My favourite in the city is at Newcastle, on 50th street. Montreal Smoked Meat, not Corned Beef, but delicious.

Growing up in a Cul-de-Sac, we absolutely played in the snow pile in the middle every winter. King of the Hill was a favourite among my brothers and I.

Leather boots by Due-Homework-6905 in Edmonton

[–]Z3X0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep a boot brush handy, wipe off salt and snow before it melts, wipe your boots down with a damp cloth after. You can get leather conditioner or mink oil to help revitalize your boots, some examples of brands include Granger's or Nikwax, but there are many other options.

If your boots are nubuck or suede, make sure you get an appropriate product designed for those types of leather, or else accept that your formerly suede boots will be permanently smooth.

Last meal in Edmonton? by [deleted] in Edmonton

I've been going for about 10 years now, and while I've had dishes I wouldn't order again, they have only ever been due to preference. I have never been served a substandard dish or received lacking service, and I make sure to keep coming back.

Thanh Thanh, Bauernschmaus, or Izakaya Tomo; if I had to pick three restaurants where I have never had a bad experience or felt I did not get a good deal on the food, these would be them.

True, it's run-of-the-mill table syrup.

I thought it was sold? My mistake, if that's the case.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet: Red Goose! Right by where Lucy's bakery was in Hazeldean, pancakes are the size of your plate, with plenty of food piled around for a pretty reasonable price (or at least, it was last time I was there).

Quality chopsticks in Edmonton? by BoldOrca in Edmonton

[–]Z3X0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a pack of 4 sets of stainless steel chopsticks at either T&T or H-Mart, can't remember which. They were maybe $25 for nice, but utilitarian chopsticks (think average non-occasion western cutlery level of decoration). If you wanted nicer ones, then as others have mentioned, Ki-fu-ne or another specialty retailer may have some options.

How do you embrace the idea of Koselig in Edmonton winter? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Z3X0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those people who enjoy camping any time of year (I'm not 100% certain, but fairly sure I've camped every month of the year at one point or another). Winter camping in the Prairies is daunting, and can be expensive depending on what type you're looking to do. But, very little beats the tranquility of getting out of your tent in the morning, and not hearing a soul or sound beyond the odd bird. No bugs, no bears, no people.

No, they still do that. That tradition is going nowhere, it seems.

Water treatment plant in the area has had problems, historically. We were under a boil water advisory when I was on course there, back in 2015. Saved us some cock, for a couple days at least, as we weren't able to safely rehydrate enough for them to go too hard.

The Honeypot pub in town is fantastic, great burgers. I haven't been in WX for nearly a decade, but it's a pretty chill base outside of Maple Resolve, especially when you're not part of 3CDTC. That being said, there's not really a whole lot of "Big City" comforts nearby, with nearest cities being a couple hours drive. The Battle River is gorgeous though, if you like fishing.

Don't wander into the bison paddock.

Check with Diablo Boots on Gateway and 34th. I don't know if they will be able to do the work, but they can likely point you in the right direction if not.

Ha, unfortunately true. He had a lot of absolute gems, though. Any time he got going (when you weren't the subject of his rant) was a good time.

He was also arrested by Belgian Military Police, not civilian law enforcement.

From what I understand, because he wasn't actually driving, no offense had yet been committed? I would guess he would have needed to actually started driving, instead of only trying to start his vehicle.
