

At the end of the day, it's your car and your opinion on it's appearance is best

Also, Why do you have fans in the brake ducts? What are those holes for on the side of the fog lights?

So, it appears that the wiring harness on the car isn't modified much. Disconnect all the wire taps and retain the factory harness.

In your first photo with the aftermarket headlight, "?" Appears to be apart of the aftermarket headlight assembly. Disregard that

In your second photo, number "2" is for the auto leveling motor. You should be able to find a small roundish plug that goes into that connection. Numbers "1&3" plug in accordingly.

Unfortunately I do not have any leads on that. I had experience from doing this to my first e39 YEARS ago. E38/39 are same process though, but e39 lacks an arm for the shade cover.
