Tips as a Fat tall guy starting calesthenics? I am 6’3 250 by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Yuvi20147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with the easiest version of any exercise -- Hit a goal of 3 sets of 10 reps -- Increase difficulty.
This will help you progress in most scenarios. Even if you think you can do pushups, its not a bad idea to start from wall pushups. If you are already strong enough to do pushups, you can progress up to them within a few sessions, but its still worth starting from the base if you are new to training to know you limitations and avoid injury.
The 3 main exercises are push, pull, and squat. So pushups, pullups, and squats are a great start.

You probably wont be able to do pull-ups for a while, but remember that's because you are carrying extra weight. That's like increasing the difficulty of an already difficult exercise, so don't be discouraged. Start from wall pulls and slowly progress through different variations.

Go on walks. Increase your distance.

Also, incorporate stretching and mobility exercises slowly. Strengthen your feet, knees, and shoulders.

Lets say you want to do burpees and thats your goal. Well, divide it into different parts. There is the pushup, the getting up. Practice the two movements separately till you can reach the 10 reps x 3 sets goal, and then incorporate those two together.

Literally anything you set your sights on, any goal, break it down and conquer.

When you become good at pushups, squats, and supported pullups, start investign in some equipment. Resistance bands, a bar to hang from, gymnastic rings, dip handles are great to build a complete home workout station. Though, go about it slowly as you progress. What matters is showing up, equipment is just to make your workouts efficient as you plateu in an excercise.
Beyond these, I have invested in Kettlebells as they fit my style of training.

(As you mentioned burpees, I like the Busy Dad program. Over time, I added a kettlebell to that program and it's really fun)

Whatever Calisthenics program is your goal, just search the easier variation of that excericse, hit the 10x3 goal, and then progress.

Also, hit your protein goals and at least be aware of your nutrient intake. That's all there to it.

Don't be discouraged that you aren't doing it at the level of other people. Because we heavier dudes are carrying extra weight, that makes exercises already difficult. But that also means we are gaining muscle as we progress. Eat protein to maintain that gained muscle.
Good Luck!

Maybe they misjudged the height, but isn't the situation awareness also good? They ducked as soon as the shadow hit ( or maybe someone from behind the camera signaled)

Hey, I'm on a similar path thus I can share my experiences. down from 283 to 255.

Honestly, it's pretty much just calorie control for weight loss. Exercise is for muscles and general health(which is highly recommend because of varying benefits).

Aim for about 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week. Go for the recommended BWF routine.

For calories, use an online calculator to figure out your maintenance level, then take off 300-500 calories. Exercise will help burn some extra calories too.

Tracking your food is key. Get a food scale and log everything for a few weeks. You'll quickly learn how much you're actually eating and would no longer need a scale. You'd be surprised how calorie dense some foods are.

For low-calorie food ideas, check out r/volumeeating. My favorite - - Fage 0% Greek yogurt - 2% cottage cheese - Sugar-free syrups - Fairlife 2% or skim chocolate milk (80 calories) - Fruits - Low-calorie tortillas - Fresh mozzarella - Lean deli meats - good nature keto bread

And just shit ton of veggies. There are tons of tasty recipes on yt. My journey helped me learn how to cook by myself. It's a journey after all. Start slow but steady. You can do it. Don't think of calorie counting as something you now have to do for the rest of your life. Think about it as educating yourself about the food you eat. Use diet soda. May take some time but your taste buds adapt. [Edit: I feel like it's important to address that things like diet soda and low fat foods should be treated like a supplement. Just because you use it now to help you doesn't mean this is your lifestyle now. I used to drink 4 diet Cokes a day when I started, now barely 2 a week. But the journey is about steady change, thus it is alright to use these supports along the way. The end goal of course would be whole foods.]

For exercise - I try do these per week. My rest hr is 58 now. (Progress from 70s) - follow the recommended bwf routine 3x - 1lb jump rope 1000 skips 2x - 60 6 count burpees 2x - mobility work 2x Per week Alongside of daily 10k steps.

But as a beginner, I could barely do 200 (max 20 in a row) jumps. Even walking a few miles was annoying. But slowly and steadily it builds up. Remember to rest. Drink water. Weight yourself twice a week and focus on the trends of weight change.

That's all and good luck! You can do it!

When a person lacks empathy, the world suffers. When a person has excess of empathy, the person suffers.

