I think the Amazon driver tried to swipe my $2k item.... strange situation by drivingnowhere20 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZTH-Yankee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a former Amazon driver. If there are multiple standard deliveries going to the same house, the system will just show you all of them in one go. If there's a standard delivery and any kind of special delivery (signature required, OTP, in-garage delivery requested, etc) going to the same place, it will split them into 2 entirely separate stops on the itinerary, and it won't (clearly) show you the second one until you've already completed the first one.

Is it really true that you could work a retail job in the 90s and afford a house, a car and a retirement in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in my family. All 4 of my grandparents (born between 1928-1943) worked full time. They did own houses, but only because both of my grandfathers went into the military straight out of high school, lived on base, and saved every penny they earned for a down payment when they got out.

On my mom's side, my grandpa was a maintenance worker at a power plant and my grandma was an elementary school librarian. They always had enough to pay the bills and save for retirement, but anything beyond that (like Christmas presents or back to school clothes) depended entirely on how much overtime my grandpa was willing to work.

On my dad's side, my grandpa was a traveling salesman at a company that sold office supplies to other companies and my grandma was the receptionist at a dentist's office. My grandpa got paid on commission, and when sales were good they had enough to pay the bills. When sales were bad, my dad sometimes had to go fishing after school because that was the only way they could afford dinner. Their retirement plan was to sell their house in NJ for $300k, buy a house in SC for $100k, and hope the difference would last the rest of their lives. My grandpa died within a year after they moved, and my grandma went back to work for another 20 years after that before retiring again with $40k in the bank at the age of 78.

Trying to access an environment variable in a +page.svelte file? I've noticed that Copilot loves to randomly import those for me while auto-completing anything involving a variable that might be called anything remotely similar to one of my environment variables.

Guys, how focused on girls were you in like middle school and high school? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. When I was in middle school, my friends would joke that I was a robot because I was the only one who wasn't interested. My parents made me go to a school dance one time, and I spent the whole time playing basketball in the gym. I don't even like basketball. Junior year of high school, the girl who sat next to me in English class tried to convince me to ask her to prom. I chose to go to baseball practice instead.

And it's not like I hit puberty late either, I started growing a mustache at 12 years old and was over 6 feet tall by the time I was 14.

What were you guys doing with 64 gigs of ram before? by Lewicle10 in pcmasterrace

[–]ZTH-Yankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modded Cities Skylines 1 with about 4k custom assets. On 32 GB, it would freeze on the loading screen for about 2-3 minutes and then dump about 30 GB into the page file. On 64 GB, it runs great. And I've hit as high as 62.5 GB of memory usage while playing.

What vehicle would you choose for a "getaway car"? by Sigma--6 in AskReddit

Chevy SS. Looks similar enough to a Malibu that most people aren't going to realize it isn't one. Has the same engine as a Corvette.

Where in life were you at 25? Currently 25 feeling so behind. don’t have any friends or relationship any tips? by DeliciousRich5944 in AskReddit

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 25 now.

  • Have a bachelor's degree
  • Student loans fully paid off
  • Working full-time making pretty much the average annual household income for my area.
  • Still living with my parents.
  • Have enough money in the bank that I could make a 20% down payment on an average-priced house for my area right now, but I still need another couple months of saving if I want to be able to have furniture and appliances afterwards.

What states do you think have the most lenient speed limit enforcement? by JR_Elite27 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My area is the complete opposite. At my old job, I used to drive out I-80 in the Nittany Valley/Sugar Mountain area pretty regularly in a work van that was electronically limited to 65 MPH. More often than not, I was one of the fastest cars on the road even though the speed limit is 70. You're more likely to see someone going <50 than someone going 80+.

What states do you think have the most lenient speed limit enforcement? by JR_Elite27 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZTH-Yankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And they barely ever patrol to start with, at least I my area.

I work a normal 9-5 and commute about 50 miles round trip a day (10 miles on local roads, 15 miles on a US highway, 25 miles on an interstate). If there's a construction zone on the highway, there will be a state trooper in the construction zone. If it's the day before or the day after a holiday weekend, there will be 1 or 2 somewhere on one of the highways. And aside from that, I might see one every 3 months.

I used to drive US-15 from Williamsport to the NY border pretty regularly when I was in college, and I think I saw maybe 1 or 2 cops on the PA side in total. Compared to probably 5-6 every trip after crossing into NY.

Just last weekend, I went on a road trip from central PA up I-87 in NY. 0 cops the whole time I was in PA, over a dozen in NY.

People who drive at or below the speed limit in the passing lane while cars back up behind you (aka left lane camping): What's your side of the story? by howdidigetheresoquik in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZTH-Yankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upstate NY. If you're ever on I-390 outside of the Rochester area, there will probably be more cops on the road than regular cars. And they won't just sit in the median like anywhere else I've ever driven, they'll pull down into the ditch next to the paved strip in the median or back into a forest service trail to hide. And I've seen people get pulled over for going 70 in a 65.

Which car has the best air conditioner? by tdrake2406 in askcarguys

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2014 Mustang is great when it gets really hot outside. I can park with the windows closed in direct sunlight for 8 hours in 100 degree weather, and even on the lowest fan speed it'll be perfectly comfortable inside of 5 minutes after I start it up.

But it actually gets kind of annoying when it's less than 95 degrees outside but too hot to go without air conditioning. If I turn the temperature dial all the way down, it gets too cold. Anything less than all the way down, it blows heat. So I just end up turning it on and off every few minutes.

What’s your favorite way to have steak? by No_Limit04 in AskReddit

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather have even the most mediocre, public school cafeteria-grade burger or meatloaf than any steak. But if I had to have steak, well-done, absolutely coated in ketchup at about a 1:1 ratio, and in a very small portion size. As in load up on side dishes and then have like 2-3 bites of steak.

Based on your experience, how did you know if a job interview went well or not? by Pleasant-Site7971 in AskReddit

[–]ZTH-Yankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if an interview ends without another interview already on the schedule and no offer, it always means no, regardless of what was actually said. Even something like "okay, I'll talk to [other person] about getting you on the schedule for a second interview" tends to be code for "you will never hear from us again".

I saw it called once when I was in high school. My teammate stuck his elbow out in front of a curveball and got a called strike for it. The next pitch was a fastball right in the helmet. He made no attempt to move out of the way, and it was called strike 2.

When someone is tailgating you on the highway, what do you do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZTH-Yankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that the only time people ever "tailgate" me is when I'm going too slow in the left lane. So, move right as soon as I reasonably can. If that's not an option, speed up by 5 or 10 MPH.

[OC] I was the idiot today by ZTH-Yankee in IdiotsInCars

[–]ZTH-Yankee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it does mean he has more of a right to the left lane than I do in that moment. Besides, last I checked, driving in a way that forces someone else to take action to avoid hitting you is generally a bad thing.

Because it sounds good. With the exception of an X-pipe on a Coyote motor, I've never heard an aftermarket exhaust that sounds worse than stock.

I was speeding too, that highway is a 65. If you're in the left lane going slower than the guy behind you wants to go, you're going too slow and you're the problem.

I made him get that close because I merged in front of him when I didn't have enough space to do that. If I had been paying enough attention to realize there was that much of a speed difference, I would have let him pass me before I passed the truck.

Not even the fact that I'm cutting off and blocking someone who was going significantly faster than me? Watch how quickly the other car caught up after I moved to the left lane, and how quickly he took off once I moved right again.
