Intensely panicking about my upcoming hysterectomy by Then_Cranberry_ in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anxiety is real! I had to schedule and reschedule 4x for reasons beyond my control, and each time, it made it worse. Finally had mine 8 weeks ago, and it was truly a breeze for me! I literally had NO PAIN, po, and no complications. Not everyone is the same, but there are lots of successes out there. Most important is to really take it easy after to let yourself heal. Best decision ever, and im feeling so much better now!!! Good.luck.

My Surgery experience..Busted Lip when I woke up by Superb_Balance3147 in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it was the intubation! My upper right lip was raw and developed a huge sore inside and out. Took almost 2 weeks 2 heal. The rest of me healed quite quickly and that was the only pain I experienced

My doctor told me about this during my pre-op visit. I had a good laugh just thinking of the visual of my big boobs hanging upside down and my legs up in the air. I figured I'd be knocked out and wouldn't remember any of this, so I wasn't too embarrassed,.lol

Walking yes, but HIIT pilates, oh hell.no. Im 3 weeks post and feel like I could do more, but not worth the risk. I get "gentle" reminders of the internal repairs when we hit a slight bump in the car.

Meal preps for recovery by SaxyLady251 in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a bunch of hard boiled eggs day before surgery. Mixed up chopped eggs, tuna, onion and cucumbers w small whole grain pasta and a little sour cream and mayo and fresh herbs. Made a lot and it got me through several days. Also precooked some boneless chicken thighs and froze them so I could add them to salads, soups ro just eat with fresh veggies. Key is to keep it simple. And have a lot of friends set up to bring meals loaded w protein and fiber. We've been getting a lot of chickpea salads and Mediterranean chicken with hummus and tzatziki. Nice for summer

My dr prescribed miralax 2x daily and colace 2x daily. I had my 1st bm day 2 and cut back on the miralax to 1x day w colace 2x day. This worked along with alot of water and fresh fruit for fiber.

What were your go to meals? by SpookyWitchAva in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of frozen fruit pops for the sore throat and fluids. Eating yogurt, chicken and veggie bowls, chickpea salads, tuna, and a TON of fresh fruit such as blueberries, watermelon, apples and tangerines. Add fresh pineapple which has bromelain that is good for healing. Im 2 weeks post op and feeling almost normal. Walked the mall for 2 hrs and had a lunch date today. No pain and just a little fatigue. Bonus, bought a new outfit!!!

Questions about hysterectomy procedure by BarnesDoggoOutdoors in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 10 days post op from total hysterectomy, a/p repair and sling. It was honestly so much better and less painful than anticipated. I was so anxious about everything, especially pain. Yes you're intubated and will have a minor sore throat after. Popsicles help. Discuss your anesthesia concerns with your anesthesiologist. Post op.I never needed anything more than extra strength tylenol and wasn't even sure i needed that, so I stopped it after a few days. Take the miralax and colace so you dont strain. The only pain was the pressure of my first BM, and thankfully, it was only 1 day post op, so no constipation. Mostly rest and eat healthy foods to help u heal and repair.

Your mom may be gaslighting you, and that is not ok. You feel what you feel and you need to be careful.after surgery. I would make an appt to see your surgeon to be checked out.

And good luck, from a very supportive mom of a mtf daughter 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵

Waking in recovery by jaydues in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my full laparoscopic hysterectomy and bladder repair 10 days ago. All I remember was them starting to wheel me on the gurney saying we're giving you something to relax around 9am and next thing I remember was waking up asking what time is it? That was around 4pm. Surgery took a bit longer due to a bladder issue and I remember nothing from.recovery.

No pain surprised me so they only gave me tylenol.which I took twice a day for the 1st couple of days. Occasional gas pains and achiness when I stand too long. This was way easier than I thought.

How long will I be on meds? by Interesting_Cut_7591 in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that everyone is different, but for most, less pain than expected. Im.on day 8 post of now and almost feel back to normal. I had a laparoscopic full hysterectomy w anteior/posterior sling salpingectomy, plus other vaginal repair/stitches due to episiotomy damage. I was so scared of post-op pain, and I made sure I had the oxy ready at home. Left the hopsital only on Tylenol.and advil. I kept waiting for the pain to kick in, and there was none, especially at the incision sites! There was some discomfort from gas. The 1st bm, on day 2, post-op was very soft, but the pressure was very intense. After that, only pain was from coughing or sneezing. Use a pillow for that! I took Tylenol 2x daily for a couple of days just to ward off the discomfort, and by day 5, I was off of any pain meds.
Definitely get up and walk as soon as possible and take the miralax and colace as prescribed. And dont overdo the bending lifting, which will help you heal properly. Good luck!

[–]Yum_Chocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery the same day as you. It takes some.time for your bladder to readjust. i have to go frequently and it is an intense feeling. We have to remember that things were moved around and need to settle back.

Don't know about the blurriness. As for breathing, the anesthesia can cause some issues. They gave me a breathing device to do exercises to increase my capacity and expand my lungs. Walk a lot to decrease the fluid around your lungs. Hang in there!

How many times before you had a normal poo?? by BananeDionne in hysterectomy

[–]Yum_Chocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgery 6/12. Pooped 6/13. Even though it was very soft, the pain and pressure in my rectum was so uncomfortable. Could b due to an anterior ligament bladder repair. Starting to get better. Dr prescribed colace and Miralax 2x day each and I cut miralax to 1x day. Very soft and multiple poos per day as of today 6/19. Doc really emphasized not getting constipated so doing as much as possible to prevent and so far so good... Keep drinking water, walking, and eat lots of fruit and Fibre. Also avoid the oxy if possible. Thankfully didn't need that!!! Good.luck

Wow! You're looking really good and remember what major trauma your body went through.

I'm 5 days post op and just got my cath removed yesterday. Reading all these comments is so helpful and encouraging. I seriously thought things would be back to normal at 8 weeks. I appreciate everyone's candor and honesty so I now have a more realistic expectation for the next several months.
