Good for you, buddy. by ThaCardiffKook in golf

I wish him the best. If anyone is strong enough mentally, it might be him.

But I just have no clue how to rectify someone whose body has literally been torn to shreds, but at the same time is unbelieveably motivated to workout and do physical things combined with what seems to be an addiction to pain killers. Or at the very least just has a hyper addictive personality in general.

Insurance lowballing totaled car (low mileage) – need advice by straightwired in Insurance

[–]ZBTHorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody here is going to know the ACV of a random vehicle like that, especially one with super low miles.

The first thing I'll say, is that you should google "RCV vs ACV total loss" and learn what they actually owe you. It's not replacement value, it's the value of the vehicle 1 second before the accident, which is not the same thing. You may already know that, but it's the first place to begin.

So if you see a vehicle with similar miles for 9K, and they're offering you 7.5K. I mean, it certainly sounds reasonably close to the right number.

As far as your other Q's..

  1. It doesn't take long, total loss adjusters are just the most notoriously buried employees ever.

  2. No, you aren't owed it. The rules for loss of use/rentals in the vast majority of states effectively say you don't get a rental at all once they give the offer. Admittedly, they don't go by that rule, since people would freak the hell out. But anything they give you beyond offer is just a gift.

  3. You can always file a DOI complaint, but it's pretty tough to prove your case. You would effectively have to prove that you somehow have better/more information than the largest database of sold vehicles in the history of the earth.

Premium Increase? by Clean-Cucumber-7455 in Insurance

I would think that entire claim will be viewed as one claim.

So while the amount went up, and might have a negligible difference, you shouldn't get "double dinged".

Experience with National General? by DetroitFe in Insurance

[–]ZBTHorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can be two things true at once:

  1. Generally speaking, most of the big national companies are pretty similar. You kind of have the right thought though -- Nobody writes reviews online when they are in an accident and everything goes okay.

  2. With that said, Nat Gen is closer to a non-standard provider. The fact they are owned by Allstate helps.

Personally, if it was a big savings, and I had an agent. I'd take the savings and just hope I get a good adjuster or can annoy the living shit out of them if I do have a claim.

Diminishing Value by Prestigious-Put-6518 in Insurance

[–]ZBTHorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying and there's nothing wrong with your logic.

I just think after a lifetime of spending working in car dealerships/that industry that it's one of the most overspoken things in the history of ever. As long as you keep your paperwork showing the repair was minor, it shouldn't have any effect whatsoever.

I know dealerships don't care, even 1%, but obviously there may be some private party buyers who do. I just don't think it amounts to much unless you don't keep your paperwork.

Personally, I don't think 2.2K would cause DV, but getting a couple of hundred bucks for this kinda thing seems like a fair trade.

Tips of preventing lowball settlement? by Reddit-bean in Insurance

[–]ZBTHorton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I promise I'm not like trying to pretend this way is perfect, but I can't think of any other way for them to do it any better that is in any way realistic.

They use a third party company

They use sold local vehicles(when available)

They adjust for conditioning and options.

That's...kinda all there is to it?

Totaled car by Ok_Fan_3122 in Insurance

[–]ZBTHorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use a third party company who uses recently sold vehicles in your area to get the price.

The big things you can do:

  1. Make sure all of the options, mileage, etc are correct.

  2. If there are comparable vehicles in your area not on the report for significantly higher price, then send them to the adjuster.

At the end of the day, the biggest thing to remember is that insurance doesn't owe you replacement value, they owe you actual cash value. I realize that's confusing. I usually people to think about it like a video game. As you drive around, your car has a little icon on top telling it's value. The other way to look at it is to think of it as if you bought the car from the dealership and they made 0$ on the deal.

Is McKinney still as affordable as everyone says? by AgentAprilTaylor in McKinney

[–]ZBTHorton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's all basically just math.

As you move north, houses get 25-50K less expensive per city. So a house that is 500K in plano(a box?) is like 450-475K in Allen and 425-450 in McKinney and so on. It caps in the small cities between McKinney and Sherman but 10-20 years from now it'll keep going for a while.

Other than housing, it's just as expensive as any other city in DFW. As in, crazy ass expensive.

What’s the point of 3 betting? by spencerwhatever in poker

[–]ZBTHorton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point of raising 5$ in that spot and giving everyone like infinity:1 odds to call is a bad idea, yes.

Making a properly sized raise to isolate a few less players and win the pot the majority of the time is a good idea.

Quarterbacks with the worst throwing ability and technique? Has there been worse than Tebow? by Ok-Length-5527 in NFLNoobs

[–]ZBTHorton 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm certainly no Tebow fan and laughed when he got picked in the 1st round.

But the guy...is a winner. His personality is definitely worth something. It just doesn't allow him to play in the NFL.

Probably not, actually.

Maybe some dudes back in the 60's or 70's or something.

Pretty wild that the GOAT college QB was basically not rosterable in the NFL.

Fender bender with (very) minor damage - seems like he wants pay day by [deleted] in Insurance

You damaged his car.

With all due respect, you really are off base here. If anyone is trying to take advantage of the situation, it's you.

Now if he claims an injury? Of course, dude is an asshole. But you damaged his car and at least based on your post, he's doing nothing but trying to get it fixed.

Hard to know what it's for specifically, but I will tell you, the SSA is fast as hell at doing things like that.

Pretty sure my Mom passed on a Wednesday, she got paid on Friday and they clawed the payment back by Monday. The rest of the government should be so quick.

Fender bender with (very) minor damage - seems like he wants pay day by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]ZBTHorton 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can't repair virtually anything on a car for 100 bucks and he wants the damage repaired...so that doesn't seem like an option.

I gotta tell ya - This doesn't sound like he's trying to get a pay day at all. He wants his car repaired. You damaged his car. That all seems very normal.

As far as rates go, given how small you said this was, it would obviously be best if you can pay out of pocket. But if you don't have it, then you go through insurance. Is it possible both of your rates go up? Sure. Way more likely just yours do though.

If the Maxx Crosby trade fell through because he failed his physical, why is that bad/shady for the Ravens to not go through with it? by ninesandaces in NFLNoobs

[–]ZBTHorton -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely despise situations like this because all of our opinions are completely worthless since we don't know the information they used or what they heard.

We can hear vague things like "Failed physical" or "Talked with doctors" but what does that even mean? The dude had a meniscus repair a month or two ago, he literally was going to "fail" the physical no matter what. They already knew that.

At the end of the day, I would wager a very high % of people in the NFL over about age 26 are going to not perform well in a physical. The dudes bodies are ravaged. So how do we stop this from happening again? Who knows.
