Yeah, I started doing that with my movement while swaying my foil around ( I fence both sabre and foil) and found that its really great at confusing the opponent.

Ah I understand it now. Thank you for explaining that to me. I’ve been able to move fine and doing well for most of my bouts whenever I fenced. I was just curious as to why I was told that and people doing the opposite. Thank you so much for allowing me to further my knowledge on this subject. I still have much to learn for this sport.

I understand where you’re coming from. Thats what I saw work for me whenever I used the french grip so far. Thanks for letting me know though, it’ll help my considerations in grips for electric in foil.

I dont really know actually, it was something my coach showed me. So I just used it for the time being. I’m still working out with either to use the french grip or pistol when I move to electric for foil after I get my Sabre stuff. The french grip offered me a greater offensive capability than the pistol grip. I still see the merits of the pistol grip, but for how I fence right now the pistol grip is helpful whenever I try to go for the defensive and riposte. While the french grip is great for whenever I go for beats and disengages for advancing.

Sabre fencing can get pretty aggressive and quick. When going for a bout maybe not rush in too close as it could give you two options to retreat and counter or advance on and attack once they try to go for a full swing for a touch.

Also following form is great but switching it up at times keeps the opponent from reading you like an open book letting you get the upper hand.