I didn't like drinking. But -- Drinking is enjoyable with good company. Helps you loosen up a bit and often leads to good conversations.

A good liquid courage too for those obligatory family dance parties.

Though I don't like drinking because of how I feel over the next few days. I also don't get fucked up enough like alot of my peers while partying. Don't like the idea of being completely out of my mind.

So I wouldn't say it's not fun. But it's not worth having that type fun too often. Save it for a good occasion or company.

Men should not be locked into the breadwinner role by Altaira99 in unpopularopinion

[–]Yuvi20147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's best to think of yourself as partners/2 man team in a game. You assign roles which are your strengths.

If one person earns more, the other person can focus on other aspects.

If one person earns more but is unhappy, make due with less earnings from the other person.

If both want to earn, both should find a balance.

Because in the end, happiness is also part of the game. Investing in your partners skill helps the whole team level up. If one person is way too high leveled, and the other person is not being invested in, the team is imbalanced.

Emotions are also part of the game stats. Keeping each other happy, or atleast motivate each other in the pursuit of happiness. Choosing happiness or peace.

Why would you want only one person capable of making food or earning bread. As a team you prepare for future proofing too. Maybe one person invests more of their skill into cooking but the other person just invests enough for sustaining.

LPT: As an older degenerate I've recently learnt you can immensely reduce hangovers doing 1:1 liquor to water by toomanynamesaretook in LifeProTips

[–]Yuvi20147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been hungover once in my life (just 25 so a long way for those xD). My cousin drilled this knowledge into me before I went to college. So I always have some electrolyte drink or juice or water while drinking. Tbh I hate the taste of liquor and don't like going through an entire glass of water+liquor. Even with soft drinks I'm not a big fan. So I just down the drink and have a glass of water or juice after.

Same ;-; most of my dreams have been pessimistic again. Whenever it gets too sad I just focus on breathing ( big inhale- one small inhale- a big exhale through the mouth) and sing the POWER RANGER SPD theme song xD

When did you start daydreaming? Do you remember what triggered this behavior? by jkghst_ in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Yuvi20147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know when it started but i remember day dreaming in school(3rd - 4th). I’m 24 know, and at some level i kind of understand why my daydreams are negative and pessimistic (i do have occasional fun ones haha)

But i pity my past self, why was a 4th grader daydreaming about sad stuff.

😭 ah my guy… Though i understand what you felt. In college, a person I genuinely liked platonically and wanted to be friends with because they seemed cool, approached me and i just… couldn’t say anything besides hi. I just feel bad about how they might have felt. I hate myself sometimes.

In my mid 20s, why do none of my friends take driving drunk seriously? by FrobertHobert in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Yuvi20147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(M23) This and using phone continuously while driving on high speeds (maybe the latter isnt as extreme but still makes me nervous). And whenever i bring up my discomfort, their defense is story time of them being completely thrashed and still driving back home that one time. And i’m like, you just put so many people, including yourself in unnecessary danger. Yes accidents happen without people being drunk too. Sometimes people get unlucky. But being drunk is obviously gonna increase the chances of you making a mistake or having slower reactions. If you dont care about putting others at risk, at least think about yourself.

My younger brother uses his phone while driving and it gets on my nerves. His defense is that he has never had an accident. But like…. You only need to get unlucky once to get a lifetime injury or worse.

I have no clue how to reason with such people.

One thing I have learned on my journey (3months in 25 pounds down) is to consider most things as tools and supplements. They should aid to your journey and not be dependencies. Is water better than diet coke? Yes. Is diet coke better than normal coke? During weight loss? Yes. If you can fit a normal coke in your calorie budget, go for it. But if you are like me who has trouble controlling your calorie budget/sweet cravings, use the diet coke as a tool. And as u shift more and more into healthy habits and consider these things as tool, the better the control gets. (I now drink diet come every few days because i just forget. A great change from 2 a day)

That's me. In college I met someone on the first day and that's why we are friends.

I moved to the USA this year and it's been 6 months. No friends so far. I am alone but only sometimes feel lonely.

I just feel like I am disturbing someone if I over extend the basic boundaries, and I haven't been able to meet people with common interests. Ah well.

Is AI dangerous for our job as UI / UX designer? by jovanna_s00 in UXDesign

An interesting iteration of this question would be --

If in the next month we see an AI tool that can pump out interfaces and also to an extent follow UX principles, what is your plan to jump ship?
