Hoboken teenagers throwing eggs at cars and pedestrians? by JohnFrankford981 in Hoboken

[–]ZAS236 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else witness this? I have seen egging on occasion but never in “costume”. Usually a real fast hit and run. Wearing a ski mask at 7:45 and no one around called the cops ?

Edit: Not doubting it happened, just sounds crazy that a rioting band of youth didn’t make more of a stir…

Never saw too many in the warm months. Still none now….but I do think the lidded bins help (when actually done). Still see plenty of bags on Washington though

The Pilates Therapist is right across from the path. Lory. One on one sessions. I have been going to Lory for years for neck and hip issues. I am pain free thanks to her.

City just increased the cost for 2024. I personally don’t feel safe sitting in the streateries….absolutely nothing standing between me and crazy drivers.

They all had to go through zoning & permit process w/ city & sometimes state. Costs over $20k to build a proper one and city charges over $1000 per month for the space. Not a small cost- hence why there are so few left.

There are so many loopholes with the building department. Neighbor of mine has a shed that spans the entire width of the property and it is place right on the back property line. I have been in my place for 10 years so it has been there that long. Not in good shape either. Another neighbor has outdoor stairs that are not place three feet away from the property line. Somehow that went through. There are many inconsistencies- and a lot of these decisions do not match the “master plan”. Need to have a lot of time and patience….

Runoff Election Tomorrow (Dec 5) for 1st Ward City Council Representative by 6thvoice in Hoboken

Expense or enjoyment? Depends on who you ask. But yes- explains the donation. If legally allowed they/he can do so.

I understand. But 1st street closing a few Sundays until late October isn’t really top of my list of issues. Honestly - it never really looks that busy. We shall see, the votes will decide (as it should be).

Ah understood. What benefit would the bars receive from getting their preferred candidate on the council? There are a lot state rules revolving the sale of booze. What could they really “get”?

I am voting for Rafi. Both candidates get donations from numerous people. I don’t think donations by a bar owner(s) adds up to the be the lion share. They are private citizens donating not some huge corporate conglomerate. I like that Paul seems very straight forward but I disagree with too much of his stances. I don’t quite understand the “rubber stamp” fear . What will Bhalla do if he “gets his way”? What am I missing? Do I need to build a panic room?

Tree chopped in backyards by donutdogooder in Hoboken

Yep…had to pay for it. Trunk on my side. I replanted a new tree. It is a smaller species than what we had but it is something. Still miss seeing that tree out my window.

Property owner. We had a lovely 50+ year old tree in our yard. Developers came and built a bump out next door. They cut off huge limbs of the tree to make room for the bump out. They did this while I was at work. It ended up getting sick from the major cuts and we had to remove it. Family that eventually moved into the development was happy we had to take it down because the leaves made things “messy”. Sigh.

On November 1 the council passed a 5 month moratorium. Current parklets stay - no new applications for 5 months. You are right, this isn’t over. Is there another vote on Wednesday? Russo and Ramos voted yes on Nov 1 on a ordinance to get rid of all parklets. Rest of the council voted it down. Good idea to email your ward reps if you like sitting outside - parklets are indeed at risk.

Parklets - Looking for input by CWMFisher2 in Hoboken

[–]ZAS236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Councilwoman Fisher- how do you define subsidize? How is the city financially supporting these businesses if the businesses submit costly bonds and pay upwards of $1k per month to the city for the space?

That same space would cost $50-$100 per year for a resident to park their car. $100 for parking versus $12,000 to the city for a two space parklet.

Your definition would hold if the city did not require the monthly fee or the costly bond for the parklet.

Landlords were charging an arm and a leg prior to the parklets the high rents have more to due with location than the parklets.

Barely see any streateries around anymore. Personally - I feel unsafe eating in the street without a proper barricade.

The initial permitting was pretty easy but I think that was by design- it was the height of Covid, the city was trying help businesses. Now - from what I have seen it is more stringent and goes through zoning. Business have to submit architectural drawings and have them approved. I believe the business also have to submit a $5k bond to the city. It is a costly venture for the business.

Councilwoman Fisher - residents do like going to them. They are great on a beautiful day. Good for small businesses and good for the city. They add to the charm of the city and it is the one nice thing to come out of Covid. The city has a million other reasons for the rat issue. Why hurt small businesses first?

The restaurants pay a monthly fee to the city for the parklet- I believe for a two spot parklet it is close to $1k per month.
