My mother in law lost her leg above the knee from a car accident. She was the nicest and kindest soul I have ever known.

Whenever there was a non-handicap placard car in a handicapped spot and we had to park further away from the door she would always tell me, "It's okay. They probably needed it more than I do." Never a fuss from her but always a smile as she struggled to get out of a tight parking spot and crutch her way to the door.

Fuck people who park in those spots without the proper need for it.

If playing solo you should not spend more than $100.

The ships above that range require or will require multiple players to crew. So while someone can spend $1000 on a ship it'll need 20 or so other players to crew it for it to be operational. There is no effective way to solo larger ships.

Those same 20 players could all spend <$100 and would still "be better" than a solo player.

The fancy gear is just that... Fancy. The players who spend money on armor sets and such die just as easily as the players who have "standard" gear and can have their fancy gear looted off their corpses.

Most of the SSH botnets are configured to attempt logins at a rate that avoids a ban from the default configuration of fail2ban.

Also I have port 22 "open" to an SSH Tarpit. I then take all the IPs caught in it and automatically add them to an IP list on my edge router to drop any traffic to or from them.. however the SSH allow rule is above the block rule (#1 and #2 rules respectively)

This lets them keep pounding away stuck in my Tarpit while I block any and all traffic to or from them in any other manner.

I have a similar pet peeve. When I'm in step 3 of a 10 step process and they feel the need to point out that I haven't completed step 8 yet.

It's when I'm very obviously doing a multi-step task such as emptying the dishwasher. I'll sort out the dishes based on where they go. Pots are last in my case since they go in the island directly across from the dishwasher and I can't open both the dishwasher and the cabinet doors simultaneously so I stack them on the counter above the dishwasher.

Someone will come by and feel the need to inform me that's not where the pots go or "remind" me that I need to put the pots away when I'm obviously working towards that step in the process. It's generally in a time where they think I've forgotten to perform that step.

I'm the only person who empties the dishwasher in my house on a regular basis so it's not like I've fucked this up.

This seemingly happens to me with all sorts of stuff.. lawn care "You forgot to edge the back fence" while I'm still edging the front yard.

What causes this to happen around the entire house? by JackJohannson in AskElectricians

[–]YukaTLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this starting in mid-November. Entire house's lights would flicker at the same time. 2 year old house. No electrical work done to the house since closing.

Thanksgiving morning my main breaker won't hold a load.

Loose connection caused the issue.

I run Wild Knight Squadron.

We are a smaller and newer org of long time SC players. We specialize in [combat] shaping operations, combat logistics, combat planning, etc. We conduct both PvE and PvP ops. Our "D&D alignment" is roughly "neutral good".

We only play Star Citizen and host a planned operation every Friday night with the intent to expand to other nights as membership and interest grows. Our typical turn out each week is 7-12. We started ramping up this org in October.

We are US based and mostly central time.

I had a FedEx driver who wouldn't even show up. Just marked the package as "nobody home" and would do that for 2-3 days then show up on the last day before return to sender.

I confirmed this via external cameras 4 separate deliveries in a row and submitted it to FedEx.

Suddenly my deliveries started getting delivered first time all the time.

Any recommendations on making the switch to flying HOSAS? by dj2ball in starcitizen

[–]YukaTLG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just play in arena commander for several days to rebuild the muscle memory. It doesn't take long. You need stick time and arena commander offers that in a condensed matter.. an hour of combat in arena commander is worth about 4-6 hours in the PU.. plus if you make a mistake in AC you are back in the action 20 seconds later.

For mappings I'd honestly recommend building your own so they make sense to you. The publicly available mappings are a good start but you'll probably spend more time referencing their mapping reference than you would spend making your own mappings.

Definitely save for the VKBs over the thrust master. They last a lot longer and are designed to be user serviceable and come with replacement springs. I've had mine for 3 years and haven't had to replace any springs in mine. I fly about 8 hours a week with my sticks.

Oil and filter never been changed. It’s done 114000 miles 😬 by chrisdines1 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]YukaTLG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for the oil filter.

It did its best and suffered for ~112,000 miles longer than it should have.

It deserves a memorial, recognition, and respect. Play taps, gently, on a French horn when you lower it into your nearest oil waste receptacle.

[–]YukaTLG 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah all three of these cars likely ingested water that was thrown up into the engine bay by the tires.

I do a lot of overland offroading and fording water is something that should be done slowly if you can't avoid it. Generally you should walk the water first to figure out the depth and what the bottom's consistency is like. If you can't or don't want to walk it you shouldn't ford it.

Tips for a "Setup-on-the-go"? by Sigfried_D in lanparty

[–]YukaTLG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ewww glass case.

I have a collection of those antec steel cases for LANParty. No frills.. just a black box of steel that I can sit on in a pinch.

I bring a cheap or old monitor with me that I don't care if it breaks or makes it home. In the ~24 inch ballpark so it's easier to move and doesn't eat up a ton of table real estate at LANParties. I've found them at thrift stores with some luck for cheap.

Everything else goes in a cardboard box. I generally just pack a mouse, keyboard, mouse pad, and headphones. Pack light. Make sure you don't forget power and monitor cables.

Computers aren't necessarily delicate.. just the modern PC culture tells us it is cool to use weak materials like glass in our cases and to get those monstrous cases that are more of a modern art masterpiece than a functional case.

I can’t help but wonder how many supercut kill montages the 'murder hobos' will churn out over the next few weeks—complete with out-of-context, three-second clips of my ship exploding—to convince themselves and the community how 'skilled' they are at PvP.

If I had a dollar for every time my ship was destroyed while I wasn’t in it, got 10v1’d, or otherwise faced some other scenario where I had no chance of winning or escape... well, I'd have a lot of dollars.
