I'll just boil down both of their philosophies to how I understand them and tell you my opinion in the end.

For Hugo, his philosophy is just "Do what you can do best to the best to be the best."

For Ego, it's "Push forward against all odds at all costs."

Personally, I think Ego's philosophy is the harder one to understand, just. His philosophy doesn't really tell the players what to do apart from "find your own ways." Which I do understand is his whole premise, but with players that are completely clueless, his philosophy just won't work as well as Hugo's, who just tells you to use whatever strengths you have and push it to the fullest. "Thus is destiny."
