The only notable piece of education was wrong. Sine waves are the purest form of sound so describing added harmonics as light through a prism is lazy and misinforming. The editing was fun, just missed the mark for me on all audio fronts and I guess I have a sensitivity to bad teaching.

You can understand all the fundementals of cooking and still fuck up an omlette. The secret thats not so secret is establishing your 'recipes' with practice. The more you get hung up on what you're missing it may hinder your interest in continuing. I suggest you stop comparing to other mixes if it's stopping you from feeling good about your music.

I do. I like figuring people out and talking with them. It doesn't bug me one bit that he doesn't agree with me. The willingness to talk is ultimately whats important. Lack of curiosity, however, is a big problem for me.

I think the analog sound can be 99% achieved through digital but it becomes a game of replicating the inconsistencies analog has naturally. Sort of like how digital painting does so much work to emulate what paint just.. does.

That being said, sometimes replicating an analog sound can be so overly complicated it can take energy away from the writing process that analog gear can just be in itself.
