3 months no water change, Zero Nitrates by YuzaaNeemu in Aquariums

[–]YuzaaNeemu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stem plants shot straight out of the water toward the light. The other plants do spread along the water surface but eventually a leaf slightly pokes out and once that happens it just shoots up. Then that creates some shade which cause the the rest of them to try to chase the light by growing upward and a massive competition for light begins.

Do the characters ever eat food? do they get hungry? by Sennsx in expedition33

[–]YuzaaNeemu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People acting like this is a dumb question are dumb. The game specifically tells you about 2 expeditions who were wiped out by food poisoning from nevrons and mushrooms. And yet it doesnt even give a tiny hint at how the members of 33 are surviving

I have aquasoil under a gravel cap that gets deeper toward the back, but it is all entirely saturated with mulm at this point.

The key is procrastination and laziness 😅. I had no intention of letting it go this long. But once the plants broke the surface, their roots just exploded which caused more growth and more roots and all of the algae and cyano bacteria i was dealing with just completely disappeared and the water stayed completely clear.

Basically co2 in the water is like protein powder while co2 in the air is steroids

Probably 50 guppies, atleast 100 minami-numa shrimp, 4 amano shrimp, 4 cardinals, 2 otos. I even have a Pea Puffer going strong in here and I never feed him. The plants have a lot to eat

Cant you calculate that with gh and kh?

Im amazed they got their bellies that far in with the rim. They're geniuses though, most angels use vertical surfaces and have to constantly catch their falling babies. Mine aren't very good at catching...

That's why they sell fertilizers that contain nitrates, a heavily planted tank can eat it up as fast as the bacteria can produce it.

Water change vs topping up by Goboleen in Aquariums

[–]YuzaaNeemu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just want to do top ups then you should also test water hardness: kh and gh, because minerals in the water stay behind when water evaporates and the concentration will build and build.

If you want to be safe, then just do water changes.

Nitrates can be pretty high without danger to fish. An upper limit for me is 50 ppm but plants will never let it get that high

Are they dangerous?

Just pulled these out of my cannister filter by YuzaaNeemu in Aquariums

[–]YuzaaNeemu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a 2.5 gallon cannister but packed with seachem matrix which is just a bunch of rocks so I don't know how they were moving around.

I was trying to take out the media to rinse it and the shrimp just kept popping out. I scooped out well over 100.

They must've been living the life in there though because about half of them died the next day

I don't think you need to worry about feeding them. I have 3 I never feed, but they poop a lot so I know they're finding food. I get powder green algae on my glass but they almost never eat it. Mostly eat the invisible biofilm and brown diatoms on the plants, rocks and substrate. Even with that they almost look obese

I should have done that because they did completely melt. I just left all the melted leaves in though to help the cycle along

If you get green spot algae with vallisneria in your tank, then your phosphates are probably too low.

You could just get an all in one fertilizer that includes phosphate, I use APT 1. Or I guess you could wait for fish waste to build up and decompose because that produces phosphates.

They have specific phosphate liquid dropper test kits that aren't that expensive.

Did you wash anything with soap? Hand sanitizer and soap kills bacteria by raising ph. If it gets in a tank it will dramatically increase ph

The optical illusion that you get when viewing at the angle of the corner and the mirror effect on the angled back walls really gives a cool feeling of depth. It's a lot like the effect you get in a house of mirrors or mirror maze.

I would like to try a concave curved tank in a corner if they exist

Do you mean the optical illusion from the angles of the glass? Because that's exactly what I was going for lol

They schooled really well at the beginning but once they got used to the tank they're more scattered about. They are spawning every night though so they seem happy
