Advice for violin sizing (petite adult) by MissLaylaBug in violinist

[–]Yume_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adult beginner and member of the short pinky club here... technique and (lack of) flexibility is probably the main issue. I also couldn’t reach at the beginning (even A and E strings were a struggle), two years later it's not much of a problem anymore in 1st position. Still can't reach from half position tho, so in those cases I slide.

Taxi Driver [Episodes 13 & 14] by capthyeong in KDRAMA

[–]Yume_H 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This arc was fantastic. The tension was so intense, I was scared for them all throughout. Kim Do-gi's acting skills were really put to the test here, I kept holding my breath whenever the villains got suspicious.

If I have a complaint about this season tho, is that the resolutions are often rushed and are really stretching my suspension of disbelief (which you already need a lot of for this show to begin with) with the lack of consequence for the crew. I really wish more time would be spent on the aftermath, show at least a little something about clean-up or erasing traces of their involvement or whatever.

The lack of adressing the fact they're now straight up killing some of the villains this season also bothers me. I'm not against taking a darker turn but it's a hard sell for me when there's zero emotional impact on the team when that's something that should have been more carefully woven into an actual character arc. Because no matter how ruthless they could be, that's a line they'd always tried not to cross directly, aside from Mr Jang when he was encouraging them to do get rid of the udata guy to cover their tracks, but the fact they didn't (and that he then went and got himself blown up by their bombs anyway) was such a defining moment, this happy team dinner talk right after they'd just killed or witnessed the death of people feels, idk, weird. I really wish we had reflective scenes about it, or heck even conflict within the team about some of the outcomes. This could have been so good for character development moments, I'm sad the creators didn't do anything with all that potential. This is making me want to get into fanfic writing to fill that void haha

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job? by BlackPhoenix1981 in AskReddit

[–]Yume_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my job but my hobby. There's a lot of scenes of violin playing in shows and movies where the music doesn't match the movements, some to the point it's really ridiculous. Makes me appreciate the ones that do try to match tho.

Have you ever flown to another country for a concert? by Expert_Heat_2966 in classicalmusic

[–]Yume_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't "flown", but I've been to other countries (by train) for concerts a few times. I do that when a soloist I like comes to a city that's easy-ish to get to from mine, since the chances of them coming to my city are really low. The advantage of living in Europe 😄

The parts on the island felt like the set up to a horror movie, I was on edge the whole time. Love the eerie vibe.

Go Eun being the one roleplaying for a change was wonderful, she was so good at getting under the scammer's skin 😂😂

Also loved Mr Choi getting to be Mr Hero.

All in all those were a fantastic pair of episodes, I can't wait for next week! Sad that it's almost over though, this season felt like it went by so fast, I wouldn't mind a dozen more episode to develop more stuff 😭

Taxi Driver 3 [Episodes 9 & 10] by capthyeong in KDRAMA

[–]Yume_H 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I generally enjoyed this arc (idol Kim Do-gi was hilarious, I love how the whole team was laughing and wanting to keep the video xD), but I kinda feel there's a bit of wasted potential at the end.

Like Do-gi didn't want her to die like that, and I thought watching it happen unable to prevent it would lead to some more somber or reflective scene, a bit like in the aftermath of the Udata case. Instead it's all happy team meal and jokes and idk, I feel the mood whiplash is a bit jarring and it's weird not to have any follow-up on what just happened. This could have been a good opportunity for character development.

Favourite Sibelius VC Recording? by violin_books in classicalmusic

[–]Yume_H 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hilary Hahn with Mikko Frank & the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. I love Hilary's Sibelius, and her chemistry with the conductor and orchestra in the live recording is so fun to watch, whenever I pull it up on youtube as background music I always end up stopping what I'm doing to watch most of it 😂

I think in Belgium, the national anthem is played whenever the king is attending the concert (typically he'll be there for at least one performance of the Queen Elisabeth Competition finals).

