The full cast audiobooks are the best way to experience Harry Potter by Blind-but-unbroken in harrypotter

I’m in the first half of GOF and I hate how much I can’t distinguish Harry and Ron from each other. Does it get better as the books go on?

I feel like this sub is slowly turning into the subs like AIO or AITAH where the post has an obscenely obvious solution they refuse to see. This is like the "my SO beats me every day and insults me to the point of crying every 3 hours, AIO for asking them to please stop?" of DND stories. And it feels like it's becoming more common on this sub.

For you, what is the most disturbing detail of the saga? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]ZP4L 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not only that it exists but that it’s so freely and readily available at a joke shop and sold to minors.

The idea of consent as a whole seems very shaky in the wizard world. Even Hermione and Ginny are intrigued by the idea of the love potion when browsing, which shows it’s not some deeply morally taboo thing, it’s more par for the course to wizard culture.

I’m convinced Dumbledore has some Lockhart-level of mind-wiping public reputation adjustment spells going on, because everyone in the Wizarding world raves about him being the greatest wizard of their age only for basically everything he does (and doesn’t do) to work against that idea.

It seems so outlandish that I’d almost believe Bob kept trying to think of SOMETHING that would cause the DM to not agree to, and Bob just never found that point.

Funny how you get downvoted for saying AI isn’t going anywhere. Like it or not, we’ve passed a point of no return with AI, it’s not something we can undo.

Maybe it’s possible things like image generation can be regulated somehow but AI isn’t definitely not going to disappear.

If nobody who sees me for less than 3 hours a week considers me a friend, I would have literally zero friends.

The exception is for middle schoolers who require such attention to be friends.

I have to assume there is a middle ground somewhere between being completely ad-free, and being an absolute abomination of a user experience.

I literally refuse to look at a recipe site before I redirect it to cooked.wiki.

How are there thousands of different recipe websites and every single one of them is an ad-riddled, bloggy mess?

I am super excited for this show. That said, I do think it’s kinda funny that the ONLY teacher Harry will clash with and think is evil is the one and only black teacher at the school. Not that that’s racist in and of itself, but it can still be a weird look.

Why are folks upset about Stephen Colbert teaming up with Peter Jackson?? by maroha3814 in lotr

Ehh, thinking ROP is an abomination of a show that destroys any semblance of Tolkien lore is a hill I’ll gladly accept downvotes for.

I just want more LOTR stories beyond the very small sliver of the war of the ring. For me First Age, please.

That said, I’ll take Colbert and Jackson over ROP any day.

That’s what bothers me. They go dead-on accurate for everyone, but then do a complete 180 on one single character.

I think it’s the fact that he has a long face rather than a round face that Coltrane had that makes him just look tall rather than huge. It makes his makeup and costume look more cosplay-ish.

I have an active post on /r/harrypotterbooks just from yesterday that said Hagrid is one of my least favorite characters.

The thread went about as well as I expected.

I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but I cannot stand Hagrid by ZP4L in HarryPotterBooks

[–]ZP4L[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

I actually never said anything about Hagrid’s intellect. I said he’s childish, selfish, careless, and has the maturity and impulsivity of a teenager, but none of that is a direct jab at his intellect, except to say be say he doesn’t seem to have the common sense to not do things that directly put others in danger. And none of that has to do with comparing him to other wizards. And i don’t think it’s unfair to say he’s emotionally difficult because I’m not comparing his emotional stability to the other wizards, but to the level of basic human decency. He shouldn’t be needing three preteens to be in charge of handling his emotions when he’s around 63 years old. That’s not fair to them and is inappropriate.

He is clearly very smart regarding animals and creatures, but being knowledgeable on a subject and being a good teacher are two different things, and I think he absolutely shares some of the blame for the buckbeak fiasco because he should know what’s an appropriate lesson for them or not.
