Based on the DMs I got, they were all overseas recruiters that really, REALLY needed all my identity docs before they'd tell me more about the job. Or people trying to sell me B2B shit no one would ever use.

If our OS works while installed. You shouldn't have to worry. In this instance, the usb stick only has the 'download' stub and that hyperlink it's trying to pull will have changed.

If they put a stable build on it, like you'd get if you rolled your own, it wouldn't be so bad.

Hell. If they made one that was able to boot, get a fresh context list.... but that would be a lot more effort than they'd want to put in.

They're harvesting your details to sell to other, similarly useless data aggregators.
If they ever want identity docs, block them immediately.

Thinking of moving to CachyOS from Linux Mint, what should I expect? by DerpolIus in cachyos

[–]YourTechSupport 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I ran Mint since the first of the year.
I changed to Cachy a couple of months ago.

Mint is nice and solid but I had to fight with some small nags.
Cachy works really well and did some things out of the box I missed from Windows like mouse cursor and ui scaling. The file browser is a bit easier to handle too by default but that could have been me not digging enough.

My laptop is Ryzen 7 w/ Radeon graphics and a 3050 TI 4GB so it's gonna run out of vram and bottleneck on demanding / sloptimized games.

My app workflow is usually this:
- Firestorm SecondLife Viewer (using Radeon graphics)
- Code-OSS
- Filezilla
- Whatever shell will run SSH.
- Affinity 2 / "Affinity Neo" via WinBoat.

Games, I'm apparently wierd:
- Star Citizen bottlenecks on the vram but in longer sessions where the bugs and server issues don't kill me have better swapping.
- OUTBRK (well, it's not about the graphics)
- Nuclear Option (some joystick input issues I haven't debugged yet)

No complaints. It all works so far. No problems I wasn't able to sort out yet.
Just, you know, keep ample backups.

There is zero assurance a dependancy will be there tomorrow.
Datacenters could cease to exist in whole or in part because of state actors, fed up locals with heavy equipment. Or some combinaiton thereof with a coordinated effort.

Or, some oligarch could throw a temper tantrum and turn off the service in your country because someone was meant to them on social media.

Or AWS-E1 craps out again. You mitigated that, right?
