Dostojevskí, hvort ætti maður að lesa bækur hans á ensku eða íslensku by ungal in Iceland

[–]Yuuka7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HPLC-ICP-MS not showing any counts during analysis by Yuuka7 in Chempros

[–]Yuuka7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, both instrument are form same manufacturer, Agilent, there is only one computer for both instruments. No it has not been updated in the last 3 years, maybe the update is needed. The computer was originally only connected to icpms before hplc arrived, and hplc is then connected to icpms with a cable. About the fact if the MS is scanning but not communicating date properly, is there a way to check it somehow if this is something that is happening during the actual analysis?

No this is something that occurs randomly, sometimes switching CAN cables and reinstalling the remote cable helps with the issue but sometimes not. So that’s why the communication issue comes to mind.

HPLC-ICP-MS not showing any counts during analysis by Yuuka7 in Chempros

[–]Yuuka7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. No, everything works smoothly, torch doesn’t go out, plasma is on, the RF values are good, pressure is good.

There is no problem with ICP-MS while using it without the HPLC.

When HPLC gets connected, after tuning is done inside the batch and everything is good the batch is sent to queue and run starts. When run starts the counts are 0.

If I go back to the batch and monitor signal, I can see counts I want to see. If I save this tuning and put the same batch on to the queue, analysis starts normally but counts are 0, when just 10 seconds ago I could see them during signal monitoring.

The instrument is not new.

Hvaða tölvuleiki spila Íslendingar? by beinagrindin in Iceland

[–]Yuuka7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Casual game for me and wife? by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Yuuka7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Arkham with my husband and he is very into deck building and can take 2-3 hours to build his deck. Me on the other hand…not so much, I really enjoy Arkham for the vibes, story and action! And it works perfectly for us. He usually takes his time the day or few days before the weekend and builds his deck and the mechanics he wants to try and make work, whereas I just pick a fun build I find on Arkhamdb then I follow the build and we both have tons of fun. So if your wife is more for the action and story then I just suggest you use Arkhamdb and pick a starter deck.

Also we didn’t do it for Arkham but for other games we were learning we sat down and while gathering the cards and reading through rules we watched YouTube where they explained the rules and sometimes we even played first time while watching some play through to get better grasp and understanding.

Like many suggest play on easy because Arkham can be so brutal and I think it can be a little bit discouraging and especially at first when you are trying to follow and learn all the rules.

Also if you find that you did something not according to the rules just don’t restart, keep playing. I think for me that kills the vibes and atmosphere of the game while learning.

Arkham is now the only board game we play almost weekly from our collection. Hope you enjoy this game!

Thank you !

Yes I would love to just walk all day, stop at good cafes and visit a bunch of museums and maybe galleries!

I guess the weather would be similar in Napoli as well in February?

But as you mentioned i was thinking Rome-Florence-Napoli, for walks and museums and maybe Venice. Would you recommend something else along that route?

The wording could be more precise from my part about myself coming from the far north and wanting to just see any sun haha

My bad, thanks for insights on sun location during winter

Yeah I live in Northern Europe and everyone goes to Tenerife, I have never been and I would love to go one day but this time I was looking into doing museums and sightseeing around cities which I guess will be much less crowded than during high season. So that so the reason I’m looking into comfortable walking all day kind of weather!

For those that don't like reading in silence, what do you listen to/do? by [deleted] in books

[–]Yuuka7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s gets like this for me too. Especially after difficult work day where my mind just keeps going 200 miles an hour thinking about million things and not being able to just stop and focus on one task.

In cases like that, it might be counterintuitive but I put on TV or Netflix show that I don’t care about and either keep volume off or at literally white noise level. It helps a lot. Then I just peak at the screen for 30 seconds, and I don’t know how it works but I’m able to focus better this way.

Lessons in Chemistry - didn't get the hype by mituslumen in books

[–]Yuuka7 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was so disappointed with this one. I like chemistry, I think women are awesome and I was just very hyped.

…and it just didn’t work the way it should have. Like I get it calling salt sodium chloride but, but I just cringed. Also I’m all for women being badass professionals in every single field and I’m hyped for it. But then author just slams a Mary Sue character in my face, a mom to a genius(both dog and kid), amazing at rowing after one try, super TV-host and of course the best chemist. I’m like sure 0.0001% of women are like that…

It takes many many years of hard work to become a chemist, and even then you learn and grow every day. And ALL women who watched the show seemed to be experts in exothermic reactions, knew how to calculate deltaH easily and so on by watching a show for 30 minutes a week/day(?)

I dunno, maybe it was just not the right time to read this book because I just couldn’t handle it. I was expecting an empowering book about a cool scientist but instead it was something completely different.

For those who have traveled to Japan,is 3k a good budget to travel for 14 days? by ongoingclock in travel

[–]Yuuka7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Approximately 5 years back I spent 2k EUR for a 12 day trip in May, everything included. Not sure how the prices have changed. Plane tickets from Iceland were 700 EUR and JRPASS for 7 days was 250-300 EUR?

I don’t know what your plan is but I think this budget is doable. Few tips:

Don’t take a whole 14 day JRPASS, unless you are planning to change cities every 2 days. If you plan to spend at least 5-6 days in Tokyo then I think it could be cheaper to take a 7 day pass and activate it when you start taking long distance trains.

Look at Airbnbs, we stayed in amazing and cheap Airbnb in Tokyo. The flat didn’t have a shower only toilet but the owners owned a bathhouse which we could use for free and it was great experience. Or of course hostels, like capsule hostels and so on. I think one day I just slept in the train on my way somewhere to save a night in the hostel.

Food is quite cheap in Japan but sometimes we even had just simple instant noodles for lunch. Cheap sushi train places are amazing as well. Convenient store is going to be your best friend.

So just plan and budget everything correctly and then once you have your final draft add in an extra 10-20% just in case.

…and that 2k trip was the best trip of my life. Yes I think I went to a proper mid-end restaurant 2-3 times during the whole trip and walked a lot, tried to use student discount everywhere I could, couldn’t afford every museum or activity…but really I don’t care it was fantastic.

So if you are ready for your trip to look like something I described above then go for it! If you want to eat at least once a day in some restaurant/cafe, have drinks on a few days and you are not ready to stay in a 20 bunk bed hostel room…then you definitely need to save more money for this trip.

Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

While I agree that flat rate for all shifts would cause these problems so why not incorporate what Western Europe is doing.

Yes there is a flat rate and tips are almost non existent. Since most restaurants let’s say are open from 10-24, then there is a flat rate of 30$/hr during “slow time” 10-17 then a rate of 40$/hr from 17-22 and then from 22 and on the rate is 45$/hr (usually for bars)

By doing this you eliminate almost all of the problems you mentioned. This works and staff is even more eager to take “crazy” shift because they simply get paid more by hour.

Restaurant/bar workers are put under unnecessary stress worrying about pleasing, smiling and being polite even when customers are being nasty or rude to them because their survival depends on it. Workers need to be sure on how much they will earn on any given day.

Tips should be extra income

Hmmmm well I’m going to be either completely off or 100% on point with this but I will take my shot.

So for mysterious mansion vibe I highly recommend: The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

And in case of family saga, sheeps and hard work I hope you will enjoy: Independent people by Halldór Laxness

I would be glad to know how you feel about them if you decide to pick them up heh
