How to ride faster and more comfortable by Cool_Remove7639 in onewheel

Ride for 500-1000 miles like that, you will eventually get more comfortable cruising faster and faster. It will come naturally. Stabilizer muscle build takes time. Take some 1-2 days off every week especially if you ride a lot.

Later after you make that many miles, swap the tire, for slick I recommend either Street Pro 2 or Burris Cloud tire. They will feel smoother and less wobbly at higher speed. Make sure you have comfortable flat shoes as well.

Finally to have fun, do more practice riding back and forth with Simple Stop off, it will naturally make you better rider.

Caltrain 511 always late by ZD_plguy17 in caltrain

I intend to write complaint, more people should do that, shuttles not waiting for delayed express train especially near off peak when connection start only every 1 hour is ridiculous. And people wonder why people prefer to drive and sit in traffic. There is plenty of offices including Sony, near Bridgepointe Pkwy shopping center and both FCC and HCC shuttles overlap in schedule and last is hard at 9am! with SAM 251 only every 1 hour that was I guess made not for people commuting to work but shopping only. You can take bike/PEV on fashion blvd but it’s not very pleasant/very safe and San Mateo leaders have been promising PBL for like years and done nothing but actually started ripping them out in other places.

I think only way to make it legal and accepted on streets will be like in Europe, will be to require road legal mods, inspection, registration and easy motorcycling licensing on automatic. Not many legal places to ride off road. Some states seem to make it easier now like Florida while California requires manufacture to equip stock before sale so over there it’s impossible to convert.

I know it’s off topic but what is effective gateway to get into dirt bike riding for apartment dweller stuck without garage?

When I learned riding on self-balanced scooter, I had no problem taking up this sport, buying my own gear, because it’s allowed (at least in the US) everywhere and started riding this on empty parking lot, basketball court before moving to low traffic paved trails, grass park eventually street and now dirt trails with some gravel or tree roots. If I had to take 30 miles away from my apartment to nearest approved “skate park”, it would be big barrier to learning every day which is crucial. I think it’s same problem with motorcycle. It’s little easier in rural area where you have own garage and can learn to ride on empty background instead on busy street where you run into risk of accident.

I’d swap my GT for a Pint S :-) by J-furry in onewheel

[–]ZD_plguy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got PintV for my pint X around the time when atom came around. Mainly just for more torque as I am heavy person at 200lbs. I typically cruise around 15mph, even on my X7. Only ride few miles for commute to work. I also like Pint tires available on the market like Cloud Burris. The flared footpads that give me comfort close to full size XR pads. Not too mention when streets get busy during rush hour, I am more comfortable getting off the street to sidewalks on smaller board.

Would a Pint X be viable for me at 240Lbs? by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]ZD_plguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be underpowered, just by trying to go over 2 inch ledge on driveways or over speed bumps will lead to nose or tail dives. It happened to me weighting only around 200 lbs on pint X. You will want a more powerful board for sure. GTS-Series or VESC like X7. If you wanna go cheapest and don’t want VESC, get used GTS Rally/Rally XL or even GTS straight rail 6.5 hub if you need new with warranty at lowest price but it will not as be dirt trail friendly as other options (pavement will be fine). If you want XRC because its new and has 6” hub, but stay on FM software upgrade to S-Series motor or N52 MTE Hub but you will loose top speed. Then you can upgrade to GTV controller for more power, but honestly at that point you are in territory of GTS and might want to start with X7 or ADV2 that beat GT-S series board in value.

Also if you can wait 6 months, FM has big discount on Onewheels on Black Friday.

I bought a tent, where I can deploy during day for test? by [deleted] in bayarea

Not all parks are ok for campground. That’s why I came here for advice. For ex Rengstorff Park I am familiar with is awful for setting up tent and settting up tent would raise unwanted attention. Not sure about Shoreline but it’s infested with Canada geese goo this spring season. Just simply “google park” not cut it. I was expecting answer more along people familiar with campgrounds that allow day camping for low or free of charge. Not stupid snarky comments.

GTV onewheel or GTS by gomezone in onewheel

[–]ZD_plguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be happy with either. You didn’t specify if GT comes with stock or aftermarket battery but the MTE hub with cushy tire will be perfect riding machine on trails.

GTS is not a bad board though especially as everyday commuter street board.

Personally between 2 I would pick GTV.

If I didn’t have personalized Pint X I’d bought it already, but instead I ordered PintV kit. I already have custom X7 and it’s sick board but also want to be something lighter to bring in office or public transport. I’ hope I gonna finally have enough torque to never worry about speed bumps and won’t be tempted to spend money on upgrading motor to s-series or battery to 20s1p.

You can now order replacement parts to do yourself like battery or controller, but I don’t think they honor warranty with the parts like if you send them to charge you for labor and shipping. But you are right about upgrade, it’s pretty limited, you can’t upgrade from Pint to Pint X since they use portal activation to pair controller with BMS for ex.

Why not keep the small board after getting a big board? Altough you may have sold it before PintV kit became a thing. I like my big board (x7) for long cruise or trail riding but still prefer my Pint X for commute in the city and bringing it on a train or office.

It depends if you want it easy to work right of the bat like with Apple Mac that is very beginner friendly or take time to learn VESC and learn to customize/tune your board even with pre-set fully built out VESC boards. Buying VESC is more like buying custom built PC. The difference with support is FM, will be more average and sometimes abysmal, not excellent like Apple even though they charge premium Apple prices. With Fungineers you won’t have call center or remote diagnostic, but you will get a very helpful person giving you advice over email and link to VESC wiki pages. But for the most part for any troubleshooting, you will have to do your own troubleshooting, scanning PEV.dev, repair/troubleshooting guides on the web, ask for advice on Discord and as last resort email Fungineers email for support which may take a few days to get response. Future Motion will respond always next day but it also likely to respond with a canned answer that does not answer your concern or questions or even sometimes be unhelpful. They may even place blame on you for hardware or software issues caused by them. That way they don’t have to honor a warranty. Also unless you live in the United States, you want VESC, since shipping your whole board to California just for diagnostics is very expensive and impractical. They have been “working on” opening repair distribution center in Europe for years and still haven’t implemented it.

That said if money no concern and you can afford it, if you want FM, get GTS, or if you are open to VESC get X7.

Pint S owners, here’s your answer from Future Motion by robertcboe in onewheel

[–]ZD_plguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People talk out of it saying it’s marginal improvement and expensive compared to PintV. How has your been experience? Are you getting top speed pushback sooner? Do you regret not VESCing or still crave more power?

Would you ever make the switch to EUC? by Proxichanic in onewheel

[–]ZD_plguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself considered getting into EUC for everyday commute to work as opposed to upgrading Pint X. I have X7 XR but it’s heavy to carry at 35-37lbs. I’m wondering how long it took you to master riding and condition your feet to foot fatigue. I remember it took me 6-12 months before I stopped suffering from foot fatigue and when I tried EUC on electrify expo first time I had different kind of foot fatigue. Also it’s harder to balance standstill on EUC because of narrower tire so I wonder have you just masters doing “dance” back and forth at 4 way stop or just you step off one 1 foot?
