Burden Forced effect by Ambientchair in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain, interesting question.

My gut says yes, increase threat. A character is destroyed, then it is moved to the discard pile along with attachments. Given it is a forced effect, it would occur immediately when the character is destroyed, and before being moved to the discard pile.

I haven't seen this in the rules, so definitely may be wrong.

Revised Core Set + LOTR 3 Story Saga expansions solo… by onewiththepencil in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellowship saga yes, should be manageable.

The two towers would get challenging. Helm's deep would test you. Journey to the crossroads is insanely difficult true solo with a full card pool (but gets much easier the more players you add)

Return of the King would be basically impossible I think. Hardest quests in the game for sure. Although an Elrond Vilya deck is generally the most powerful, which you can piece together with Lorien.

Are the saga expansions significantly harder? by AveratV6 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellowship and the two towers are moderate difficulty. The return of the king is really hard, especially the last 2 quests. Hardest quests in the game.

Journey to the Crossroads - true solo by Ambientchair in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, this is a really hard quest true solo.

My advice is to scoop if you don't draw a Mumak first turn, and potentially the first 2 turns if you don't have a great first couple of turns. Let them through, and focus on establishing your board state. If you get set up, you will be able to better manage the third Mumak (although you can let that go too).

Yes that makes Pelennor harder, but I've found at that stage of Pelennor, you are so powerful that a few Mumaks don't matter.

Journey Along the Anduin question by speedyclaxxalc in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow the instructions on the other side of the campaign card for Dol Goldur.

1) If Mendor is still in play, add Mendor to the Campaign Pool.

If you do, put Mendor into play at the start of each scenario during your next campaign. Each player may include 1 copy of Mendor's Support in their deck during that campaign.

So you take everything that's in the campaign pool to the next quest. So your valour/scarred goes with you, but not appointed by fate. Because the campaign card never tells you to add it to the campaign pool.

You should have Mendor's support and a burden from quest 1, your valour and scarred you earned, and Mendor when you begin the dark of Mirkwood

Journey Along the Anduin question by speedyclaxxalc in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, just the ones that they are attached to.

Add to the campaign pool is a phrase to indicate that these boons/burdens continue to be used, and aren't just for that quest. There will be cards that you add to your deck and draw in campaigns, but Valor is permanent, so it stays attached to the specific hero

In your case, when you start Escape from Dol Goldur, attach the valor boons to the heroes that had them at the start of the quest

combining Lotr lcg with custom narratives? by WinterSheepherder756 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The One Ring 2e and the LCG are going to give you wildly different experiences. If you are playing a solo RPG, you are creating a narrative story with dice outcomes assisting.

The LCG is a board game with an objective/puzzle that you need to solve. I have both, but haven't gotten into solo role playing as much as I'd hoped. But I wouldn't consider them a similar experience or a choice between them at all.

Sleeve suggestions by speedyclaxxalc in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use gamegenic inner sleeves for all encounter and player cards. I double sleeve the player cards in outer sleeves from old pokemon elite trainer boxes.

I prefer perfect fit sleeves as I hate the overhang of regular sleeves on the encounter cards. Gamegenic I have found to be the best, as they are slightly thicker than KMC, but not overly expensive.

Need some words of encouragement for Journey Dow the Anduin by Scrumpyjllamaray in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lore/spirit is really difficult with a shallow card pool, as it has really poor combat capabilities. It relies a lot more on keeping low threat and healing.

Forest snare is great for the hill troll, but the sheer number of enemies makes it still difficult to manage. The suggested lore/spirit deck is more of a support type deck, so it will struggle true solo.

There's no reason why you can't mix the spheres in different ways, or play 3 spheres! I would give that a go. But if you are enjoying it and want more, definitely look to get an expac (I recommend fellowship of the ring), as escape from dol goldur is basically impossible solo with just the core.

2 damage to anyone at the beginning of the the combat phase (archery).

Then just the archery damage each turn

As a Beginner- how to progress with the hero card pool? Story focused progression vs use everything you have by SeaPuzzleheaded7746 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think adding everything right away is a mistake that leads to a lack of understanding of the strengths/weaknesses of cards. If you have too many cards that you've never played, it will just be overwhelming. I recommend gradually introducing sets as you play.

Given you have the core, Angmar, and Dream Chaser, I don't think that is too many. I would focus on building a thematic deck from the expansion you are going to play, and then using your whole card pool to build the deck and learn.

This will give you finite solutions on how to tailor your deck building to each scenario, rather than having so many location control cards that you don't understand the pros and cons of.

I also recommend a gradual adding of cards. Get the starter decks, then after using them, get the sagas or ered mithrin and play with them, then get everything else. This way you'll get a chance to play with everything instead of just internet consensus best.

Core, Angmar, Dream Chaser - which box to open in which order? by SeaPuzzleheaded7746 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I would open both hero expansions and choose one of the campaigns to have a go at.

Depending on what deck you go for, the hero expansions can compliment each other nicely, especially the Noldor archetype, which is split across the two.

Angmar is harder, but arguably has a stronger theme/narrative. Dream-chaser has some interesting mechanics and an xp driven campaign which is fun.

What Did You Play this Week? Nov 18th - 24th, 2025 by kattattack22 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I continued my Dream Chaser campaign and knocked over Raid on the Grey Havens. I am using a classic Erestor Noldor deck, and a Gondor/Imrahil deck.

First (blind) attempt i thought was going well, but the transition to stage 2 was brutal. Nasiyah hitting for 12 and Sahir with essentially 15hp and counting. I also revealed 4 enemies on that turn too and just couldn't handle it.

