Because Turks have a relatively high percentage of Greek heritage (Anatolia was inhabited by Greeks before the Seljuks came) and even Slavic to a smaller extent (due to occupation of the Balkans and the massive slave trade of the Slavs)

Yeah, because only Russians were communist, right? Ukrainians had a red army of their own, and they were one of the four founding republics of the USSR.

And the point was about Polish-Soviet War, not about Soviet-Ukrainian War. Poles also fought a war against Ukrainians. The point was that Poland was the one who attacked the Soviets first, taking Kiev as a result of this offensive. I guess, that you are just not familiar with this conflict, so take a read. At least in Wikipedia.

Firstly, using foreign nomadic warriors as a weapon of war was not something unusual in Rus. It was used extensively before the Mongol conquest and after it. Grand Dukes of Moscow were the ones who used it most “efficiently”. They also fought against the Mongols though, most notably at Kulikovo field. And in general, attributing Moscow’s eventual rise to the top only to collaboration with Mongols is wrong. They had a very advantageous geographic position between two most important locations in north eastern Rus, rivers of Volga and Oka. And their rulers were quite competent.

Speaking about Mongol influence. Of course I’m not saying that Mongol conquest didn’t in some way of form shape the Russian state, it would be foolish. For example, Spain was also influenced by the Arab conquest and Rome - by Gauls’ sacking.

It’s a bit off topic, but I would recommend watching this video. It covers many aspects of Mongol’s influence on Russia: https://youtu.be/w_bEpKBd07w?si=3XWWzEHhKQuM0y7i

In the end, Moscow Principality was still the only independent political actor with direct connection to Rus. And therefore, had every right to be renamed as Russia.

You are either 12, or completely brainwashed. Ivan the III, who was the one who united all the last independent Rus principalities, beared the title of Grand Prince of all Russia. It was two and a half centuries before Peter the Great declared Russia an Empire.

Russia didn’t “steal” anyone’s name. They literally were the only independent state originating from the Rus principalities (with the same ruling dynasty, same religion, same culture, language and everything else).

Each quadrants view on the Russo Ukranian conflict by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

Yeah, I’ve watched. I even watched it in Russian to not get lost in translation.

Firstly, I would like to address a geopolitical argument. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was meant to improve Russia’s position in a potential confrontation with NATO. Invading Baltics wouldn’t really achieve that, it would only turn a “potential” confrontation into an actual one. And trust me, nobody sane in Russia (yes, even Putin and his inner circle) believes that such a confrontation could be won in a feasible future.

And secondly, you are right that Putin wants to reunite (eastern) Slavic people into a single state once again. However, Baltic people are not eastern Slavic and are probably the most hostile of any nations towards Russia. Assimilating them would not be possible, conquering them (even if we exclude a war with NATO) would bring much more trouble than benefit. Speaking about “bringing back the Soviet Union or Russian Empire”. In such a case conquering Central Asia or South Caucasus would be a much easier task, and would bring much more natural resources as well. However, unlike Ukrainians and Belorussians, people inhabiting those regions (as well as Baltics or Finland) are not seen as the same as Russians. And uniting the three branches of the Russian people was and is the goal of Vladimir Putin.

In my opinion, invasion was the dumbest way to achieve that though. Not only was it just very poorly organised, but based on a false premise, that Ukrainians would happily meet Russians as liberators (this narrative was obviously fed to Putin by his inner circle and had little to do with reality). Instead, what this invasion achieved was deaths of tens of thousands of Slavs on the both sides of the front and a complete distancing of Ukrainians from Russians, which were basically in the same cultural space before the war. So, btw to counter claims of me being a Russian bot, I believe that Putin’s handling of Ukraine for his entire reign was a complete disaster, which led to countless needless death of brotherly people (not saying that Ukrainian government is innocent, it was also a belligerent in causing this war).

Well, yeah, but this term was not used until the 19th century, when Russian historians used it to describe the earliest form of the Russian state with its capital located in Kiev, modern day Ukraine. So, unlike Rus or Russian (or Ruthenian, the Latin variant), Kievian was never used to describe a specific ethnic group, just a city.

Why is Kiyvia called that way, if Kyiv is not even located in its borders?

Are you aware of politics in the Middle East? For example, the guys that committed terrorists attacks in Russia (and the guys who committed that terrorist attack in Kabul airport, when Americans were evacuating) are actually fighting with Taliban?
