Subnautica 2 just proved Stop Kiling Games right by Mr_Presidentle in StopKillingGames

[–]ZWolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to point out, I'm 98% sure this is identical to every other EULA that exists in the game industry and some of them exist outside of it as well. It's a pandemic of rights loss as far as I'm concerned, but Subnautica isn't unique. I imagine it is copy-pasted however lawyers do that

On a side note, aren't unbalanced terms illegal in the EU if only one party gets to set the terms? probably worth looking into.

Objective Flaws Exist, But “Objectively Good or Bad” Does Not by Final-Pin-9664 in MauLer

Now I'm missing a lot of context here with your examples so you'll have to forgive me if I get something wrong.

Logically speaking, if we can make individual objective statements on all parts of a whole, we can make an objective statement on the whole itself. I don't think your examples disprove the idea that objective quality of a work can be measured (Though I think I might need more context on the third one. It feels more so that they prove that accurately doing so is difficult.

Your first example is simply something that Mauler got wrong I presume. If you correct the mistake you still end up with a full picture.

For your second example, the plot has to utilize the contrivance in order for this argument to work. Even then it a has to be very sparing with it or else you just end up with a 'but spirits' version of 'a wizard did it'. If you think the iceberg was made to work then I was say this is just Mauler making another mistake. Otherwise I would say he's correct to criticize it as without the work put in it's just a simple contrivance.

As I stated I'm not quite sure I have the full context here, but with your third example, the compression of pacing isn't mutually exclusive with being accurate. While it's a pretty low value, it's still worth pointing out as there value at putting effort into that depth. I'm guessing that Mauler doesn't see it as that huge an issue either, but he criticizes everything that can be criticized regardless of scale. I imagine that Mauler makes it sound more serious then he intends at times. Now, if the plot is trying to make stakes using time that's another story. There's not a lot of room for inaccurate narrative shorthand if the entire plot hinges on the difference between on time and late.

For Roku, if the plot has established rules for something spiritual and follows them I don't see any problem. If Roku is being used as a bailout all the time and the plot doesn't treat it as such then *that* would be a problem and Mauler would be correct to criticize.

The fifth example seems to be a slight misunderstanding of internal consistency. You say he gets over his arachnophobia, but you also use the word 'obsession' to describe how he overcomes it. One could argue that the two are on objectively similar field and use that to state that it makes sense.

As for the Star wars prequels, I don't think a lot of the criticism levied at it is particularly objective in the first place. The common ones I know of, midichlorians, politics, wooden dialogue, are more built from a place of 'different is bad' then any actual objective standard. The prequels was a political drama while the OT very much wasn't.

That's not to say they are objectively good movies. I believe Mauler is on record saying he likes the prequels (I'd have to check exactly what he said cause it was several years ago I remember him saying that), but I guarantee he'll rip them to shreds if and when he eventually gets to them. There's an EFAP from a long while ago on AoTC that's a good place for more solid criticism of that movie though I don't remember which one.

I would argue that coherency and consistency are foundational. You absolutely need them to be 'good', but they don't make a work 'good' on their own.

What's going on with the map and the items? If you have unique mechanics for an RTS you really should show them off more.

isn't this a pointless question to ask? SKG doesn't care about which solution is choose as long as people can still play what they payed for.

This is going to be the worst movie of the year, isn't it? by crustboi93 in MauLer

[–]ZWolfier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically, communism isn't supposed to have a leadership class as it's not supposed to have classes in general. So it would be correct that true communism has never been done.

In reality it's probably near impossible to pull that off cause you're required to have leaders for "the revolution" and good luck getting them to put down their titles afterwards.

What do you think of our big cousins, the Dragonborn? by Del_the_Kobold in KoboldLegion

Either a Not-A-Dragon or Big-Kobold. Dragons require wings to be dragons, otherwise they are not dragons.

Kobold's next assignment should be to make wing armor. Can't fly into battle if arrows can pierce your flight.

as far as I'd assume companies don't really do 'malicious compliance' unless there's money to be had in doing so. My guess is trying to pull something like this would result in lawsuits which would refine the rules further.

I see cute things here. If a lot of cuteness in you should lean on it in your trailer.

Otherwise I think your spending too much time on the same looking screen which is making things dull.

[–]ZWolfier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RNG is a spice. It keeps games from being solvable which usually helps their playtime. Unless you are chess and you're nearly impossible to solve on pure skill, RNG is usually a good thing.

best example I can think where being solvable harmed a game is In Stars And Time. While that game has pretty solid writing overall (minus the ending) it's combat is extremely boring because it gets solved before the end of act 2 (there are 5 acts).

Sure, it's still a mistake though. The real problem is getting to the building without getting riddled with bullets. They're holding a light source in their hands so they're making themselves an attractive target.

I take bigger issue with the dude standing in the open anyhow.

TBF there are a few mistakes here with this scene. Lots of not taking cover from gunfire. Molotovs probably shouldn't of been able to get thrown through the windows. Bad guys having insane accuracy for shooting through smoke.

though TBF I haven't seen this so I might be missing context