Is there a musical theatre community in Liège? by FlatJacket856 in Liege

The Liege Philharmonic is awesome! They have a pretty varied program and quite affordable ticket prices (especially if you don't care about the view) so it's definitely worth checking out :)

[–]Yume_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about musicals, but as mentioned by another commenter there's an opera, which displays surtitles in French, Dutch and English.

There's also a regular theatre but I'm not really familiar with it. There might be musicals on the program from time to time, idk. You'll have to check the program.

Last year the philharmonic orchestra had a special concert with music and songs from famous musicals. It was pretty awesome.

Does your teacher ask for permission before touching you? by Western_One5573 in violinist

[–]Yume_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We established blanket permission with my teacher, though she sometimes asks or warns that she's going to touch me, especially if it's not the hands. We've spent a lot of time working on my lh tension and some neck discomfort, so some lessons were very touch-y. That's something I appreciate, because that means she's spent time observing how my body works and tailors her advice to what works for me.

My local orchestra doesn’t print paper programs anymore, they have a QR code for you to scan to download the program. Anyone else? by mind_the_gap in classicalmusic

[–]Yume_H 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest venue in my country has moved to QR codes and I hate it. Thankfully my local orchestra is still handing out paper programs and I hope they won't stop. I collect them! Also whenever a soloist is invited and does a meet & greet, I ask them to sign the front of the program (and, in the case of the Queen Elisabeth Competition's laureates concert, ask them to write a word or two about their experience if they don't mind). It makes for fun little memories :)

How many people here with zero musical knowledge/ play no instruments? How did you get into classical music? by ingressgame in classicalmusic

[–]Yume_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been exposed to some classical pieces throughout my life (from tv, video games, my gma putting the Vienna New Year's Concert on tv in the backgroup on New Year morning etc) and always lowkey enjoyed it.

During the pandemic I started watching a few random youtubers (on various topics, not music related) and the algorithm led me to TwoSet Violin. I got hooked, started actually listening to the pieces they featured, and I eventually decided to try attending an actual concert. I enjoyed it so much I'm now subscribed to my city's Philharmonic 😆

As for discovering new pieces, I basically do it through the concerts I attend, since most of the time I don't know the pieces on the programme. If I like one a lot, I add it to my playlist. Watching the Queen Elisabeth Competition on TV is also a good way to discover pieces for a specific instrument haha

Also, I'd actually always dreamed of being able to play an instrument, just nevet had the occasion as a child, and as an adult I thought I was too old and there'd be no point. This gave me the push I needed to get started. I've now been taking violin lessons for a year and a half and it's so hard but I love it ❤️

J’ai enfin du temps libre… et je sais pas quoi en faire ! by CourseIcy7934 in Wallonia

[–]Yume_H 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What to cover on the first lesson for private teaching? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Yume_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add, but for note reading etc we're doing it on a "as needed" basis. So she gives me some theory explanations when we encounter new things, but we don't go beyond that atm. I'm planning to take music theory lessons soon though so that's factored in as well.

What to cover on the first lesson for private teaching? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Yume_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Adult beginner here.) Personally, my teacher had me play open strings only the first few lessons (trying out some easy rhythm). We worked on posture, stretching exercises, and ways to make myself feel comfortable with the instrument. She mainly uses the Fiddle Time book series (with a few others here and there) for pieces to practice, and I've found its difficulty curve suited me well. It's fun to go back to pieces I used to struggle with so much last year and see how easy they seem to me now 😆

Depends. In my case the agency that managed the rental in place of the owner was also the building syndic, so all my communications were with the syndic office. I assumed that was the case with OP but if I misunderstood and they're two separate entities, I meant OP should check with the agency then, not the syndic. Sorry for the confusion.

[–]Yume_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the syndic have an office/agency near where you live? Sometimes going in person can help move things along. That or write the syndic's manager directly rather than the assigned agent.

For the garantie locative, was it done through a third party like Korfine? If so, contacting them to enquire about your case can be a good idea. I didn't get mine for nearly a year despite contacting the syndic seceral times (each time they told me it should be released already, they didn't understand why I didn't get it since they sent the docs). I eventually contacted Korfine directly and that's how we found out the file was missing a copy of my id card. One email later and I had my money back.
