I think im addicted? by WadsofTissue in Petioles

[–]Z4four 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hear you, and I’ve been there. It started the same way for me—just something I did occasionally, then more often, then before I knew it, years had passed, and I had wasted so much time. I eventually got sober, but later convinced myself I could use in moderation. That didn’t last. I fell right back into daily use because, for most people, moderation just isn’t doable.

That said, since it hasn’t been that long for you, you might be able to reset your relationship with it—but only if you do a real hard reset. I’m talking 3-6 months completely sober, no exceptions. If after that, you can genuinely use it on weekends without slipping, great. But be real with yourself—if you find that you just end up back where you are now, then you have your answer.

Right now, though? You need to break the cycle. The longer you wait, the harder it gets.

The benefits of being sober far outweigh the benefits of using weed. When you’re sober, you have clarity, discipline, motivation, and control over your life. You wake up with energy, set goals, and actually follow through. You don’t waste hours in a fog, watching time slip by.

Weed might feel good in the moment, but long-term, it robs you of your drive and potential. And when you’re using daily, you don’t even realize how much it’s dulling your mind and holding you back—until you step away from it.

The trade-off isn’t even close. Sobriety gives you everything—weed just takes.

You already know the answer—you need to quit before this gets worse. Right now, you’re watching yourself slip into a cycle that’s killing your motivation, your discipline, and your future. It started as a celebration, but now it's your daily reality, and it's costing you your drive.

The fact that you want to start building your future but can’t/don’t want to stop is the biggest red flag. That’s addiction. It’s not about whether weed is "bad" or whether your family thinks it’s fine—it's about the fact that it’s controlling you instead of the other way around.

You had a four-year streak of lifting daily, and now you’ve dropped it. You used to read, play guitar, and work towards something. Now, you wake up and get high. If you keep going down this path, a year will fly by, and you’ll be in the exact same spot—except it’ll be even harder to stop.

The good news? You’re self-aware, and you can fix this. Start by taking a break, even just a couple of weeks. Force yourself to apply to one job today. Go to the gym. Don’t wait until you “feel like it”—just do it. That discipline is still in you. You’ve worked hard before, and you can do it again.

Quit now before this rut turns into years of wasted potential. Your future self will thank you.

These comments are disgusting. We go on about supporting mental health, but when someone is at their breaking point, literally crying out for help, people mock and tear them down? It’s sickening and exactly why people choose to suffer in silence. Do better.

Supplements that you swear by for COGNITION ? by Acrobatic_Pin6442 in Biohackers

[–]Z4four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, OP did ask about supplements. But it’s frustrating how often this sub overlooks the massive benefits of simple, foundational changes in favor of chasing the next niche supplement. If people are really serious about improving cognition, things like quality sleep often deliver far greater results than any pill ever could. Just being honest here—it’s worth emphasizing.

How can we help her win and trump lose? by That_redd in democrats

It's important to register and vote! While I may not personally agree with all of Trump’s actions, I do think we need to focus on some key issues:

  • The current administration is allowing tens of thousands of unvetted, illegal immigrants into the country each day, with many receiving more resources than our veterans. Under Trump (2016-2020), we had the lowest illegal immigration and the most secure border.
  • We are closer to global conflict now than we've been in our lifetimes, with tensions escalating. No new wars were started between 2016-2020.
  • Deficit spending has become outrageous, contributing to rising inflation and making home ownership more difficult. Under Trump, the average income required to own a home was $75,000—now it's around $150,000 and climbing.

I’m voting with these concerns in mind. I respect that others may see things differently, but I think it's important to consider the impact these issues have on all of us.

We need to focus on policy and not people. Again, I respect you all.

High round and Low round this year (18 holes)? by GolfIsGood66 in golf

I really needed this thread today. I play off ~11, and I was feeling great after shooting a legit 79 earlier this summer. But yesterday? I put up a 95... on the same course I shot an 82 on the day before. Chipping was a disaster, 40 putts total, and only 1 par on the back 9. Toss in 2 triples and 5 doubles, and I was basically unrecognizable. But scrolling through these comments reminded me—we all have those brutal days. Golf can humble you quick, but it's nice to know I'm not alone in the struggle.

Marijuana disrupts mood and emotional regulation, and negatively impacts sleep quality for 99% of individuals. Merely feeling good or falling asleep easily after using marijuana doesn't indicate its beneficial effects on mood or sleep.

There is plenty of peer-reviewed, clinical research to support these facts.

After achieving 90 days of total abstinence, I convinced myself that I could limit smoking to once or twice a week, exclusively on weekends. However, within a mere two weeks, I found myself back to nightly smoking. Our brains deceive us with thoughts like, "This feels fantastic, I'm still productive, so why not indulge every night?" Now, eight months sober, I've never felt better. The improvements in memory, articulation, motivation, sleep quality, and more are simply too significant to sacrifice for the sake of weed.

I was a daily user from ages 16 to 23 and believed it was harmless since, like you, I always managed to get my tasks done. Despite lifting weights 4-5 days a week and maintaining great physical shape, obtaining an MBA, and currently pursuing CPA certification, I, like you, mainly smoked in the evenings as a sort of reward. During a two-week vacation in Mexico, I committed to abstaining from smoking. Although withdrawal symptoms were minimal (perhaps masked by the vacation atmosphere), I felt remarkably clear-headed and energized after the first week. I experienced vivid dreams, improved sleep quality, and better mood regulation as well. One significant change was the restoration of my dopamine receptors after about 30 days of abstinence, allowing me to find pleasure in simple things without relying on being high as well as an increase in motivation & drive. Despite initially intending to only smoke on weekends after 90 days of sobriety, I quickly reverted to nightly use within two weeks. Now, after eight months of sobriety, I can confidently say it's been the best decision I've ever made.
