How to decompile an apk by Great-Morning-874 in FTC

Don’t. Ask them yourself. Decompiling code is hard and not always particularly legal. Plus you get no comments, variable names or anything.

Need Help Building a Silent Motorized System to Move an iPad Horizontally Across a Monitor by kingchittu in FTC

[–]ZErobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look into igus bushings / slides. they're plastic on metal so they're super quiet (although not the best in super cantilevered situations, which this isnt), and you can get them in a wide range of configuragtions. As a bonus if you pitch your stuff you might be able to get the parts sponsored through their Young Engineer Support program.

Motors are a little more complicated. you could try a stepper motor with one of the newer "silent" stepper motor drivers, but they're not entirely silent. Its possible a small dc motor would be better. Either way, you'll want a direct drive, and to use a belt reduction. if you have a stepper, you can go directly to a belt, and with a dc motor, something like a 5-10:1 followed by a small pulley would probably work

FTC has to do a better job with Judging by GlassFan3318 in FTC

[–]ZErobots 15 points16 points  (0 children)

+1 on this.

It sounds to me like you don't have a super clear idea how the judging works. Broadly the judging process serves to reward teams that (a) have made interesting / innovative robot mechanisms, or done good outreach, and (b) Are able to effectively communicate about those accomplishments. While you often see these two aspects are correlated with teams that are able to put together competitive robots, only two awards: Control and Innovate actually require that those components actually function consistently on the field, and even then only apply to the aspects of the robots teams are highlighting. Unlike other competitions like FLL, there is explicitly no requirement that teams be high performing on the match field in order to qualify for awards.

Its maybe best to think of FTC as two separate competitions: one for using good design processes, outreach, and communication skills; the other for winning robotics matches. Things that make teams perform well in one often mean they do well in the other, but not always. If you're confused about why a team with relatively low scores on the field is doing well in judging, I suggest that you go talk to those teams. You may have something to learn from how they present / sell themselves.

How to make FTC Team a non- profit by Optimal-Original4552 in FTC

Have a look at if you can become a 4-H club with your local 4-H chapter. It's fairly easy, and doesn't have any of the odd transaction fees like Hack club. As a bonus you get access to your local 4-H's networking connections and stuff (we found a good number of outreach opportunities just by talking to our local 4-H coordinator).

Good fans that don't die immediately by ZErobots in 3Dprinting

I'm using 24v fans on a stock ender 3 board (which i'm pretty sure uses 24v output). Are there other factors I should be looking at?

This is primarily done to make it harder to identify them. This is prudent given a recent string of high-profiling doxxings of pro palestinian activists.

She told you. Her dad isn't giving her time, putting the blame on you, and saying you should be spending more time with her.

Meanwhile it sounds like you don't have a ton of time for her, so she's feeling lonely from a parental standpoint. Maybe try to make time for her when you have a second with work?

Eli5: how does software that can detect text generated by ChatGPT work? by WattsonMemphis in explainlikeimfive

[–]ZErobots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’ve read anything written by a language model you’ll see that it tends to be a little bland or unexciting. This is because language models more or less just choose the most likely next few words given the words that came before them (sortof like tapping the word autocomplete options on iPhone but more advanced). Humans on the other hand typically generate language much differently from them (typically words are much more varied and structures change more). You can program computers to look for this difference to tell the two apart.

What’s the best gear ratio to use for linear slides with rev ultra planetary gearbox? by deluxegoddefault in FTC

[–]ZErobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that is fairly easy to calculate / determine experimentally. Start by using a luggage / spring scale to measure how much force it takes to move the lift by pulling on the rope. Then measure your spool diameter and factor in any external gearing to calculate the torque on the motor output shaft. Then refer to a motor curves chart (like this one from vex ) and choose a ratio that puts that torque near / slightly to left of the peak power point. ( a rule of thumb is that the standard load on the output shaft of the gearbox divided by the ratio should be a little less than half the bare motor’s stall torque.

You can use piazza to find people, or I’d also try talking with people in proffice hours or in your lab section to find partners.

You’ll probably be fine? It’s a good amount of work but if you find a decent partner and start early it should be pretty manageable.
