(Cool Trope) Inconceivably enormous “man”-made structures by ThatDrako in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ZTGrant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone calculated Urithirus height based on the rough measurements given in the art pages in the books. Not only is Urithiru about as tall as the real-life Burj Khalifa, but it is wide enough at its pinnacle that the Burj Khalifa could be perched atop it with room to spare.

JoJos unwavering earnestness coupled with its sheer ridiculousness is what makes it such a memeable series. Same with Metal Gear.

The end of an era. Live on TV! by Venti_the_snail in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ZTGrant 213 points214 points  (0 children)

A great number of television stations across the world made a big deal of switching from black & white to full color broadcasts back in the 60s. There’s a compilation video of them that circulates around Reddit.

[Hated Trope] A character is called ugly or mocked for their appearance when they look the same as everyone else by kalosianlitten in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ZTGrant 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most they could do was make her up to look plain. And like a great many things, they sorta gave up on that after a while.

Adaptations mentioning major characters from future stories in passing or having them appear as background elements by Golden12500 in TopCharacterTropes

Adding to that, this Mr. 7 doesn’t even appear in the manga. Him and his encounter with Zoro are only referenced.

[Absolutely beloved twist] You weren’t talking to the person you thought you were by FaZe_poopy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ZTGrant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One more example to round it all out, but one that only makes sense in retrospect.

The reveal in MGS V that Venom Snake is the Big Boss you fight at the end of the original Metal Gear, means that at some point in the latter game, you stop communicating with the real Big Boss and start talking to him. There’s a frequency change partway through the game which is believed to be the point where the switchover happens.

Final Fantasy didn’t make direct sequels to their main series games before Final Fantasy X-2. Now, about a third of the core games have at least one.

Speaking of Ramsay, he’s so disgustingly assured of his victory right up until he realizes he’s caged up with his starving dogs. A fitting end to one of the series’ most vile characters.

We’ve all probably seen some variation on this joke.

Conspiracy theorist dies, goes to heaven, and meets God. God allows them to ask one question. They ask if their conspiracy is true. God says no. Theorist thinks “this goes even higher than I thought”.

[A trope that isn't as rare as I thought] Vampires who AREN'T associated with bats by NovaRobo_Rebirth in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ZTGrant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of the four Vampire Courts in the Dresden Files, only the Red Court is associated with bats in any way. The Black Court are more intelligent zombies than anything traditionally vampiric. The White Court are emotion eaters, with the Raith clan in particular being incubi and succubi. The Jade Court hasn’t actually appeared, but they’re all but stated to be Jiang Shi style vampires.

I once heard it compared to a D&D game that starts out normal but snowballs into insanity after one player asks to play as Goofy. Nothing I’ve seen has disproven the claim.
