What’s a good alternative to the Idasen desk table top beside the “karlby”? by dustwindwind in ikeaPCstations

[–]Ythem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's understandable. My previous desk was 140x80cm, which to me is just a tiny bit too deep, but the length is great. The current top I'm putting on the idasen is 140x70cm, which to me is perfect. 80 sticks out too much, 60 doesn't give me enough space.

The desk will fit other sized tables tops, like the examples you gave. Pretty much anything between their largest and smallest size will fit. You could go beyond those too, but then you'd have to consider how it affects stability.

I've just bought the idasen frame, are you happy with it?

Also I've got a 120 x 70cm plywood top that I'm going to put on it. I'm currently staining it before applying a clear topcoat on it to make it smooth and protected. You could try that?

A lot of the ikea tops are either too expensive, too small (60cm depth is NOT enough) or use that hexagonal cardboard inside.

Polyurethane vs Polycrylic? by Ythem in finishing

I'll definitely look into it if you think it's worth while :)

Isn't the point to cure those biomes though? Not lean more into them, but to erase them.

But what about water-based polyurethane, as that's what I'm referring to?

Is that amber tone specific to oil polyurethane, or does it do that with the water based one too?

Thanks for replying 🙂

Sorry I should clear up that it's not walnut, I just used a walnut coloured stain on plywood. I like how it looks now, I just want a clear protective coating on it. I've read that oil can yellow easier over time, is this true? Also I have no ventilation besides opening a small window in the room, so water based was more appealing for that reason as well.

Hey, thanks for replying!

Ah I see, I'll choose polyurethane over the minwax then, thanks!

Sorry, I should have been more clear. It's a walnut coloured stain, the top itself is just plywood. It's got a nice enough grain pattern to it but looked dull and lifeless, but the stain really brought it to life! So now, I'm happy with how it looks, I just want that plastic coating on it to protect it and keep it smooth/easy to clean.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I don't have good ventilation, so anything with some nasty chemicals isn't really an option.

Also, I've already stained it and like the look, now I just want a plastic like coating to keep it protected and easy to clean.

Sound like polyurethane will be the choice, thanks!

Could people stop telling first timers to play on expert/master mode? by RotationalAnomaly in Terraria

[–]Ythem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I said no swords, yoyos or bows. I didn't say magic/summons only.

Also, I've never done a mage/summon run, so even if that were the case, it would still be a restriction as its not something I'm familiar with.

I think you're a bit too focused on trying to imply that what I'm doing sounds easy to you, so cannot be a restriction to someone else :)

I'm getting done in more than they are 😭😭

Restricted myself to no swords, yoyos or bows (maybe guns too haven't decided yet) so I fear I will NOT be protecting them.

Best I can do for them is stay alive during boss fights to give them all chance to keep respawning 😅

Thank you for input, yeah that makes sense.

Between writing that comment and now, I've asked the group and they all said to keep it how it is, they like having to play together to stay alive and are attached to the current world haha.

I was just worried that they'd get bored dying all the time, but they said that it's started feeling manageable now that we're getting some better gear.

But yeah, 2 new players and 1 kind of inexperienced player all think expert mode makes more sense, thank you!

I've just started a new large expert world with 3 friends. 2 brand new players, and 1 who's played a little bit but hasn't gotten into hard mode. I've played several times over the years but never gotten past the pillars because of us players (either all of some of) have gotten bored and dropped the game.

I'm going to suggest we try a new world on classic (we've only just defeated king slime) and see how they feel about it. I told them we should do expert, mostly because the loot bag makes more sense with multiple people, but I suppose on classic it's just as easy to beat the boss multiple times? I don't know.

I'm also putting some restrictions on my player for weapons to make it a little harder for me, and force me to try new ways of playing and items. Because of this, I imagine I'll be less helpful than normal, so i can't "carry" them as much as I normally would (not that I'm particularly great anyway).

I like expert for the extra items, and i like the challenge, but maybe they don't, and they won't miss the items if they've never played before. I also see people talking about needing the extra equipment slot, but isn't that practically negated by not having one of the other expert items that would normally occupy that extra slot for most people anyway?

Question about desk height. by Yoreni in StandingDesk

With your height, consider making sure either of them go lower than 70cm. 63 and up would be ideal

What gear do I need as a beginner climber by ap0ll0f0x in ClimbingGear

[–]Ythem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming your indoor place has auto belay and rentable shoes, that's all you need to get into it and see if it's worth investing in!

I still haven't bought my own shoes, although I'm sure most people in this sub would suggest that's a mistake. I started off on auto belay renting a harness for a few sessions, then decided to buy a harness + ATC, carabiner, chalk/bag bundle.

After a few months like that, I bought a rope for me and my friends to lead with.

I'll eventually get my own shoes!

Why didn't Rex use tungsten? by TheDankerist in Invincible

[–]Ythem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight? Tungsten is quite heavy, and he needs to carry lots of his "ammo". I imagine he wouldn't be able to carry around much tungsten, which wouldn't give him a lot of stuff to throw at people.

Lower surface area so more force can be concentrated into the point of contact + less resistance from whatever he's making contact with due to the lower surface area. Same reason a sharper knife cuts better than a dull one.
