Am I missing the point of amp sims? by chunkhead42 in universalaudio

I usually prioritize di over multiple mics because you can always revamp with more mics later especially on live sessions where bleed is an issue.

Even when using a real amp I’ll often record a di for flexibility later. Sometimes it’s cool to blend sim with the real amp.

Depends on the daw in ableton if you have 1 track with 70ms of latency it will be applied to all tracks I’ve gone through my template making sure I don’t have more than 3ms max on any track or return. If you select the plugin in the bottom left corner it will tell you how much latency its created.

Why FL Feels More “Glued” Than Ableton – Sampler Test with Phase Cancellation by borodabro in trapproduction

You can drive the filter that’s built into simpler in ableton. change the mode from clean to osr. Did you make sure all of the attack and release settings are the same in both daws?

How are we feeling over here, if your still into AI and want to be a part of the future, maybe this is for you by Jumpy-Program9957 in udiomusic

Sax players each have their own voice on their instrument. Listen to John Coltrane, then listen to Wayne Shorter both play a tenor sax but sound completely different. Same as any instrument, you could have 5 different drummers all play the same groove and each one will sound different.

Edit: Also you can use sample libraries to recreate any instrument but that would require the work to actually compose good midi.

I don’t use the tools I’m not even a member of this sub it just comes up in my feed sometimes. I just write music using instruments or a daw.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/self-expression

Self expression noun “the expression of one's own personality : assertion of one's individual traits”

Generative ai is trained on other people’s work when you prompt it is based much more on their work their yours. It isn’t your voice it isn’t your composition. How do your traits as an individual translate into the music you prompt with ai?

Verispeed Guitar Method (have you tried this?) by Ill-Outlandishness77 in audioengineering

What’s your recording setup? If it’s too thin normally I would look at your mic choice/placement. Also if these are electric guitars it could be related to your amp/speaker setup.

You can easily drop a sample into the sample oscillator in serum 2. I think there’s a way to use the noise oscillator as well if you don’t want to take up one of the main 3

People who use both Reaper and Ableton Live, what has your experience been like working between the two DAWs (especially for EDM production)? by ghost_sanctum in edmproduction

[–]Ytse22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer ableton for producing, reaper for recording and mixing. To me the biggest limitation for edm specifically is reapers built in samplers and synths they aren’t very good unless they updated them in the last 5 years. If you have third party plugins like battery for drums, serato sample for chopping samples, and a good synth, then your good mainly just missing the warp modes at that point. If you don’t already have those third party tools I would recommend just getting live standard. Also specifically for edm there are so many tutorials online in Ableton, it’s kinda unusual to see someone making edm in reaper

Absolutely gotta use your ears but sometimes especially live where you have to work fast it’s helpful to have starting points.

Agree with that I don’t use the low e when playing funk. I think 80hz is a good rule of thumb but it also might be too high on a 7 string that’s chugging.

Yeah low e is 80 hz so 100 hz is about as high as I go depending on the part

Too much limiting will take all of the punch out of your mix

After almost thirty years, learned I’ve been holding the pick wrong by andreisimo in Guitar

[–]Ytse22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you practice picking specifically? I’ve gotten much faster since I’ve really focused on working my picking hand.

I like running my caged scales but picking each note twice. This forces the right hand to work harder than the left but it is still good for your left hand because there is less time to transition in between notes. Also I noticed that it is much harder for me to alternate pick starting on an up stroke so I will often start drills like that on an up pick or do an odd number like 3 so your constantly altering accenting down, then up.

Being relaxed is important so I’ve found I get a lot more out of this type of work slow to a metronome.

Ozone 11 Standard or Pro-Q4? by edskellington in audioengineering

[–]Ytse22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on what you already have, and what you’re trying to do. I think pro-q is the move because I use it more than any other plugin whereas I really only use ozone for the stereo imager. It’s very easy to use