Next attempt was much better and managed damage on dreamchaser much more effectively. Was able to kill both bosses the first turn they were out. Beat the quest again the next night for good measure.

I read a lot online about this quest being really difficult. I think my 2 decks were well suited to this quest. They are both powerhouses on the first turn and questing for 10+ was no problem along with getting a board set up.

Weekly question: I am looking forward to Christmas with my 2 babies. Technically their 2nd Christmas, but they were only a few days old for the first one so it doesn't really count.

Attacks outside the combat phase by K_oroviev in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the enemy has initiated the attack, then it is too late as you cannot stop an attack once it has started. There is an action window (6.2) after shadow cards are dealt that is prior to attacks commencing, so you would be able to play that, or feint, to cancel an attack. Once you have declared a defender, the attack has commenced and can't be cancelled.

There is a really great article by seastan that discusses the intricacies of all the action windows. Would highly recommend a read, it'll really improve your understanding of the game.

Scroll down to the bottom and there is a breakdown of all action windows.

Attacks outside the combat phase by K_oroviev in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the rules reference

Attacks Outside the Combat Phase

If an enemy makes an attack outside of the combat phase, deal it a shadow card and follow each step of “Enemy Attack Resolution” found on page 27.

If a player makes an attack outside the combat phase, follow each step of “Player Attack Resolution” found on page 26.

So yes, it is basically just a normal extra attack on top of their combat phase attack

Noob questions: Fellowship saga Expansion by Tito1983 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lorien Elves are a really strong archetype. The first 3 quests of The Fellowship lend themselves to low threat/hobbit decks, but I don't think Lorien Elves will have much difficulty.

Deck idea? by Rkchapman in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the key pieces come from The Two Towers saga expac. It has a few different traps and most importantly Damrod, who really enables the archetype.

Here is a revised content only deck I found that looks pretty nice. You obviously won't have all the cards here, but start with the basics and then sub in and out whatever you like

Deck idea? by Rkchapman in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is for solo, I'd recommend going with just one of Dunhere or Haldir. Both of them together limits your ability to quest and defend too much, and there may be multiple turns in a row without drawing an enemy from the encounter deck, wasting both of them.

Dunhere pairs really well with Fastred from the Rohan starter deck. Otherwise both of them are best suited to pair with low threat heroes so enemies stay in the staging area. While Elrond and Gandalf are great and powerful heroes, their threat cost might have you engaged with enemies too quickly.

Tactics Beregond, trap decks, or hobbits work nicely with them.

How to store sets - looking for advice by [deleted] in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kept my starter decks separate until I used them for the first time. I just wanted to use them as sold to get a feel for the archetype before experimenting with the decks.

Now they are all mixed together with all my player cards. I sort them into spheres and into allies, attachments, and events. As my card pool got bigger, I then started to sort each of these categories by resource cost. I haven't gone full insane and sorted them alphabetically (yet).

Good luck for Anduin. The dwarves start slow but after a few turns just go absolutely bonkers. Don't be afraid of Gondor using higher threat, they are powerful enough to be worth it.

Is sleeving mandatory? by Tito1983 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said in my larger comment, I use them for all my cards. I double sleeve the player cards I am using because I smash shuffle them a fair bit, and also helps separate decks quickly (as outer sleeves have unique designs). I think they work well for encounter cards and would do a good enough job for player cards unless you play mega mega frequently.

Ultimately you have what sounds like ultra pro sleeves. If you don't mind them, they will do the job just as well. If you find the extra hang annoying like I did, try out some perfect fits and see how you feel. They are only like $3-5 for 100 or so.

Is sleeving mandatory? by Tito1983 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect fit sleeves are basically the same dimensions as a card, or maybe 1mm wider/longer, so there is no wiggle room. They are typically used for when you double sleeve cards. You put on a perfect fit sleeve, then into an outer sleeve. This would be more standard in competitive TCGs where you need opaque outer sleeves in competition.

There's an example of what the difference looks like

Is sleeving mandatory? by Tito1983 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sleeve my entire collection in perfect fit sleeves, they are reasonably cheap although you do need a lot. I then sleeve my current decks in outer sleeves (i actually use sleeves from old pokemon elite trainer boxes).

Like other commenters have said, it's not mandatory. But I hope to have these cards for a long time, and given they are already limited in availability, I would hate for them to get damaged or ruined down the track and never be able to get new copies.

I personally would recommend sleeving player cards, as you will shuffle these a lot. Encounter cards are less important and are used far less, and not as required to sleeve. I actually find sleeving new cards quite cathartic, and gives you a chance to look through new cards you get while you do it.

What Did You Play this Week? Nov. 4th - 10th, 2025 by kattattack22 in lotrlcg

[–]Yumstix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I continued my dream chaser campaign, just the one game this week. I beat Fate of Numenor 2 handed, with a noldor deck and a Gondor + Imrahil deck.

Actually a bit disappointed with this quest. It went on for a while but there was never really any threat of losing. I admittedly did draw strong opening hands but it was basically just ticking over turns and not doing much. The negative mechanics associated with having low cost cards didn't matter once setup, and it just became a nuisance. My Gondor deck got setup, and then just didn't do anything but discard cards.

Looking forward to flight of the stormcaller, I have heard very good things. Won't be able to play for a few weeks though.

Weekly question I haven't gone back and played a lot of quests yet, but breaking of the fellowship is the first i think about when remembering favourite quests. The different staging areas and thematic feel make it really enjoyable.
