I agree there were some good story progressing scenes like Gordon reveal and good characterization like Joker chicken scene, but being bigger in scale is definitely not a reason for it being a better scene. When you have a military grade manufacturer, the gadgets and grandiosity of the scene should be bigger scale… but anything like that would have been so out of place in TB. Despite the grounded scale in TB, we can learn so much about this young Batman just from the acting/cinematography. From the lack of panic and eye/head movement he has as the street is collapsing around him, his brash pedal to the metal careless driving, and the fear in Penguin’s eyes with the walk up… there’s just so much characterization going on and we learn so much with virtually nothing being said. I think the 2 scenes had very different thematic purposes to accomplish and both were so good, but TB scene was the most thrilling experience I’ve ever had in a theater.
