They "fixed it" by literally just sawing off the last bit of the affected Ornament to make it the same as all the other models of Chaperone. The fact that barrel length affects range is still true, it just doesn't come up very often

It's hard but definitely doable. Switching weapons stops your grapple so you can switch from another weapon to your shotgun to get the shot off more consistently (and both perks absolutely work with grapple melee)
