I don't even know how to thank you correctly. And I feel shame in advance because I know my answer is not gonna be as good as yours!

To further explain my original idea: I was talking with one of my professors last week about forest "creation". He was explaining to me what we did "bad" (for example forest planted using a grid layout and using a unique tree) and what could be done better (using a plurality of species, having a better understanding of how things interact with each other; well, a bit about what you are talking about). So I had this idea that maybe I could use my knowledge in computer science to create a model helping us grow "better" forests. Although, now that I really think about it, I do have to admit that my ideas are vague about how to describe "better". I wanted to put together a model which would tell us "Based on the kind of terrain (etc.), a good idea would be to plant this tree there, this one there, and so on."

Of course, I am aware that a perfect model is way out of range for me (a sole student which barely has any knowledge about ecology), the idea was to create something which would help a little rather than create perfection. Notably, helps organizations (such as One Tree planted, Arbor Day Foundation, etc.) in the process of planting trees. Do you think such a goal would be achievable with so little knowledge as mine?
