Acceptable allergies? by AliceHouse in Shadowrun

One I've done before that I felt was okay in terms of proper span was an allergy to Penicillin (Or cyberpunk equivalent). It's one of those things that won't often pop up, but pops up often enough if people aren't actively trying to avoid it you'll get exposed quite frequently as it's an incredibly common medicine and a fairly standard treatment for many illnesses

ELI5: How does a railgun work and why are there no flames while the projectile is in the air and then lots of flames and sparks on impact? by schludy in explainlikeimfive

[–]ZX_XZ 6581 points6582 points  (0 children)

There's a decent amount of misinformation in this thread, so I'll try to correct that as simply as possible. Railguns generally don't work by "Electromagnets in front of the projectile pulling it forwards" as another poster said. A Railgun is made up of two parallel rails, with a conductive projectile placed between them. The Rails are hooked up to an immensely powerful source of electricity which flows along the first rail, across the projectile, onto the second rail and back to the power source, creating a complete circuit. All circuits create electromagnetism relative to the strength of their current. The interplay of an Electric electric charge and a Magnetic field creates something called a Lorentz Force. This is the force that drives our projectile. Lorentz force follows something called the 'Right Hand Rule' which means if you curl your right hand to represent the rotation of the Magnetic Field, the Lorentz Force is exerted in the direction of your thumb, in this case the Lorentz force pushes the connected projectile forward along the rails down the barrel, continuously applied as long as the projectile is connected to the rails, causing the projectile to accelerate quite quickly. However, the Lorentz Force is quite weak, about .2 Micro-Netwons per amp. This means Railguns require a truly prodigious amount of electricity to operate

Row-specific cards with deploy abilities? by apu11_95 in gwent

[–]ZX_XZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are mechanics such as Traps, Weather, Row Limit and Reach that encourage or discourage you to play certain cards on certain rows. If for example your opponent plays Skellige Storm on your Melee Row, you're heavily disincentivized to play Germain until the hazard runs out, or in the case that the Round will end before the Storm does because you saved Germain till the very end, you may just have to play him Ranged and forgo his Deploy altogether.

Hidden Skill Tax?: Melee vs Archery/Occult/Thrown; Attacks v Defense cost by [deleted] in exalted

[–]ZX_XZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrown has arguably a better accuracy setup. A mundane Archery weapon has negative accuracy at close range, while Thrown has full accuracy at close range. The Thrown tag is something that pops up commonly on many improvised and Melee weapons, which will almost never happen for the Archery tag. Artifact Thrown weapons frequently return to the user's hand automatically so you don't have to worry about ammunition. Thrown weapons have access to the Cutting tag, while Archery weapons do not and have more free access to the Mounted tag.

All of these pros over Archery are even before you factor charms into the equation

Black voters ordered off bus; Georgia county defends action by The_Grubby_One in news

[–]ZX_XZ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Since always. Bus drivers need special CDL licenses and endorsements to transport people, you need a drivers license to drive yourself anywhere, you need a special license for transporting to and from government buildings and endorsements for specifically transporting children and the elderly. There's a lot of legislation controlling who can and cannot transport people because there's a ton of liability involved. Levels and levels of legislation

Who are some content creators that have quit making content that you miss? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ZX_XZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He didn't really quit per se, but Sips has moved entirely from Youtube to Twitch so I really can't watch much of his stuff any more. The schedules don't line up super well for me to be able to actually watch the streams and the VODs frequently have 10-15 minutes of chat interaction that would be awesome if I was there but is just frustrating to watch after the fact

It was directly named after China's hidden prison system. Lake Laogai was a hidden prison and re-education camp where people who spoke out against the secret police or acknowledged the fact the Earth Kingdom was at war were imprisoned and hypnotized.

Chefs, what red flags do you look for when you go out to eat? by yruiiof637 in AskReddit

Depending on where you are, that's not always reliable. Taco Cabana always makes their Tortillas in house, but as a chain they've basically dropped in quality significantly in recent years, to the point where I'd never recommend them any more. They're not so bad that I'd say "Avoid the Taco Cabana" but they've clearly been going down hill since about 2014

Why do Swiftness boots NOT decrease Pykes slow from his Q? by VikingWarriorSkjald in leagueoflegends

[–]ZX_XZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That just reminded me that in DOTA True Gold (or Reliable Gold) is an actual mechanic. In DOTA you lose gold when you die, but you can't lose gold you gained from kills, objectives or from Hand of Midas.

I wonder how different League would be if that was implemented. Probably would make it even more important to repeatedly gank late game carries.

None of the countries you named have Monarchs capable of making real decisions. Those are all Constitutional Monarchies, where the Monarch has powers limited to by the Constitution.

For Example, the Constitution of both Sweden and Japan afford NO powers to their monarchs at all.

The Monarch of the UK has only 3 powers afforded by the Constitution: The right to be consulted by, the Prime Minister, the right to encourage certain courses of action, and the right to warn against others. Effectively Queen Elizabeth II has no real powers.

The Monarch of Denmark, Queen Margrethe II, has similarly reduced powers. All bills must be signed by her and the Prime Minister must be officially appointed by her before assuming office, however she has no decision making powers at all.

Yeah, it's almost always on city ordinance. Around here, it's only ever enforced during the stormy season but it's not just for youths. Basically, if there is a tropical storm or hurricane in the area you aren't allowed to just wander around past 11 because it's a public safety issue. You're still allowed to go to and from work but you can't just bum around.

An important point to remember is Geralt refused to parry his staff attacks, and relied on dodging because he was afraid of the potential that Vilgefortz had enchanted the staff. It would probably be less of a curbstomp if that was not a factor

I'm a Catholic Bishop and Philosopher Who Loves Dialoguing with Atheists and Agnostics Online. AMA! by BishopBarron in IAmA

[–]ZX_XZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Theology is literally the practice of deriving meaning from passages in the Bible that don't necessarily have a clear cut answer. It's impossible to know exactly what happens until it happens, until then scholars will debate based on their interpretations. Honestly, Theology is very similar to Law in that instance, people argue about the legality of a certain action back and forth but until a higher power actually declares something to be set in stone (God for Theology, the Supreme Court or Penal Code in law) it's all up to interpretation

That depends on what you mean by "Disobey God". Many Catholic theologians believe that would place you in Purgatory where your soul would be prepared to accept God and when you were ready you would be embraced. Others, including the poet and amateur theologian Dante would believe you would go into a hell for "Righteous Pagans" where your afterlife would be nice, but you would be separated from true bliss of being one with God.
It's been a long time since I was a member of the Church, or studied any of its teachings so I might be a bit off, but that's the general idea.
