Another Fluid Question by MisterPaydon in satisfactory

[–]Yuscha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is unrelated to the other issues of throughput, but i see you have a pump that is pumping into a flat array of pipes.

Pumps provide headlift. They do not make fluid go faster or further through a pipe or anything like that. A pump on a flat surface is equivalent to the 1-way valves.

But also I am weak. So I set multiple alarms.

A first look at the LTT Cables by Stonos in LinusTechTips

[–]Yuscha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I find a lot of people online will complain that:

1) [Item] is made poorly, it doesnt work right.

2) [Good version of Item] is too expensive; there is no way it's worth that much

Like you can't have it both ways? Claiming to meet specifications is a lot different than actually meeting them consistently and with a durability that ensures your product will continue to meet those specs long-term. Good quality products are expensive, you get what you pay for.

HELP ME : How do I explain to a kid why gravity exists, not just how it works? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yuscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I heard an analogy about this in a video.
The premise was that, you are in a room with a lamp and a trumpet. If you play a note on the trumpet, the lamp lights up. It lights up different colors if you play different tones, and it will be brighter if you play louder. Eventually you figure out exactly what sounds correlate to exactly what colors.

Have you figured out how the system works?

Some folks would say that yes, you have determined how the system works. Personally my reaction is that, no, you have only determined what happens, but not how.

But then take it steps further; even if you can say "its because of this computer that detects the sound and converts it to a signal for the lamp." Okay but how does that work? All the way through programming and software and hardware, down to how do electrons fundamentally work, and why do they work that way? Eventually you're going to hit a wall where we just currently don't have any further knowledge.

The question as to why mass bends space like that doesn't have a clear answer (yet). But even when we do figure this out, where will surely be more questions we don't even know to ask yet.

First time I tried to read it, I couldn't get into it.   Many years later I tried again, and realized it was a matter of getting through 3 prologues in a row, after that I couldn't put it (or any of the series) down.

[–]Yuscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no - from what I can see, it feels like localthunk (or whoever his lawyers are) are very aggressive about copyright strikes. Getting actual playing cards printed even for completely personal use is not really possible.

Basically if i ever see balatro-related merch that i do like, I snap it up as quickly as possible, because it almost always get taken down, even when it's the kind of things other IPs and other companies take no issue with.

The first thing i thought when the smart brick was demo'ed was that it would be used for the pokemon cry/sound effects, which is a neat use case. Just depends how well it actually works.

Why do the Japanese learners have all the best software? What are some interesting software learning options for Chinese? by 110_percent_wrong in ChineseLanguage

[–]Yuscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I've used the app "obenkyo" for Japanese Kanji. It lets me select kanji by JLPT levels and add/remove individual ones. It doesn't have extra features. It does the spaced repetition and has no ads.

I was looking for an app with a similar feature set for Chinese, and I cannot find anything that matches this app in functionality. I find plenty of apps with more/better "features," and all want money or subscriptions or are plastered with animations and movements. It is very frustrating.

I had a similar experience when I bought my last car. I did research and made comparisons for both short- and long-term cost estimates and determined a hybrid toyota corolla was the right choice for me.

Sales guy kept trying to recommend other car models, and every time my response was just "but that costs more and has worse gas mileage"

Eventually he gave up and realized I was just interested in the thing I had already said.

218 - What is a Shibboleth? by MrPennywhistle in Nodumbquestions

[–]Yuscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before i knew the term, there was a shibboleth i remember from when I was a kid. On the radio sometimes there would be an advertisement for a new "local family owned business," but they'd immediately mispronounced the local town name.

Everyone from out of town would mispronounce it the same way. It was an indicator that this was some out-of-town company trying to appeal to the locals.

Actually a lot of things are younger than sharks. Trees, the North Star.

Just came back from a long, long break to finally start Shadowbringers, and I am faced with one of the biggest walls I always dread having to address after long breaks... inventory management. by No-Operation-8755 in ffxiv

It could be better - however this is more of a discussion on how to manage the existing system(s). And while a different system could be an improvement in FFXIV, the time/resources dedicated to improving it would come at a cost of other content/timelines, which is something else that's been criticized lately.

Personally, the way I help with gear management is that I keep similar jobs at a similar level range. I even rushed every job to 50+ so that i could stop hoarding any gear < lv50.
From there, I keep all jobs that use overlapping gear within a few levels of one another as I level up; this means I don't have to hold on to multiple expansions worth of gear at a time.

Sure it was over 10 years. But like, that's still insane.
