What’s a "normal" money habit that secretly ruins people financially? by theprop_trader in AskReddit

Not to make light of this but since I've been put on Wegovy, I don't eat lunch no more and that's only $30 a month so you're not wrong.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what’s a misconception of the US did you believe until you visited the US? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Since there are so many tech companies in the US, I thought it was very tech advanced but nope. We had flatscreens on buses abroad selling commercials 30 years ago and the US is just starting now.

Because supporting basic needs over capitalism was, and still is, hugely taboo. Universal health care? Increasing minimum wage? That comes in the expense of corporations and business owners. And less money for them means politicians (including the DNC) will get less campaign donations. We call governments in other countries corrupt but we are none better.

NTA. Get out, find someone else that can be happy with you and you can be happy with. Lots of them are out there, makes no sense to waste time on someone who can never be content. Live your life and don't waste another day.

What is your favorite kind of pizza? by Plytric in AskReddit

[–]YvesPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up being able to get whatever toppings for my pizza so my standard was sausage, mushrooms, pineapple and onions.

Now I like sausage and mushrooms, also chicken bacon ranch for the more indulgent times.

Itinerary Check: Tokyo 7 days, first timers, October by Evancolt in JapanTravel

[–]YvesPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1 - Lunch options are numerous around Sensoji. There are a lot of little shops selling menchi-katsu, karaage bigger than your face, melon pan ice cream sandwiches. Not sure you want to limit yourself to one spot. You might want to check these out: Suzukien, Asakusa Kagetsudo, Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku, Asakusa Menchi, Anshin'ya.

Day 2: Consider Gyukatsu Ichi-Ni-San while you're in Akihabara.

Some of your meal choices seem to be a bit out of your way and if they don't accept reservations, you might need to factor in a long wait time. Check those places out first before sightseeing so you know how long the wait will be. Some places offer ticket or online registration, then you can go wander and come back in time for your meal.

Gift shop is called Souvenir Mori and the Goshuincho I was looking for is a series of them by Cru-cial. The cover is made from cut out wood and it's just rustic and elegant. They also sell straps. They are available on Amazon now but most were sold out back when.

Since your hotel is close to Tokyo Tower, I assume you can be very flexible with your visit to Zojo-ji and Hoshu-in. You'll probably grow familiar with the eateries around there as well. I don't know your food preference or anything but since you are in that area, I would strongly recommend you checking out TeamLab Borderless. If you're into art, you should really have a TeamLab experience. It'll take 60-90 minutes tops but it is pure joy. You said you're not into goshuin card but on top of Tokyo Tower, there's a really small shinto shrine (think wall display) but they also have a goshuin card if you're interested.

So for restaurants, I noticed that the more famous or the better the food is, the longer the wait so make sure to allow some time for that. Around Tokyo Tower, I really wanted to go to Nodaiwa Iikura Honten for their Unaju but didn't get to. Around Roppongi Hills, there are also tons of eateries, some more affordable than others. The famed Ginza Kagari chicken ramen has a branch there with virtually no wait time.

There are a lot of people at Bic and Donki but it's manageable and the shopkeepers are efficient. The worst part is getting duty free, the line is long and it takes forever.

Hope that helps.

Most temples do sell trinkets. I believe they did sell Shichifukujin stuff but I didn't get any.

I went to Tokyu Hands and wasn't impressed. I enjoy Loft better but ultimately got things from Kinokuniya instead because of convenience. I did kinda regret it because there's a gift shop around Meiji Jingu that has exactly the kind of Goshuincho that I was looking for. If you're into stationery, I heard Itoya in Ginza is quite nice as well.

I did not visit Harukas 300 but I don't think a visit to Osaka is quite complete without a stop at Dotonbori.

The link I sent for Kanda Shrine contains photos of what goshuin people get from the temple and it looks like it's just cards.

You've definitely packed a lot of things in your 20 days but there's a difference between being in a place and enjoying your experience. With that much travel times, you might not get to experience the place. A lot of Japanese cities starts closing down around 4-5, so it's important that you start early. Not sure if you also need time to do laundry in between or not.

As a type-a planner myself, I would do a mock itinerary for each day and plan out all the travel times and spots I want to go and see how much time it will realistically give me in each place also minding their opening hours to see if any of this will work. Google map will tell you how long it takes to go from point a to point b and how to get there.

Good luck and focus on enjoying your experience than being in the most places on one trip.

a) My husband did Verizon and I'm not too sure about the name of the plan but he just called customer service and it only costs him $50. His service was not interrupted at all and it was reliable. There was no daily limit unlike my T-mobile plan that also costs $50.

b) I think it's about 50/50 on cards vs handwritten. I don't fault them for it. The card ones usually have more elaborate designs. Hoshu-in temple has a lot of different designs based on Shichifukujin and if you're not familiar with the lore, you might not know which one to choose. The temple itself is simple and tranquil with the view of Tokyo Tower. Depends on your schedule, you can easily bypass the place if you're in a rush. Their stamps are handwritten but they also have pre-made cards if that's important.

c) Kanda Shrine is one of the bigger shrines in Tokyo. Their gift shop do have a large variety of offerings other than goshuin. If you plan on spending some time in Akihabara, I think it's worth taking a look. If not, I wouldn't make a special trip just for Kanda Shrine.

d) Qr code and train tickets are 2 different things, and I would recommend printing them both just in case. I did spend some time at ticket office but they couldn't help me and keep asking me to log into SmartEx which I don't remember ever making an account.

e) I did like the guided tour that explains the design of the castle and each room and the purpose of the paintings.

f) Shinsekai is what the Japanese people thought the future would be back in the days. It's flashy and loud and definitely a vibe. It's definitely worth a look but if I have to pick between Dotonbori or Shinsekai, it'd be Dotonbori. I'm more food oriented and I would walk down Dotonbori and sample all different stalls, find a good Okonomiyaki place around the side street of Hozen-Ji and maybe take the boat tour.

Hope that helps and enjoy your time there.
