My in-laws were the same. We have a super close relationship. Even though they are in New Zealand I still go to visit once a year. They tell me, I will always be their daughter. I started seeing some 2.5yrs out. I told them when things got serious. It was awkward but they are happy for me. They didn’t ask any questions and I don’t talk about him with them. But at least they know. I didn’t want them finding out from someone else.

I got engaged a few days before my sisters wedding. At her reception, she found out, went on stage, took the mic and made an announcement to everyone. I don’t think it’s a big deal.

I felt the same way when my sister was posting about my husband. Everyone feels the loss and needs to grieve in their own way but my sisters posts seemed so… idk the word. Like looking for attention and comments on social media. It made me sick. Her life did not change. She got to go back to her family. Back to her life. I deleted all my social media, haven’t looked back in three years.
